This is my favorite no frills spot for a consistently great banh mi. The meat is always juicy and well marinated, the ratio of pickled veggies and jalapeño is perfect for non spice sadists, and the bread has just enough crunch without flaking all over you with every bite. Pro tip: the roasted duck is bomb.com.Yumminess: AAesthetics: BService: BPrice to Value: A

Ok so I rarely leave bad reviews because I honestly hate to do it, but I just had to. I was at UCSF and after leaving to head home across the bridge, I wanted a quick bite to eat. I was in the mood for Bahn Mi. I googled and saw the amazing reviews here. We found parking out front. There was a line out the door. All good signs, or so I thought. We ordered the pork Bahn Mi and two diet cokes. Very sweet woman taking the order and we tipped her 15%. Looked a bit run down and dirty in the back... Saw an older woman in the kitchen eating with her hands. No big deal, maybe a bit unsanitary but I like home made food. Some of the best is made by Grandmother types! We wait for the order as people lined up. About 10 minutes later our order was ready. I was so hungry I dove right in sitting at the little seating area. Right away I knew something was off. The meat was sort of grey, incredibly oily, and the bread was already soggy with "juice". It looked boiled? Then the smell. Sort of rancid. I took a few more small bites trying to get it down. My partner (who has an iron stomach and insatiable hunger) ate half his sandwich before we both looked at each other and wrapped the rest up to leave. I didn't want to wait in line to say anything. On the way home I ended up throwing up a bit. No joke. My partner said his stomach was in knots. We got home and tossed the rest (basically 1 and a half sandwiches) in the trash. We usually get the Bahn Mi at Monster Pho in Oakland. It's always grilled to perfection and so fresh. This was just an off putting and confusing experience based on all the reviews and the long line... sadly, we won't be back.

Yummy semi hole-in-the-wall place! Great banh mi that can be made vegan. The tofu was delicious and seasoned well. Service was quick and efficient. To make the banh mi vegan they omitted the mayo but I do think it would taste even better with some sort of vegan mayo option.

Decent. I ordered the cold cuts combination sandwich. Bread was not particularly fresh, but that might be because I came at the end of the day. The other main problem was insufficient mayo, so the sandwich was too dry. Meat was good. Carrots and radishes and cucumbers were good too. Could've done with more herbs, and of course switching out the jalapeño peppers for more authentic birdseye chilli peppers. At $12, expensive for a banh mi but still cheaper than almost anything else, so it is what it is. The inside of the place is a rather dishevelled mess, and the outside parklet is grimy.

I regularly get either the fresh bowl (add papaya and cabbage) or the green salad (add rice noodles) -- they basically end up being the same -- with chicken and fish sauce. It's so consistent and is always delicious and fresh. One of my favorite salads!

The absolute best banh mi in sf. Better than the tenderloin place. Get duck with extra pork belly. Delicious bread, meat, picked veggies and sauce

Probably the best Vietnamese sandwich in the city! Small place, but cute. Past service but it doesn't feel like fast food. Nice people. Recommended!
