If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, this isn't it--but the entrees are fresh, good quality, and well-seasoned. I think some of the flavors threw me off from what I expected. The atmosphere is casual, cute, and clean, but the biggest downside is the seating. With only a handful of tables, you're either stuck waiting or fighting with others for an open seat. Hot and Sour Soup: 0/5Beef and Broccoli: 4/5Jasmine Tea Soda: 5/5Sweet and Sour Chicken: 3.5/5

Had this spot bookmarked for a while and finally gave it a try! We came on Monday at 5:30pm not knowing they host Mahjong Mondays (starting at 6). We sat at the only table available (one of the medium sized ones) after ordering and getting a number. The restaurant itself is pretty cute, very unique in terms of layout. I personally love the color choices and design of the place. There's a water station and you can also grab your own extra bowls and stuff as well. We ordered a tingly spicy chicken sandwich and tomato garlic chow mein. It took about 10 minutes to come out and the noodles took another 10 minutes. Chicken sandwich tasted great, definitely had the spice I was hoping for, however it was on the smaller side (almost slider size) and I thought it was a bit overpriced. Noodles were a decent portion and in my opinion had the perfect amount of sauce. My friend thought the tomato flavor was overpowering and likened it to spaghetti and meatballs but I didn't get that taste at all. Both of us agreed that we might come back for the chicken sandwich but would pass on the noodles next time around.Towards the end, we finished our food and were cleaning up to leave. There were some people crowding our table and already putting their stuff down before we were even done grabbing our jackets and bags. Totally understand they wanted to secure our table for mahjong, but it felt just a bit rude.

Always heard about this place but never was able to go, until now! Wow I would definitely go back! Service here was great and friendly! Loved all the colors in the decor, bowls and cups. Food was great here. Husband always gets the sweet and sour friend chicken plate, I decided to get the beef and broccoli plate and the lotus salad was so yummy! Everything was delicious and felt healthier and fresh! Really loved my bowl and chopsticks to add a pop of color as I ate. I also highly recommend the chrysanthemum blood orange tea, it was so light and refreshing! Never had grass jelly until I got this drink, which doesn't taste like much. My kids got the chicken kids meal which was perfect and reasonably priced. I would come here again!

Love their spicy fried chicken sandwich and the combo meal combining that with hot and sour soup. This more casual outpost from Mr. Jiu's award-winning chef and SF native Brandon Jew is great for families and more everyday-meals. The chicken sandwich is juicy and served on great pineapple bread. It's unique and tasty. The hot and sour soup and mapo tofu dishes are solid, but I'd come here mainly for their chicken sandwich. Inside is bright and airy. They also partner with other local businesses--loved their Jewsian red bean black sesame babka they made and sold with Loquat in Hayes Valley.

3.5 stars. Mamahuhu is a modern Chinese-American restaurant with strong flavors! I thought the dishes were small portions and overpriced.FOOD [3.5/5]=========+ Tingly Spicy Chicken Sandwich [4/5]Not tingly but the chicken was really tender and great portion size. I really liked the pineapple bread, which was more unique than anything I've seen in a chicken sandwich. Not enough sauce IMO.+ Hot & Sour Soup [4/5]A classic take on hot and sour soup-- was just a little cold and lacking of goodies.+ Lazi Chicken [3.5/5]I thought this tasted okay-good but felt more like a small portion of spicy chicken nuggets.

If you're having a problem choose between Chinese food and a sandwich LOOK NO FURTHER MAMAHUHU IS HERE! Any of their sandwich options are to die for! Today I tried the Spicy Tingy and honestly it wasn't that spicy but nonetheless it was delicious! Besides sandwiches they also have soup, noodle, and rice options that are all decently priced. Definitely give this place a try if you've been meaning to or if this sounds like your type of food!!!

I'm a little picky when it comes to Chinese food. Nothing beats what my Mom or grandma or aunties would cook. So eating out at Chinese restaurants can turn me into a bit of critic. More often than not, I feel like Chinese restaurant food is doused in MSG. Considering I'm MSG sensitive, let's just say I'm a bit allergic to it, I appreciate restaurants that don't use or are able to adjust to leave out or lessen the MSG. Food needs to be about the natural ingredients in the dishes, not about how it can be enhanced or covered with saltiness. What was a newer concept for me was high quality food but fast casual style. I like this place!Authentic Chinese with fresh ingredients go far in my book. I'm also open to fusion as long as it is done well. And Mamahuhu does it well. We ordered the Super Savory chicken sandwich, Mapo Tofu with pork, Broccoli and mushrooms, hot and sour soup, Sweet and Sour chicken. This was all served up family style to appease a table of 4, plus one unexpected friendly guest that suddenly showed up to join us.The Super savory sandwich was somehow satisfying. We split one into 4. Chinese food and sandwich are rarely combined in the same phrase so this was the fusion portion of our meal. The chicken was moist and crispy. And what made this is a beautiful visit was that I came dine here with two childhood friends, one of whom I hadn't seen in over 30 year. And extra fun was unexpectedly running into her friend who also came from our hometown. Reunions with great food always makes for an amazing night!I can't wait to come back here! And I'm going to bring friends! Yum-O!

i really wanted to love mamahuhu and i think they get a lot of attention because it's a mister jiu's spinoff but I think that there's a broader more interesting cultural question about the role of chinese food in american cuisine / what good chinese food is / what AUTHENTIC chinese food is.mamahuhu is great for what it is but honestly I think you should come here for the cafe / diner style eats, which are the fried chicken sandwich, the drinks, and the dessert. I got the blood orange chrysanthamum which was great but a little overpriced. the great part is that it functions as a cafe (with wifi and outlets and big tables) so when it's empty, its good for that
