I used to come to this neighborhood for the dim sum restaurant that preceded this one, so decided to see how the food is.Har how: B+Egg tarts: CChao zhou style dumpling: C+pan grilled pork bun (has shrimp): C+tofu roll: BTofu skin wrap: Ataro dumpling: A-egg lava bun: Atomato beef pan fried noodles: BFood overall is solid, nothing was bad. The egg tarts texture of the crust wasn't my favorite. The tofu skin wrap and egg lava bun are my top two choices, both are delicious versions I've had.Food comes out quick. Service is very attentive but not that friendly, may just be language barrier.

We wanted to have dim sum for lunch but wanted to try something new. So I checked good ol' Yelp and found Feng Ze Yuan in the Richmond. Balboa Street can be difficult to find parking but it was a Tuesday afternoon, so we found a spot about a block away. Walking in, it seemed spacious for family dinners and they even have large party menus posted on the wall. They don't have too many small tables, so they allowed the 3 of us to use one of their larger tables. That was fine because we were famished and definitely needed the space for the dishes we planned to order.OUR PICKS:SHRIMP DUMPLINGS (HA GOW) ~ 4 sizable dumplings, shrimp filling was tasty and good. 5/5SHRIMP RICE NOODLE ROLLS ~ you get 3 rolls with two shrimp each. Soft and slurpable noodles with tender shrimp. 5/5STEAMED BEEF BALLS ~ you get 3 meatballs for one order and they tasted much like most dim sum restaurants. 4/5STUFFED TOFU SKIN ROLLS ~ I enjoyed the variety of different vegetables in the filling and the added texture from the tofu skin. 5/5STEAMED CHICKEN FEET ~ We almost always order this dish every time we have dim sum. Tasty, yet not overly seasoned, which I like. Sometimes chicken feet is too salty, but these were just right. 5/5SIU MY ~ 4 steamed pork dumplings. Tasted like other dim sum spots. Average size for the dumplings. 4/5CHAO-ZHOU STEAMED DUMPLINGS ~ 3 dumplings per order. These dumplings have peanuts, pork, radish, and leek in the filling. These were good too. 4/5STIR FRIED PEA SPROUT WITH GARLIC ~ A good portion of tender pea sprouts with aromatic garlic! 5/5BAKED PORK BUNS ~ 3 per order. Crunchy on the outside and soft in the center. And they were pretty big too! 5/5BAKED CUSTARD TARTS ~ 3 per order. It was on a small side for a custard tart, but the crust was so flakey and the custard was lightly sweetened. If only they were just a tad bigger! 4.5/5GIANT SEA CLAM RICE NOODLES ~ Nice crispy rice noodles on top and soft noodles on the inside. Geoduck was tasty and had the right chew to it. 5/5The food was a solid 4.5 stars! Had tons of leftovers. We enjoyed our meal and would even consider having a family dinner here. They certainly could accommodate family get-togethers.

Let me start by saying that I generally don't like Cantonese food, so take this review with a grain of salt. I find Cantonese food generally greasy and processed, as with many Americanized Chinese foods. I was in the area and only wanted a few small bites, so chose this place that served dimsum all day.Feng Ze Yuan is a nice neighborhood restaurant. The menu was in English with photos and prices, so it was transparent. As someone who did not like Cantonese dimsum, I found this place not-so-bad. :) I liked the pan-fried pork buns, sweet egg yolk lava buns, and Chinese donut rice noodle rolls. The beef chow fun had tender and flavorful beef, but there could have been more of it (1 star off). The deep-fried tofu skin shrimp rolls could have used a little more cilantro or veggies to balance the shrimp (1 star off).Serve was loud and over-stimulating, but I guess that is common in Cantonese culture. The staff was efficient though, so I didn't mind. I think I was out in about 45 minutes with a full belly and maybe a tad less disdain for Cantonese food.

Yum! Fantastic dim sum and Cantonese cuisine. Aside from your usual (but still yummy) favorites like Walnut Shrimp, they also offer dishes like Typhoon Shelter Baked Oysters and lots of Claypot dishes that will warm you up (so needed in these parts of the 'hood). Restaurant setup for your usual family and friends gatherings and/or take out and delivery. Located on Balboa Street and 45th Ave; just a few blocks away from Ocean Beach.

1 bad experience was all it took. We come here all the time for birthdays, holidays, casual meals, etc. Their food is so good and very reasonably priced. Even their set menus don't disappoint at all. We mostly come for dinner but have been here a few times for their dim sum. There's waves of crowds at times and some days it's just a few parties scattered in the dining area. This time around, I had a reservation for 5 people at 6pm on a chinese holiday. The tables through the restaurant are meant to accommodate large parties up to 14. So a party of 5 is really considered a small table. We ordered 6 dishes and 5 came out at around 6:15. The last dish didn't come out until 6:30, but we had no problem just going at the first few dishes while we waited. At 6:40, while all our plates were about halfway done and everyone was still going at the food, we had a waiter come up to ask "are you ready for the dessert?" We politely said no, not yet. Not 30 seconds later, we were shoved with dessert by another waiter who said "we have another wave of parties coming." Typically, you would allow parties to dine for 1.5 hours, which would've been acceptable if we were notified in the beginning. We were given 40 minutes. No one finished their meal in peace before we were shoved with to-go boxes. Before we even boxed our last dish, it was taken away. Worst thing yet, when we left, there wasn't even a party waiting for our table. Service like this is really unacceptable. I wish I was exaggerating because we liked this place so much. But, I'm not sure if we'll come back for a long time.

If you're looking for delicious dim sum served for dinner, Feng Ze Yuan is a hidden gem that absolutely nails it! Unlike most places where dim sum is only available for brunch or lunch, this restaurant offers a full dim sum menu in the evening, which is perfect for those late-day cravings.First off, the food is fantastic--every dish arrives hot and fresh. They serve all the classics like har gow, siu mai, BBQ pork buns, and pan-fried turnip cakes. They also have some unique specialty items you don't always see at other places, which makes it a treat to explore the menu.

Took a friend here for brunch, though I've never been either. I had a lot of faith considering it is in the area, and I would say o was not disappointed. Not a big restaurant but they manage to fit a lot of tables in. I did not have to wait on a Saturday morning which was fabulous, but unfortunately we were seated right by the kitchen/walkway to the restroom. This is not your fancy dimsum spot like Palette or Koi Palace, but more so a neighborhood spot where folks in the community actually go daily for some authentic bites. No biggie, as long as the food is good. Almost everything I ordered on the menu was great and classic, servers are not super attentive but will offer to cut spring rolls into pieces and bring vinegar upon request. Took off one star because (1) the XLB is housemade but skin is wayyy off, and (2) they did not check my order with me after I submitted my magic marker noted menu - resulting in missing my order of roasted squab. By the time we realized it never came, we had already gotten the check. If I'm ever brunching in the area again, would be down to come back.

This restaurant never seems to disappoint. Their dishes are always very consistent and great. Like most Chinese restaurants you ask the wait staff to suggest how you want dishes cooked and solicit their suggestions on what is fresh in the kitchen. I have never disliked. This time I ordered some familiar dishes as well as venturing out to some uncharted territory.

My initial inclination was to give 4 stars. But as I continued to eat more the rating started to dip. Was it because I was getting full or was it because I became more aware of the food?Pros:* all the dim sum was piping hot & fresh* items were cut up as the 7 of us shared all. * siu mai & ha gow good portion sizeCons:* the fried stuff dumpling with pork was missing the minced pork. The filling was very gummy. * the fried stuff dumpling with taro was missing the minced pork. Not much taro either. * the sticky rice in lotus leaf was missing the minced pork. And the rice mixture missing the umami. * the pan fried radish cake - missing the dried shrimp and bits of cured bacon wasn't infused. Too smooth and pasty. * the chicken feet missing the black bean and the fire. We ordered more than enough food for the 7 of us. Besides the dim sum we also ordered:* beef chow fun* tomato beef chow mein Hong Kong style The group liked the beef but I thought it had a funny taste. The beef was tender. We ordered a total of 11 dim sum items. Some doubled up. I may return.
