Ranked best dishes:1) Xian Cold Noodles (E1): must try2) Pork, shrimp, leek dumplings (B15): solid choice that you can get cooked & frozen3) Beef Pancake4) Xi'ian beef noodles (E3): sauce isn't too heavy but yet flavorful. It's good but it's not the star of the show hereThey do take cc but their preference is cash

Food tastes great. Price is very affordable. The restaurant is cozy and packed! Coming back for more. Bill before the sweet pancakes was $36. With the pancakes is $45.50. Wish they show you the maths tho, they only give you the final amount on the hand-written check. Have to take their word for it.

I struggle with going out and getting Chinese food because it's something I can usually eat at home, but then I end up missing out on great spots to support like this one. My friend introduced me to this place, and it's so good. Xi'an cold noodles were so good. Very filling, well seasoned, not too oily, not too spicy. The noodles had tears in it that made it seem like they were handmade. Dumplings were very good. Tried the corn chicken ones and the leek, pork, shrimp ones. Can't go wrong with any of them. We were sat right in front of the person wrapping them. They're stuffed to the brim with filling. Loved the beef roll cake. Very crispy and filling. A good portion.Definitely would come here again, especially for the cold noodles.

This place is small, but they have good food so take outs are very popular. We saw lots of people coming in for pick up.It was our first time here, my dad choose this place for our Chinese New Year family union meal.Like I said, the place is tight; so we snuggled close to each other, it's actually kind of nice.My dad ordered so many dishes for us. These are the ones that stood out for me.Pig's earLamb skewerBeef rollsXLBPork filled breadChicken pot with hand pulled noodles was the star of the meal.

Excellent tiny locals spot for legit hand pulled noodles. Came for a late mid week lunch and saw them pulling the noodles myself near the back room: the real deal.We saw Happy Family on a list of best Chinese food in SF, and if you keep your expectations in line for a small mom and pop, it did not disappoint. Many of the dishes here feature hand pulled noodles in garlicky chili oil, either wok fried or in soup. After reading reviews that said the meat dishes may be disappointing, we went with vegetables and noodles for all dishes, and had a good experience. My waitress did not speak English, but I was able to point at what I wanted, get change for the parking meter etc. A smile and hand signals work in any language. The levels of flavor and hand pulled noodles make Happy Family worth a visit.

Just fyi they do not speak english so be respectful! Great Food and great prices, decent parking! The soup broth and the noodles were delicious; the lamp skewers were seasoned so well. The noodles are super chewy and fresh.

I love a place where I can just sit and watch incredibly skilled people making dumplings and noodles. They're so so fast and might I say make more delicious dumplings than a robot?! The portions here are also super generous. Between me and my partner the one bowl of noodles was probably enough! He did enjoy the beef pancake a lot as well and I loved the refreshing gingery lotus roots. The noodles were super fresh and perfectly chewy. Would definitely come back again and get some dumplings too!!

The flavor of the dishes that I got was pretty good, but I was not impressed by the meat quality. I almost wish that I'd ordered vegetarian instead, so I got all the amazing seasoning without the chewy and old tasting meat. We got the cumin lamb, and like I said, I loved the strong cumin flavor and the veggies were cooked to perfection. The lamb was too chewy though and had a weird taste, which I typically don't get in lamb.I also got the beef chow fun and loved the chewy noodles and the taste of the wok cooked veggies. But the beef was a miss and had a strong beef odor.I loved the green beans. No complaints.

It can be challenging to get by if you don't speak Chinese, but it's definitely doable. Ordering over the phone is particularly tricky, so I recommend having a menu in front of you and specifying the letter and number of your order. I usually get takeout, but I finally came in for lunch this time. There was no wait on a Sunday, and it's a cozy mom-and-pop shop where you can watch them make dumplings through a glass window. My favorites are the string beans and the steamed dumplings--they pair perfectly with their orange hot sauce and vinegar. The potstickers were perfectly fried, with a nice crispy texture. We also ordered the massive chicken dish over noodles, which seemed large enough to feed 6-8 people. We definitely had leftovers! One tip: If you pay in cash, there's no service charge. Overall, this is a solid Chinese restaurant and worth checking out.

This place was sooo good! The cold skin noodles were the highlight--I've been thinking about them every day since I tried them. The noodles had a great texture and chew, and the sesame-based sauce paired perfectly. They were served at room temperature, which was just right - not too cold like that one Korean noodle dish. The dumplings are one of the best in the city, with the corn dumpling being our favorite. They were well cooked with a nice balance of flavor and texture. The Xiangjiang chicken plate was full of flavor, and the noodles in the dish were cooked perfectly. It wasn't too spicy. While the price seemed a bit high at first, the portion size was generous and the leftovers lasted us for days. The service was exceptional. We were greeted by a woman with a huge smile on her face. The staff went beyond to make sure we were comfortable. For example when they packed our chicken, they put it in a party tray. As she was about to hand it to us, she felt the bottom and that it was still a little hot, so they went to go get cardboard for us to hold under without asking - it was a really thoughtful gesture. I'll definitely be back very soon, I need to have those cold noodles again!
