El Calamar

Obviously not the best Peruvian food I've ever had, but adequate for a food truck. Was pleased to see salchi papa, since that is a great street food. Their lomo saltado was fine too, considering there aren't many other relatively cheap options around. Really appreciate how their fries are crispy no matter what dish they're served in.Salchi Papa: A guilty pleasure. A heap of French Fries with slices of deep fried hot dog. Except theirs was a tad more sausage-like and cut thin diagonally, so was a bit tastier. Lots of sauces (ketchup, mustard, mayo). There was some wilted shredded lettuce too, which was novel for me, and I wasn't a big fan. Definitely could have done without. But still a good snack.Lomo Saltado: My go to Peruvian dish. Theirs was pretty solid. Had a good ratio of veggies (tomatoes, onions, fries) to meat. The meat itself had a good sear, though it was a tad dry. Loved the soy sauce and cilantro marinade, though could have used some more loose sauce on the bottom. The rice was regular old white rice and a bit too large a portion compared to everything else. Don't miss getting the green sauce and orange sauce, they mitigate some of the dryness.

Not bad... had the Fish Sandwich ($11.50) comes with a side of twice fried fries.Truck is located on most days on Mission St near the corner of 2nd St.The fish was a red snapper, by flavor. The batter taste like a beer batter, but I can't be too sure. Flavor was good, but needed some tarter sauce. The bun was really good though. The twice fried fries kept it all crispy even in a cover plastic container. I think it might need a little salt or ketchup, but otherwise, it s OK.

I tried this today for my lunch. I eliminated carbs but I decided to get calamari for lunch and there were two small yuca fries in there so that kind of defeated my diet for the moment along w/ the batter around the calamari. LOLZ. Anyways, went ahead w/ it and I'm loving it! I wish they gave me two tartar sauces because I love to dip dip dip my calamari in the sauce super generously. :) I'll come back and try the other stuff when I'm not on this diet and I like the fact they are located near my work. I got the Jalea; which is the mix of fried Calamari, Shrimp, Fish and Yuca (Cassava) with a small side of their fried corn. The meal was delicious, the batter in the seafood was light, fluffy, and well seasoned. Yuca was soft and tender. You can find them at Mission and Second street intersection on Thursdays (Unless they update their location). Also they have the option of calling ahead to place food orders. This is definitely a good Food Truck for Peruvian food.

MOBILE PERUVIAN FOOD(3.25 stars)I'm a sucker for Peruvian food. Been to practically all the Peruvian restaurants in the city, time to venture and try Peruvian food trucks. I shouldn't have high expectation for food trucks but I do have high expectations for Peruvian food. My favorite kind of food so I'll know what is good and what needs improvement.LOMO SALTADO ($11) - portion to price was TERRIBLE. The price could have easily been lowered 4 dollars because the taste wasn't work the $11. I wasn't a fan of this Lomo Saltado as the meat was kind of the tough and the taste didn't give the "wow" factor as it tasted like a typical beef dish anybody could whip up. Where's the Peruvian flare?! The dish came with a small serving of house-made spicy sauce... AKA puree of jalapeno. If you like EXTREME SPICY that sauce would be for your palette as it was not so much for mine. Will I be back? Maybe to try other things.Until the next review....

Pretty solid lunch option for people working around the area, especially seafood lovers. This is starting to become one of my go to places if I'm craving a fresh and hearty meal. Options that I've tried include Lomo Saltado, Fish Tacos (grilled seabass), Calamari Sandwich, Fish sandwiches, and so much more! Out of the options I've tried, I really enjoy the fish tacos and lomo saltado. The fish is fresh and very flavorful. It comes with a side salad which has a delicious dressing. The lomo saltado is a great option for days I want a heartier meal. The beef and rice are delicious and very flavorful. Definitely the sauces because they really add a kick to the meal! There is a line during prime hours and they take time to cook the food. Come earlier or later during the day to avoid the rush.

Lomo Saltado is my go-to here. The sauce is really good, and you can even ask them for extra!It's got steak cuts with grilled veggies, balanced with rice and fries for carbs. I would probably prefer less rice and more grilled stuff, but it's still a fairly balanced mix.The wait tends to be on the long side, but you get a freshly cooked box of deliciousness.

Update 9-12-2014Had their Talapia over Rice, served with Onion Slaw, Peruvian Corn Nuts, & Lemon. Fish was cooked nicely, and had just enough spice.It was a nice entree portion, and I really enjoyed the brightness the dish obtained by adding the lime, and eating this Fish, Slaw, and Rice together , I ate the corn nuts solo :)still think this is a good choice --------------------Fresh, Light, and Bright, those are some of the things that I enjoy when having Fish Tacos, and in this case El Calamar delivered. I really enjoyed my Fish Tacos, found the Salad to be flavorful and well dressed, and very grateful it came with Sauce on the side that took the dish to the next level.For me this was a great Lunch choice, and very easy to recommend.

Outstanding Lomo Saltado for a completely reasonable price. Couple that with great service and you have a great restaraunt.
