I've been here more than a handful of times because it honestly feels like an old shoe on Geary near Polk next to A La Turca, the old-school Turkish restaurant (review: https://yelp.to/xS0Qk2QTtO). Like all good dive bars, it has a cool history that started with a wrestler named Hank and a boxer named Ralph who decided to open a bar together back in 1947.The bar's name is an amalgam of their names, and they kept a loaded pistol under the register. It still has a roughhewn quality that would make you think an arm wrestling match would break out between two drunk customers like a scene from "Barfly". The difference though is that the bartenders have always been friendly to non-regulars like me.Certainly no complaints from me on the prices. Whether it was a Makers Mark & Ginger (photo: https://yelp.to/soyaYncjP7) or a Tequila Sunrise (photo: https://yelp.to/cb6ipQ7wBz), it's always $7. Now I haven't gone as far as racking up the balls and playing pool here. I leave that to the regulars who seem to know each other very well. Don't let the red metal gate scare you off. It's a friendly spot.DRINKS - 4 stars...cheap and not watered downAMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...still in relatively good shape after their renovation SERVICE - 4 stars...great bartenders hereTOTAL - 4 stars...a really solid vintage dive barRELATED - Exploring the Tenderloin? A bar in the TL without the frivolity of most downtown watering holes and is unpretentious as they come. my initial visit came by accident as I searched for a place to hang out before a show at the Great American Music Hall just around the corner and was pulled in by the neon signage. the bartender's background music consisted of Sinatra and...Fishbone, imagine that. the majority of patrons seemed to be from around the area and in the service industry, giving it a working class and low key vibe--my type of spot. my last visit I arrived a bit under the weather and to chill before coincidentally enough, a Fishbone show at the GAMH. the bartender (Drew) thoughtfully tossed in extra cloves in my hot toddy, the 1st of a trio of toddies, which cleared me up in time for the frenetic and frenzied Fishbone performance. it's good to have a place you feel at home at and not be judged for your drink of choice before a live show in this part of town.

Cool little dive bar with decently priced drinks. I liked the old style photo booth it even had a door that closed. I was a little sad that the black and white photos did not work but it still took great colored photos. I ordered a beer but the price was different than the one posted and I even got a different beer from the tap instead of a bottle. If you are looking for a mellow dice bar check out this place.

I have mixed emotions about this place because I saw a camera in the mens bathroom and isn't that illegal?! This is your neighborhood divey bar in the TL. I didn't know it's been there since the 40s and has some cool articles from the 80s in the bathrooms. There is a pool table and Photo Booth for your amusement. You can also rent out a private table with a keg/tap. Pretty cool.

My favorite dive in SF. Bartenders are cool with prompt service and the bar has a friendly neighborhood vibe. If I'm coming from out of town I usually just stay at the Marker and walk down here for a nightcap.

Decided to take my bf out for his birthday. We went to a few random bars and stumbled upon this Gem. Let me just start off by saying they have a photo booth. Idk why I was so excited maybe because you don't really see bars in SJ with photobooths. The bartender was approachable and friendly. It was a chill vibe.

Well let me get started with the alcohol They have it and lots of it. Of course beverages are only as good as the people that serve them and this where the Ha- Ra Club really shines. You never really know what you are gong to get when you walk in to a bar especially one with such an outstanding legacy. The Bar Tenders here really shine! Generally if you can name it, imagine it invent it or reminisce it, they can mix it. The quality of pool play at The Ha-Ra Club never ceases to amaze. I, an ambitious middling player always looking to improve am rarely disappointed. How ' bout the pistol behind the glass, the handles on the wall ( in case u want to pull the wall closer to you, I guess) the beautiful wooden bar, the Photo Booth. The Ala Turka Restaurant next door , in the top 3 for the Bay, Los Hermanos Taqueria across the street if you are hungry. Also, this fact: It is a Green Bay Packer Bar and as founder of the local fan club, I am planning activities for when the Pack begins Quest 14 : The Packers breaking their own record bringing home NFL title number 14. An all around sports bar really. 49ers, Giants, Valkyries, Warriors, ....

Recently visited as we had a few days in the city. And what a great, friendly place it is. The barman Nick was really friendly & helpful, and gave us heads up on cool places to visit. I'd recommend anyone to call in for a few drinks. Next time I'm in the city I'll definitely call in.
