I remember going to cooking papa when I was younger. Their food wasn't bad. Sad to find out that their restaurant is closed. But luckily social media showed their ad for first time customers, you can order their family set meal for $9.99. Includes 3 entrees that go with rice and a soup. What a deal! Although, after trying their food, $36.99 doesn't seem so bad. It can feed up to 2-3 people, its average pricing. Everyday has different choices, we chose the one with curry chicken wings, cabbage & celery stir fry w/ shrimp. The soup of the day was a winter melon w/ red dates. All were very good, especially the curry chicken wings, they were huge! When picking up my order, the tablet was not responsive. So I ended up texting them to let them know of my arrival. There is also one person behind the wall to help with retrieving orders. It was an easy handoff, all they need is to scan the QR code their app sends you after ordering. And the worker also recommends adding them on WeChat if you have any questions. One thing though to note, their app that they use is automatically in Chinese. So you'd have to translate it if you don't know how to read it. And when they send you a confirmation text for their location, it's also in Chinese. The owner knows how to type in English but it'd be nice not to constantly translate their notifications or to order. TLDR: I've already started to recommend this place to many friends, so they can try the good food!

I recently tried this and was pleasantly surprised. The food here deviates from the typical strong-flavored Chinese dishes; instead, it offers a comforting, homemade taste reminiscent of mom's cooking. It's a refreshing change for anyone tired of the usual MSG or oily options. The dishes are wholesome and satisfying, though I have one small critique: the Napa cabbage could be cut into smaller pieces for better enjoyment. Overall, a great choice for those seeking a more authentic, home-cooked meal experience.I tried to use the first time coupon code. However, it didn't work.

There used to be a Cooking Papa location in Foster City off Edgewater & Beach Park Blvd, apparently it had moved to the Sam Mateo Downtown area closer to the business district & all the high-tech enterprise software companies located; eg. Snowflake, Workday, etc. I now miss the Deli Counter there used be next to the main Cooking Papa Foster City restaurant for quick takeout orders w/o having to get in line, it's always long Parking at this 21st Avenue is much more challenging than Foster City which has large plaza parking lots. The foods are good Hong Kong style, I particularly love their Sea Food Stew Pots that come in an earthenware that keeps the food piping HOT Other earthenware pots like Beef Brisket, Lamb, and salted fish pots are amazingly delicious as well. Another thing I look for in an authentic restaurant is their table condiment set, other than the usual soya sauces, vinegar, Sriracha, what I look for is their homemade Chili Oils. Not only these go well with the above-mentioned earthenware pots yummies, it's a must on the Hong Kong BBQ's - roast ducks, crispy roast porks, etc, as well as Won Ton Noodle Soup or Stewed Brisket Noodle Soup, oh sooooi good. The prices have really escalated in recent years, at least 30-40% higher. But, it's pretty much the norm these days, I mean a Big Mac is now $6-7, a BOBA Tea is in the same $5-8 range, it's not cheap but good foods

It's a new business model for this location, they offer daily meal set only and the price is very affordable. The set has 3 main dishes with soup and rice. That was enough food for 4 adults for sure, incredibly convenient if you want to go on a budget. My absolute favorite is beef curry, goes really well with white rice.

Cooking Papa is located inside San Mateo food hall. The place is actually a ghost's kitchen where you can order your food on the website or the iPad located inside the food hall. Cooking Papa offers home cooking so you don't have to do the meal prep or cooking at home. They really taste like home-cooked meal. The best thing is they don't use MSG, and we can tell they use fresh ingredients. Right now they're running a promotion for first time customers only you will get three dishes with one rice and soup on the side for only $9.99. Then second time customer can get the same deal for only $30.99. Third time customer will purchase at regular price for $36.99, which is still a good deal. What we get :* stir-fry chicken with string beans * stir fried pork belly with winter mellon* Dried beancurd & hairy gourd with pork soup * seasonal vegetables * white rice for us, this is such a good deal we don't have to do all the milk prep and cleaning. Very convenient during busy weeknights. So we definitely will be ordering this again.

$36 for 3 dishes, 1 soup and rice - where can you find somewhere cheaper? No where! Also for your first order, it's only $9.90!O R D E R E D * seasonal vegetables* sweet corn fish filet* stir fried pork collar with celery * red dates goji berries & cordyceps flower w/ chicken soup * and riceV E R D I C TThis is the perfect home cooking spot without needing you to do the cooking. It's such a good deal for the value you pay. The flavor is just like what my mom would make at home and now, with cooking papa's assistance, I'm able to spend more time with my family instead of spending it in the kitchen.Their service is quick and efficient, when you arrive, you just give them a call and they'll bring the door freshly made out to you. Everything is made to order and nothing is premade making every dish hot and fresh! They're not meant to be dine-in, it's made to order for to-go and you can dine in at home to eat it. Parking can be relatively easy or a bit harder depending on the time of your pick up, of course it can get a bit busy during dinner time and when most people get off work.

The abalone and chicken hot pot was an absolute delight! This main course was absolutely delicious and generously portioned. The four of us had more than enough to enjoy a truly satisfying meal.

Well it's not quite what it used to be but it's nice that there's still something to remind me of how fantastic that old restaurant was in 2011-2016. Mostly it left me wishing it was still there and had never changed ownership but it's still not bad now, especially considering how good the price is.

I enjoy their string bean chicken and steamed veggies! It's flavorful and has good texture. The chicken is tender and the string beans have a satisfying bite to it! The steamed veggies are also nicely seasoned and have a good bite to it. Not ovely steamed. Pickup was fast although parking might be a bit difficult on that street. They share a ghost kitchen space.
