Based on a recommendation, I ordered takeout from MaMa Ji's. I ordered the triple c tofu, chow mein, and pea shoots. I made it to the restaurant a bit early and the host gave me a place to sit and some water while I waited for my order. The place was busy with many people eating and many people picking up orders to go. The food was piping hot when I got home. The tofu was sweet, salty, crunchy and delicious! The chow mein and pea shoots were good but needed some more seasoning. All in all would definitely get the tofu again!

FAVORITE PLACE!! Can I give this place more than 5 stars?? Whenever people visit me in SF, I take them here!!! I come here at least every other week. The service here is great, very homey and welcoming. The staff is so friendly and inviting, and the food comes out quickly. THE FOOD!!! I always get the Triple C tofu, chicken and eggplant dish, and the green beans. The tofu is amazing: how do they get it so crispy on the outside and still soft on the inside? And the glaze is to die for! My sister is vegetarian and she said this is her favorite tofu dish possibly ever.

Wonderful service and solid Szechuan in SF. We tried an array of items, from the crispy chicken to spicy cumin lamb and soup dumplings. Would definitely order most items again. The lo mein was a miss for me so I'd skip that. Easy to walk in and get a table for a table of 5 on a Friday night - we stopped by about an hour before closing. We'll definitely be back when we're in the mood for Szechuan!

Love this spot!! Wish this was next to my home so I can feel like I have Chinese home cooked meals all the time. Came by on an early Friday evening and got seated right away. The server let us know Mama Ji had some new dishes from her trip to China and we got almost all of them to try! The Garlic Ribs did NOT disappoint. It was so tender and full of flavor. Must try if the server recommends this to you!

I really love this spot. Their food is on point. The Hot & Numbing Fish is our go-to. A little on the pricey side of things but always delicious.

SERVICE- located in the Castro district between houses slightly away from other restaurants and bars - street parking available nearby- plenty of indoor seating and a few outdoor tables- good for large or small groups- servers explain menu specials thoroughly- food served quickly- ambiance good for semi casual dinnerMENU- sichuan food- vegan options available- average price ($17 per entree)FOOD- mother chen's bean curd (6/10): silken tofu in sichuan peppercorn heavy sauce with peas and onions. This dish is marked with three chilis on the menu for good reason. Between two of us, we could barely finish it before our tongues turned numb. Make sure to order it with a side of rice to help balance the flavors. - wo wo tou (8/10): six corn cake pockets with a smoked tofu, bell pepper, and green bean stir fry. This was one of the specials that the chef had just added to the menu. It was unlike any dish I had seen in a Chinese restaurant. I really liked the flavor of the tofu mixture as it was quite spicy but also very umami from the firm tofu. On its own the corn cake was bland but served as a good vehicle for the filling. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! There were a lot of unique vegetarian options and the flavors lived up to my expectations

I am SO happy I found this place. I was looking for a good sichuan restaurant and this happened to be walking distance. The food here is freaking DIVINE! It's a little hole in the wall, no frills but very lively and you can tell people are really enjoying the food. I ordered the Sichuan fish, chili paste noodles, cumin lamb, and chongqing chicken. Everything had the level of spice that I was seeking and tasted so good! The cumin lamb didn't really taste like cumin but it was cooked very well. My favorites were the chicken and the fish. The portions are huge and you'll have plenty leftover! Check it out

Food: 4/5Service: 4/5Value: 4/5Ambiance: casualOrdered the hot and numbing fish, triple C tofu (spicy carmelized tofu), fish with chiles and Sichuan pepper. My favorite dish was actually the caramelized tofu as that homemade sauce was unique. The numbing fish is a specialty and while I enjoyed it, I thought it was a bit "too crispy". The Sichuan fish was decent but isn't the best I've had in the area. It's a little light on the fish. Portions are good so it justifies the cost. Service is standard, nothing missing but nothing above and beyond. I'd come again but wouldn't say it's one of my favorites.

I thought this place was just ok. I went with a group of people so we did family style. We ordered the Szechuan chicken, the shrimp, chow mein, cucumber salad, pork fried rice, potstickers, and soup dumplings. They are known for their Szechuan so I would recommend ordering those items. The chicken was probably my favorite. Everything else I felt lacked flavor and spice. The servers were all very friendly. Not sure I would go back here tho.
