Let me start off by saying that I'm typically not a breakfast type person. I like breakfast food, don't get me wrong, but I typically don't go out for breakfast. With that said, I'm glad I did. Let's get into it...Ambiance - The atmosphere at Heist was very busy and a little cozy. Tables were in high demand and we were seated near a window which looks out onto an outside table where people were eating. The place can accommodate couples and groups. I didn't see much of the decor as we were faced towards the street.Service - Service at Heist was pretty good. I'd say the only minor ding was that my wife got some bottomless coffee and nobody came back by to offer her more. When she asked if she could get some to go, they said no. But the food came quickly and outside of that service was good. My water was topped off multiple times.Food - The food was great. I had the Captain Crunch Burrito, which does not contain breakfast cereal. It had chorizo, eggs, bacon, cheese and potato. It also came with some spicy sauce which was great. I enjoyed my food. I don't recall what my wife ordered, but she liked hers too. A+ in this area, which is arguably the most important factor.Overall, it was a good experience at Heist and I would definitely return if I'm in the area. Tell them Craig sent you and get no special treatment or discounts because they have no clue who I am.

Was looking for a new brunch spot to try and found Heist on Yelp. We came around 11 AM on a Monday and it wasn't that busy. We were promptly seated and received our food within 10 minutes of ordering -- super quick! I got the crispy chicken sandwich and my friend got the avocado toast with an added egg. Crispy chicken sandwich was good but a but kinda dry and could use way more of the secret sauce. Fries were seasoned well but could have been crispier. There was definitely a generous amount of avocado on the toast, really worth the price compared to other places. Wouldn't go out of my way to come again, but would happily eat here if anyone brings it up!

'Heist' is an odd name for a brunch spot, isn't it? Images of armed robbery don't necessarily increase my appetite for breakfast, but I can't deny the popularity of this place during the week when it looks like tourists from the nearby hotels appear to fill the place in packs. I just walked in and saw an empty seat at the little counter next to the prep area.I asked the head server if I could sit there. She approved. I had never been here before, so the menu was unfamiliar to me. It appeared they focus on pancakes, burritos, and breakfast plates. I passed on the retro-sounding Captain Crunch Burrito because hey, Cap'n Crunch cereal wasn't mentioned. I played it safe and ordered the $20.65 Brekky Plate (photo: https://yelp.to/rONbAWZzjM).I have to admit I was rather disappointed because the toast was slightly burnt and the scrambled eggs were a tad rubbery. On the upside, the housemade chicken sausage and homestyle potatoes were pretty tasty. I think the secret sauce was a peppered aioli but helpful in lubricating the rest of the dish. Also helpful was the satisfying $5 House Drip Coffee (photo: https://yelp.to/bLvnt08XYD).FOOD - 3 stars...middling results on my plateAMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...looked light and bright, just busySERVICE - 4 stars...pretty industrious crew here, thoughtful tooTOTAL - 3 stars...comes down to the food, maybe I'll go for Captain Crunch next timeRELATED - Exploring Nob Hill? While on a business trip in San Francisco, I stumbled upon Heist in the Lower Nob Hill | Union Square district. I found a bustling, high-paced scene, in which hunger was being robbed from a crowd of patrons by a highly-skilled team of restaurateurs serving up outstanding, homemade delicious food and drink options.I managed to score a single counter seat on a Saturday morning. Make sure you arrive early, as lines form quickly and reservations are first-come, first served. I was greeted by a very friendly woman, who answered all of my questions about the menu in a very polite, albeit speedy, pace given the current scene. Having a front row seat next to the kitchen, I was able to watch dozen of breakfast goodies (burritos, french toast, pancakes, avocado toasts) being whisked out to happy customers waiting for their own delectable loot to arrive. I went with the Heist Breakfast Plate ($24.50), which is 3 scrambled eggs w/cheese, choice of one buttermilk pancake or French toast, home potatoes, secret sauce, & toast. You also get your choice of one: house chorizo, house chicken sausage, or bacon. I went with the recommended French toast and house-made chicken sausage. For my drink, an Espresso, which was hot, wonderfully bold and delicious. About ten minutes later, my reward finally arrived. The plate itself was presented beautifully. A perfect combination of color, textures, savory and sweet, all timed to perfection. I surgically began with the French toast. The brioche bread was amazing, perfectly cooked with an outstanding berry compound butter. The home potatoes were amazing. Flash fried crispy on the outside and wonderfully smooth and soft inside. The addition of the "secret sauce" was also a perfect dipping partner in crime. The eggs were also cooked to perfection and the cheese was a nice accomplice. The house-made chicken sausage was absolutely incredible. A perfect blend of chicken, onions, flavors and seasoning, with the right amount of heat to balance the sweetness of the star French toast. The olive bread was also great - that famous San Francisco sourdough with a little bonus. A treat!Heist is an outstanding addition to the neighborhood. It has a great down-to-earth family-friendly feel, without the "greasy spoon" aspect of a diner. Think elevated diner food in a way that only San Francisco's restaurant scene can deliver. Prices are on par with everything in San Francisco, and the quality is among the best. A few outdoor seats, along with room for about 40-50 guests inside. The bathroom is a small, all-gender WC, kept very clean. I highly recommend a Heist stop next time you are in San Francisco to score some amazing food, friendly ambiance and great downtown energy.

High noon, Wednesday I was in Union Square looking for Avocado Toast. Walking west down busy Post St towards the unknown, I reached Heist. What a name, I expected an Ocean's Eleven theme. Pleasant surprise, a beautiful cafe, outdoor tables, large windows, sun streaming into the large dining area as well as counter. Light wood throughout, bright & modern. Every table full so I sat at the counter. So, the main event, bonus star goes to the toast actually toasted! (Inexplicably, this is rare.)Another bonus point for the lovely presentation. The strip of bacon was yum, crispy & chewy at the same time.Super friendly service, even asked me how I wanted my egg cooked. Waiter clearly cared if I was happy with my food. I dropped my napkin & he instantly gave me another without my asking. Classy. As I always say, my opinion is subjective, I wasn't a fan of all the seeds. Seeded bread, seeds between the avocado slices, thick layer of seeds on top. Tasted like a seed sandwich with a green base. Others may like the crunch. I would definitely return to sample more menu items. Everything out of the kitchen looked fresh & appealing. Some advice. Best to approach Heist from Union Square, walk west on Post, reverse direction to leave. This will avoid the wretched refuse yearning to be free of the Tenderloin containment zone. Sf politicians should be ashamed of themselves. In closing, Support Local !

Such an amazing place! The food, service, and ambiance were amazing. I ordered the Nutella latte, fresh fruit, captain crunch burrito, and French toast. The portions were a great size. We ordered a couple items and shared. I would recommend this place over and over again and when I come back in town I'll definitely stop back in.
