Best pupusas around!Discovered this spot at the Heart of the City's Farmers Market on Wednesdays through a coworker. Came to check it out once and became a regular ever since. The wait can be super long during lunch hour so I recommend coming at either 11am or 1pm. I waited for an hour once when I came at noon. My favorite is the lamb. It's so yummy! It costs a bit more than the rest of the flavors tho. I've also tried spinach and mushroom. Those were very good, too. The chips are very delish as well. I had both the plantain and yucca. I liked the spicy plantain chips a lot. One of the cashier ladies struggle with simple math so that can be a drawback or advantage depending on how much she asks you to pay, lol. Remember it's #PupusasWednesday! So get your pupusas on!

Best pupusas in the city for the best price! When I get that pupusa craving, I go to Estrelitta's at the Heart of the City Farmers Market at UN Plaza. The line/wait can be long, to time your lunch accordingly. I heard you can call it in, but it's best to order in person. And order in cash. They do take credit cards for a fee though.I've had just about every pupusa, minus the beef ones. My two favorites are the mushroom and cheese, and the spinach and cheese. The mushroom pupusa has a really that earthy, savory taste, and the spinach one is cooked perfectly. Sometimes cooked spinach has a weird taste, at least to me, but not in this pupusa. There is a choice of mild or spicy salsa. There is limited seating at this farmers market, so it's best to get your order to go.

these pupusas are certified delicious for a low low price. made fresh, the cheese is absolutely melty and goes perfectly with the thick and fluffy tortilla. i got the spinach and bean pupusas and both were perfect in their own way. i loved the spicy sauces and pickled veggies they gave with it too. it might take awhile for them to prepare your order but its so worth! pair it with one of the frescas for a good time.

Delicious pupusas!! And only $3.50... What a steal. I came across Estrellita's at the Heart of The City Farmer's Market at the Civic Center/UN Plaza on Wednesdays. I loved how the menu was so simple and very affordable. I got the classic pork, beans, and cheese stuffed pupusa. Each pupusa comes with curtido (pickled and slightly spicy veggie slaw) and tomate (mild or spicy tomato based sauce).I loved how the outer part of the thick corn tortilla was crunchy and the inside was soft. The pork, bean, and cheese filling was flavorful, but the tomate made the pupusa even better!! I got mild because I wasn't sure how the spicy would be, but next time I will definitely try spicy. The curtido was also very flavorful and a few jalapenos were thrown in for a small kick. They have so many different flavors of pupusas so i can't wait to try more! I was full after just 1, so it was worth the $3.50! They also have fruit frescas and horchata!! Ahhhhh.

The downsides: Long lines and/or slow waits occasionally. That and this stand only exists during the Civic Center Farmer's Market on Wednesdays and Sundays.... but maybe that's a blessing or I'd be here every day. This is my favorite places for pupusas in the city. I've had pupusas elsewhere in the city and there usually fine but these are inexplicably but noticeably better. I'm not even sure what's different. I joked with a friend that they're sprinkled in crack. Despite the fact it's in Civic Center, I highly doubt that's the case. I do, however, get cravings specifically for Estreluttas pupusas. They're cooked well, not too greasy or soggy, and made to order. They hold up well on the outside and are soft and gooey inside. Their aguas frescas are great (yes, they're sweet but a lot of that is just juice) and it is very clear that they are made with fresh ingredients, including fresh fruit, and not that powdery crap you find at so many pupuseria and taquerias in San Francisco. They recently raised the prices and they're still priced pretty well. The service is decent to awesome. I guess I've been going there for a while since one of the women who works there asks after my parents (who I've also gotten to eat there as well and who liked it a lot too). I like sitting outside to eat my food when there's an open table but they'll wrap it to go as well if eating in Civic Center Plaza isn't your thing.

Oakland Eat Real Festival 2010 [Stop #10]Mix (Bean, Cheese, Pork) Pupusa - $3I've been waiting to try a really good pupusa for a while now, and I finally got the chance to do so at this Salvadoran establishment. The pupusas are already pre-made and are grilled right in front of you by the same people who made them earlier that morning. I was about to embark into pupusa heaven once I got my plate. For $3, you get a pretty hefty pupusa with beans, cheese, and pork. This all comes with a bag of cabbage and a sauce that I still can't seem to identify. Although I couldn't really taste the pork in the whole dish, everything else was amazing. The melted cheese and beans mixed with the delicate but crispy outside is exactly what I needed. The sauce isn't spicy at all and adds a great tangy taste to the whole dish. Mmmmm pupusalicious!!!

I wasn't a huge fan of pupusas when I had them for the first time a year ago and had no desire to ever eat one again. But when I saw that Estrellita's was selling them at the Eat Real Festival for only $3 each I decided to give them another try. (I looked around--Estrellita's definitely had the best size-to-price ratio pupusas at the Festival!)I was so glad I did! Their pupusas were fantastic! I got the mixed pupusa revuelta filled with chicharron, cheese, and refried beans (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/YrmchIBT0ghomcds4d0mwA?select=eSBQMlUnl00UwyzpKsFFrw). The pupusas were freshly handmade and HUGE! Fresh off the griddle (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/YrmchIBT0ghomcds4d0mwA?select=OY4KzdwSTLdmukepM41zHg) it was so hot it almost burned me through the paper plate. The fresh pupusa was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The corn tortilla, pork, cheese, and beans were all so yum and the fabulous curtido provided a nice contrasting crunch and a touch of acid.Estrellita's pupusas have won me over :)

I tried my first pupusa today at the SF Street Food Festival and I wasn't disappointed! The pork pupusa was tasty and was made with pork, cheese, and beans. Normally I NEVER eat beans, but the beans tasted very good with the pulled pork. The dough was thick and very fresh. The pupusa was a good size (took up almost the entire paper plate) and it came with a bag of pickled cole slaw and a bag of hot sauce-- all of this for a mere $3?! WHAT A STEAL!

Little restaurant close to Civic Center, serving Salvadorean specialties. The pupusas are very goo. Since they make them fresh it may take some time to get your order out, so be aware. Had the revueltas (mixed), queso con hongos (cheese and mushrooms) and the chorizo con queso pupusas. Very tasty. The pupusa player comes with beans and rice with fried plantains. Will come back.
