Our second time dining at Mel's Diner on Lombard in two months, the food is usually good: American diner comfort food and perfect for my always-hungry swimmer son. He's grown up dining at Mel's!He consistently orders the super thick milkshake and is partial to their special, "themed" shakes (Lana Del Ray and The Penguin). Themed shakes tend not to come with the half-filled metal canister that pours out an extra half shake - decide accordingly. Last night it was a 1/2 pound MelBurger with fries ($22.50 includes $3 surcharge, worth it). I ordered the turkey pesto melt on sourdough toast, every bite delicious ($20.25). I did send back the plate for hot French fries (I order "nuclear hot" though first pass they were barely warm). A minute later, my plate was perfect and they did it with a smile.Mel's tends to get swamped with third party orders but last night, they stayed on top of diners inside the restaurant.Consistently good food and they meet a high standard: If you're hungry, Mel's Diner is always a good choice.

Always fun to come here while in this part of SF. Place is clean, music rocking on a Sat night. I had the Route 66 burger piled high with fried shoestring onion rings, lettuce, tomato, thousand island sauce, cheese, on a thick sesame seed bun. On the side is a mountain of fries. Also ordered a delicious meatloaf with a roll, mashed potato and gravy accompanied by vegetables on the side. Everyone carries around a computer so orders are quick.

Enjoy a nostalgic meal at Mel's Diner! The portions are large. The food is tasty. Travel back to the 50's with good oldies music and a milkshake. It was busy both nights and our service was great.

Small portions and very expensive. Food was served cold. Potatoes were under cooked, steamed and had no flavor. Pancakes were thin and rubbery. Bananas on French toast flavorless and mushy.

I placed a phone order which was simple, the food was done in about 15 minutes. We had patty melts that were really good. The rye bread that they use is really good.

Their food is good but they are pricy. I have eaten here more than once but honestly, I always regret it afterwards just because I feel like I spent too much on something I could have spent less money on. I still enjoyed my chicken and fries because I was craving it after a night drinking with my friends (lol). The servers were nice; I accidentally dropped my leftovers, but they were so kinda about it. I felt really bad, but I appreciated the servers for being so kind! Would I come back? Maybe for a milkshake, but will always be hesitant to actually eat here.

Bro this place slaps. Me and the boys had a sailing regatta and we were staying at the hotel across the street from Mel's diner so yk we gotta hit it up. Let me just say it was da bomb. To start off we got the penguin shake it was good but I wish I would have got the butterscotch shake instead, I was thinking about it but I figured I'd get one of there famous ones. I got the Route-66 burger and woooo weeee it was superb I wanted to go at that 1000 island sauce with a spoon. Big ole servings tho so tread lightly. I got the sweet potato fries bc we had some reg as an appy they were radical. Lastly shout out my boy Tee he is a man of few words but with a sailing team of 13 we were quite an undertaking. He got everyone what they wanted in a timely manner so shout the man. Whoop whoop this shii got me hype!!

Listing that your business is open until midnight then turning away diners after a bowl of chicken soup at 11:35pm, who rushed there and are on time, is incredibly dishonest and dishonorable. The guy that did this whined "you'll be here fourty five miiiiiiinutes", as he turned us away seeking chicken soup after a drive all the way from San Jose. Likely around 90 minutes long, to get this favorite chicken soup. And did I mention, arriving 25 minutes before the listed closing time.I was starving last night. Two people's night ruined by these lies.If you close at 1130, list 1130. Well, that place used to be good.
