When Minnie Bell's Soul Movement made the SF Chronicle's list of top 20 places to dine it it became a contender for the annual birthday celebration dinner. It sounded like great, no-nonsense soul food and I liked everything about what I read. Then I went there and liked it even more. This was such a satisfying, well-priced, 4-person dinner experience that I left remarking on the fact that I couldn't wait to return. Admittedly, one shouldn't eat like this often but also, one's life would probably be a whole lot more fun if one did. And here's what I mean way I say "eat like this":* 4 of us shared a 10-piece order of fried chicken which comes with your choice of chicken pieces. They were all excellent and the 3 pieces that made their way home with me remained excellent days later.* The 10-piece order comes with your choice of 2 large sides which were also ample and delicious. Mac & Cheese and Candied Sweet Potatoes were rich and emotionally satisfying. Again, there was plenty remaining for another day. Lucky me. * Cornbread, hot honey, and mumbo sauce (not necessary) rounded things out as did a bottle of Zin which, admittedly isn't the first thing one thinks to pair with this type of food. I loved it all. To all of this we added (and shared) a special of Braised Oxtails and finished with a shared Banana Pudding. As good as those were though, I'd be lying if I said I remember them. For me it was all about the chicken, the sides, the comfy booth the 4 of us shared, and the leftovers I got to consume days later. Minnie Bell's is a place I can't wait to return to.

Excellent lunch Special today for $15 - 2 pieces fried chicken with cornbread and fries.Chicken thigh and breast are deliciously hot and juicy! The seasoned fries are crisp and a generous serving. The sweet cornbread is perfection - full bodied with its rustic style. We added a side of the braised collard greens to pour over the cornbread and drank the pot likker remaining.- shared by two seniors, this is a value to be appreciated in the community.Thank you, Minnie Bell's ... we'll return. This is good eats!

YUMMA I had a craving for fried chicken and wanted to try out a new spot in the city. Saw on Yelp that this place was really loved so I gave it a shot!!First off, even though there's not that many reviews, it was always pretty busy! The service was really excellent and welcoming. Food wise, my group of three split the 8 piece chicken which came with cornbread and two large sides (yes we had leftovers). The chicken was so crispy and I could taste the rosemary seasoning in the chicken itself! Not too dry either! For sides, we got the Mac and cheese and candied yams. LOVED the Mac and cheese (and I feel pretty picky about my Mac's) but the candied yams were a tad too sweet for my personal taste. The cornbread was unlike any cornbread I've ever had, and was delicious!

I finally made it for lunch and indeed they have a lunch special. $15 for 2 pieces plus cornbread and fries. No substitutes. My friend said the cornbread was old like a day old. I thought it was fluffy enough. Friend said the best is the crunchy fries which was a big portion and you can still see the skin on it. We both picked 2 thighs. It was crunchy. Friend thought no taste but I tasted rosemary and saw the juice. To each their own. After we ate everything I was very satisfied. Order at the bar pay get a number and sit and wait. The guy at the bar just yells out, for ordering at the bar. Save your voice and put a sign up. Maybe at night they have more staff to do table ordering. There's wine and beers. There's 3 comfortable booths. There's a pretty picture of what Fillmore looks like in the olden days. Very cool..staff was friendly.

Saw Minnie's had opened recently and I have been dying to stop by. The place is small with limited seating with no wait on a weekday night. The chicken is cheerfully aromatic and soft while their mac is rich in flavor with a nice crispy top. Although I didn't partake they have a fun selection of cocktails also! Recommending this spot to all my friends!

Ordered the 4 pieces, 2 small sides, and cornbread ($35). Can be split between 2 people and I had some doubts that it wouldn't be filling because of the size of the chickens but it did manage to fill me. Parking: It's free after a certain time at night so it was a breeze to park at curbsideService: They were friendly and felt welcoming Ambiance: It had the vibes of an old-school diner: a bunch of booths, cozy tables, a bar, and TVs playing sports channels. Chicken (8/10): The chicken was good by itself. It had a good crisp, moist, flavor. The portion sizes of each piece are smaller than I am used to. Candied yam (8.5/10): These are yummy, soft, and hints of cinnamon. Complimented well with the mealMac' n Cheese (9/10): This is one of the best mac' n cheese I have had in a restaurant. I am not usually impressed by many restaurants, but this one surprised me. Cornbread (7/10): It tasted very standard, nothing too particularly special about it. It was soft. Overall, good vibes. It is kinda expensive so I wouldn't frequent here but I wouldn't mind coming down here again.

Are you a breast, legs, or butt person?Team [thiccc] Legs here. Cuz if you're going to indulge in fried chicken, you might as well stick with a more forgiving cut. Some have proclaimed Minnie Bell's Soul Movement as having the best fried chicken in the city so I'm glad I finally visited. In April 2024, Minnie Bell's Soul Movement's first brick and mortar opened in The Moe (owner's hometown neighborhood). They started as a catering business turned food truck, then a food stall in Emeryville before opening in the city. Takeout, delivery, and indoor dining available. No outdoor seating. I'm happy they launched lunch service last month so I was able to pop in before a nearby appointment.M E N USoul food; fried chicken is their specialty. $15 Lunch Special (11 am - 2 pm): 2 pc Fried Chicken w/ fries + cornbread (no subs)Beer, wine, and low abv cocktails available.Counter service - order at the bar, pay, and seat yourself. Self-serve water.F O O D(Depending on the side you order, it may be cheaper to order a la carte. This was the case for the collard greens.)* Fried Chicken ($4.50 per piece) // 4 Stars: https://tinyurl.com/2s33zbrnPerfectly golden brown and crunchy with a light flaky crumb. Loved the distinctive earthy and piney flavor from the rosemary and sage. Not salty or greasy. The pieces are small so you'll probably need 2+ per person if you're not going hard on carbs. The thigh + drumstick were tender but not moist and juicy. No drippy or squirting action. The small breast (less than 1/2 of a halve) was too dry and oddly, didn't have the same earthy + piney flavor as the dark meat pieces.* Collard Greens (Small-$6.25) // 3.5 StarsWhile plain (vegetarian), the greens' fresh bitterness helped balance the richness of the fried chicken. I like that the stems still had a bite to them.* Brown Butter Cornbread ($4) // 3.75 StarsI enjoyed the nutty caramel notes from the brown butter but the cornbread was on the dry, crumbly side. They do have a side of hot honey butter but I didn't want to pay $3.50 for it so that's on me.* Hot Honey ($3) // 2 StarsDisappointing that it's just honey with chili flakes which didn't infuse much of any heat. Good thing there's Crystal hot sauce on every table.S E R V I C EFriendly staff. Food was ready in less than 5 minutes!A M B I A N C ELow key diner vibes with vintage murals and several TVs for watching the game. It's a small space with four 4-tops, four booths, one communal table, and bar seating. P A R K I N GMetered parking can be challenging. Nearest garage is steps away at The Fillmore Center ($3/hour). Overall, I really enjoyed the flavor of Minnie Bell's fried chicken, tho the cookery could improve to retain its moisture (off day?). I appreciate the speedy service so would def return for lunch when in The Moe. Hoping for juicy legs next time!

Pricey but worth it! The chicken pieces aren't huge, but the quality is excellent. Crispy crust, tender meat, and well-seasoned. The restaurant is modern and clean.

Minnie Belle's is a comfortable no frills neighborhood haunt with the best soul food in San Francisco. Period. They have taken care to include "no meat" collard greens- I guess to be "inclusive". Very good. Everything is very good! I like to watch groups come to dine and the moment the food arrives, all conversation pauses for an extended time. Priceless lolPs- All the staff are absolute gems!INSTANT CLASSIC
