A hidden gem if you're looking for a hearty sandwich at lunchtime. If I worked nearby I would definitely be a regular here. So I'll start by saying that I don't usually search for a sandwich place for lunch. You see, I'm kinda picky about the filling to bread ratio. It's the places that have too much bread and not enough filling that turn me off. Here though, they get it right and it exceeded my expectations in terms of taste and their sandwich ratio formula. 5 stars - Veggie Mama Sandwich. Eggplant, parmesan cheese, red onion, lettuce, tomato, pepper jack cheese, avocado, and sliced banana peppers. Hands down. The best sandwich I've had as a vegetarian! The sandwich is served toasty and warm. The star of the show is the eggplant. You see, it's thinly sliced and fried crisp like you would find in a good eggplant parmesan. All of the other ingredients fit with each other so well and you get a lot of sandwich for the price. For the bread choice, go with the dutch crunch roll. You just have to!When it's this good, I already know it's the kinda place that I'll be comparing all future sandwich places to. I'll be back for another bite. Or two. Or three.

i was so hungry after my physical therapy session across the street at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, i went straight to the liquor store near my car. i got so lucky that these guys subleased the sandwich shop to Miss Tomato Sandwich Shop. i ordered one of the specialty sandwiches - the Flying Dutchman on a (what else) dutch crunch roll.it was a hot panini style grilled sandwich with roast beef, pepper jack cheese, pastrami, pepperoni, turkey, ham, bacon lettuce, tomato, and jalapeno peppers!man! did this hit the spot!and did i mention the secret sauce???slightly sweet and tasty savory.especially after i just saw the Giants eliminate the Reds in the NLDS!so delicious and it only cost - $5.99i am a FAN!

Well, there's no shortage of delis and sandwich shops in The City, that's for sure. This spot is hard to completely define for me, because I have a little bit of a mixed feeling. One the one hand, the sandwiches can be really good. On the other hand, their availability is not entirely consistent and every so often they are missing some key ingredients. This spot is located inside of Nob Hill Liquor and really doesn't seem to be a separate and distinct business. When I go get a sandwich and other items from the store (...beer), there are not separate charges. I can't tell you with any certainty when they are officially open. I can tell you that the hours don't mirror Nob hill Liquors', and it really all depends on who's working. Mostly, there is a woman who is the main Miss Tomato - sometimes the guys from the liquor store will make your sandwich. Mid-day is the best time as far as hitting goes in the game of hit-or-miss.Bottom-line, they have some really good sandwiches here. And, the majority of the time, they have Dutch Crunch - which if you're not familiar is delicious. (Seems to be a SF thing, I don't remember seeing it elsewhere) They have about 15 to 20 different sandwiches, and they cover a good range. My favorites include Pork Me Caesar (Ham, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Caesar Dressing) and The Fogbuster (Turkey, Provolone, Spinach, Garlic Sauce Tomato). You'll find two things a little different here. First, they press-toast the bread individually before adding ingredients, and this leads to a nice crispness. Two, they microwave the meat and cheese together to ensure these are warm and melty. It works pretty well. The sandwiches are both tasty and filling, and they are only $6, which is a good deal. This location also has a full deli - so you can get different deli sides if you like. But, be aware of a couple of things... One, they might not have everything, and the non-Dutch Crunch bread is nowhere near as good. Two, if you say "everything on it" you get mustard, pickles and hot-peppers, which makes no sense on a number of the sandwiches. And three (and I hate to be the bearer of bad news), these sandwiches are almost certainly high cal/high fat. They drip with sauce and flavor, and I feel confident that their nutrition information matches.Overall, give it a try. It may be a matter of taste, but I think they're pretty good.

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews for this place. I've tried a couple of their sandwiches and they were all really good but I always come back for the same one. I get the Spicy Mama. It's a spicy pesto chicken sandwich. The prices are decent considering how big the sandwich is. It's about $7 or $8 depending if you pay with cash or card and the sandwich will last me lunch and dinner. It's located inside a liquor store on the corner of Hyde and Pine. You won't really notice it unless you read all the signs on the window.

Excellent hostess. This tomato lover during a recent visit to New York: http://instagram.com/p/rNYrK3A7o7/This Miss Tomato during a recent visit to the Tenderloin: An incredible turkey, caramelized onion, lettuce, tomato and homemade BBQ sauce on a wheat roll.Very friendly lady gave me the $4 for 5" special despite being after 3pm. Roast beef, ranch and bacon come standard for an even better deal.Chips and soda or water is included. As is so much flavor it quickly became one of my favorite sandwiches in the city.Thinking it wouldn't be enough for lunch (wrong assumption) also picked up a tasty $3 cup of lowfat vanilla yogurt, granola and strawberries (right decision). Both hostesses are ripe for a five star compliment.

Terrific sandwiches, tastier than most, and very reasonably priced! This place is a little gem, and they make it easy to order in advance and pick up when I'm in a hurry. Plus, they bake their own bread.

The sandwiches are not bad however they make them inconsistently and have become rude. Sometimes they refuse to make them. Their responses - 'no one is here to make sandwiches' or 'we don't make them after 5 pm'. Even being somewhat dismissive in their responses. I have had sandwiches there as late as 10 pm and have been coming there for a long time. Lately they have become unreliable and dismissive. Perhaps new employees or new management. I work nearby so this place was convenient. Unfortunately now I will take my business elsewhere.
