I stopped ONLY ONE TIME during work hours after an appointment closeby. I ordered a lobster sandwich and sat down for a few minutes... The sandwich was decent but nothing special and/or nothing to complain about. What really pushed me to write this review was WHAT HAPPENED NEXT:While sitting near the back entrance on 2nd St., someone suddenly stormed in, and the smell that followed was ABSOLUTELY unbearable. I'm talking about a STENCH so overpowering and nauseating, it made me instinctively recoil. At first, I figured it was just a BUM off the street sneaking in to the restroom--pretty typical for SF right?? But NOOOOO, to my shock, this person walked STRAIGHT into the "EMPLOYEE ONLY" door!!Yes, the person who smelled like they had literally CRAWLED OUT OF A DUMPSTER was an EMPLOYEE handling YOUR food. For a place charging nearly $60 FOR A SANDWICH!! you'd expect at least BASIC hygiene standards. This wasn't just off-putting... it was disgusting beyond belief!!Safe to say: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!

It had been on my want-to-go list for a while, and I finally got to try it! I had their Lobster Roll Flight, which came with three flavors: 2 oz lemon butter roll, 2 oz spicy honey butter roll, and 2 oz truffle butter roll, all served on half buns with kettle chips. The lobster itself tasted great and fresh. The butter roll was really delicious as well, with a puff and buttery taste that complemented the lobster perfectly.

I love Luke's lobster! It's so good. I love their flights so I can try all the butters. I love their lobster. I love that it comes with a chips and drink. This is not a cheap lunch/meal by any means. I easily spend $45 here each time. My partner would like to second this and say "very expensive especially when going with girlfriend, but very worth it when girlfriend loves it." Lobster used to be a food for commoners but now it is pricey and probably more so here in SF when Luke's gets their lobsters from Maine. I have never had bad or chewy lobster here. It's always yummy and soft and flaky. Out of all their current styles, the truffle butter is INCREDIBLE. With the hot honey I felt like the sweetness masked the lobster flavor a bit. Luke's way (standard, butter and dill I think) is also great. You can get a 6oz roll for about the same price as the 3 2oz sampler. So, as a flavor sampler myself, this is the only way I roll. Fun fact, Luke's Lobster is a B Corp which means they uphold more sustainable practices, both environmentally and socially. It takes the sting out of the price a little knowing that it's a well run company trying to do good while also being in business. Order at the counter and grab a seat. They're pretty quick at bringing it out to you.

I came across Luke's Lobster on Yelp when checking out spots to enjoy while on my recent visit to SanFran. I'm not usually a lobster roll kinda girl, but it's only been because I hadn't had 'the one' yet. I didn't love the cold concept and the warm version I had wasn't 'it'. But when I read reviews for Luke's, I knew it was worth checking it out.My hotel was located in Union Square which isn't super far from this location so I figured it'd make a nice dinner in my hotel and a great way for me to get my steps in. When I visited on an early Friday evening, there was one guy sitting and enjoying his food and two team members in the back. Pretty quiet for a Friday but no complaints from me! Despite reviewing the menu dozens of times before I went in, I still didn't know what I wanted, lol. The staff was so patient and kind, I'm sure they were wishing that I'd hurry up and order! I finally decided to go with the combo including a small lobster roll, a bowl of clam chowder and a drink. I had my heart set on the lobster bisque but the gentleman who rang me up promised me that it'd be some of the best clam chowder that I've ever had. Sold. The price felt like a down payment on a home, but eggs are like $25 these days so my girl math made it even. I was tempted to stay and enjoy the peace of the restaurant but decided to walk back to my hotel.I was so happy to get back to my hotel and realize that my chowder was still warm - yay! Let me say. The guy at Luke's was not lying, it was some of the best clam chowder that I've ever had. If not #1, then #2. It was so flavorful, not too thick or thin, it was filled with clams and potatoes. Wow. I need it shipped to me by the barrel. And the roll! I was so upset when I realized that I neglected to ask for one of their special butters but whew, it was awesome without it. I barely got good pics because I was so hungry. The bread was so buttery and soft. They were incredibly generous with the lobster, like, was there a sale on lobster meat? How can they just pack it on like that? lol Whatever, I didn't have any of these questions at the time because I was too busy stuffing my face with lobster roll. Seriously worth every single dime. I wish I would have brought some chowder back with me to Atlanta!

Excellent lobster rolls! The lobster meat is generous, fresh, and slightly sweet. The bread is beautifully crunchy on the lightly spread surface with a chewy soft inside. The flavors are spot on and I think they have a special little trick with citrus kernels - I enjoyed every bite. I like the lobster bisque too, but perhaps just a tad bit too salty.Looking forward to returning.

Was craving a mid-afternoon snack after an early light lunch. I got the tasting which is half rolls of the shrimp, lobster and crab. It was $30, which is pretty pricey. Though each of the rolls were filled up high. Tastes good but a bit overpriced for the amount of food. I was still hungry after I left.

Luke's is one of the best lobster roll places in the area - my personal favorite. It's a casual, but clean, space. Surprisingly quant and quiet in the city, and affordable in my opinion (I pay much more for lobster rolls at home with no ocean access!) The menu is small, but if there's anything I've learned about restaurants, it's that a smaller menu typically means higher quality food - and Luke's is absolutely that! As someone who is from a landlocked state, the fresh lobster was a god send! Buttery and soft, not rubbery, and on a toasted bun. I ordered the classic lobster roll and would 10/10 order again. But honestly- I imagine anything from Luke's is spectacular! The staff is also really nice, always greeting with friendly faces, and quick to prep and serve. I came in alone one day while my husband was working, and I felt like I was eating amongst friends. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the financial district!
