I was at an event that got catering from Chuck's. The pork belly sandwich is super satisfying! The pork belly has nice balance of crispy bits and meaty bits. The bread is really good -- flaky on the outside and tender on the inside. The egg salad sandwich... it's stunning in presentation with all the chives and thick milk bread slices. The challenge for me is that it doesn't live up to the Japanese 7/11 or Lawson's egg salad. There's something not quite as satisfying about this bread... it doesn't quite have the mouthfeel/texture of the bread. The egg salad itself is good... maybe could use a bit more flavoring (like mustard?) for my personal favorite preference. I'll stick to the Banh Mi sandwiches and would def go for the pork belly sandwich!

Back when it opened, I used to go to this place quite a bit. It looked cozy inside, even though there was no place to sit.Today, my girlfriend and I decided to go there on the spur of the moment. What an immense disappointment it was.You can now sit inside, but it's dark and uninspiring. The food was absolutely sub par. I had the crispy pork that was so overly salty, it must've been a mistake by the cook. My girlfriend had the vegetarian option which was wet and completely tasteless, quite cold as well. Back in the day these sandwiches would come with a tasty pickle on the side . In fact, a different pickle for each different sandwich. At $40 for two sandwiches (20% tip automatically included) , that actually makes sense. This is no longer the case. I ate my sandwich as I was quite hungry. My girlfriend threw half of hers in the trash.I had looked forward SO much to going back. In fact, I drove halfway through town for this "culinary experience". Definitely the last time.

Very mid $20 sandwich. Small portions, the roast beef wasn't heated through all the way, and there was a required "tip" even though it's a take out place with no service at all. Value to product just isn't there at this place. Plenty of great food in the city for $20

Well, I was looking forward to trying this place since I love bahn mi and Slanted door cant get it together to open up. I went in and they were really slow. 2 sandwiches and 2 coffees were $58 after service charge but before tip. After my sandwiches were ready I had to wait another 10 minutes for the ca phe sua nong, which turned out to be sub par. I got the pork belly sandwich and it was cold. BBQ pork bahn mi is served hot. The seasoning and flavor and texture of the pork was amazing, but bahn mi typically comes carrot and daikon in addition to what they use. So just for context I grew up in So Cal and ate Vietnamese food in the Little Saigon area on Bolsa avenue in Westminster in the early 90's. Broken rice was still used universally back then. This was also long before the Pho craze. No Vietnamese restaurant no matter how fancy, in San Francisco, is as good as those cafe's were back then. At the time bahn mi was $2.50. Same price at every restaurant or coffee shop. Adjusted for inflation the sandwich should only be $6.00. If you want to drop that kind of money on a takeout sandwich lunch be my guest, but if you grew up with real Vietnamese cuisine and/or limited funds, and know the value of a dollar, you're probably not going to be happy with it. If you have money to burn then go ahead, you're giving somebody a job.

You know, there are days I want a Vietnamese sandwich and I can easily buy five of them for $20 easily in San Jose. I can buy about the same in San Francisco at the fabulous and iconic Saigon Sandwich. But there are days when I want a super gourmet or high quality Vietnamese sandwich and Chuck's Takeaway offers that. I used to order the Vietnamese sandwich aka banh mi, a lot at Charles Phan's Out the Door restaurants back in the past. I have gone to Chuck's Takeaway twice now and it is not cheap but the ingredients are definitely high-quality. I've had the CP's #3 and also mom's meatballs and both are amazing. CP #3 has a really good flavor to it and I would prefer this one over the meatballs just because the meatball sandwich is quite soggy after just even 5 minutes. I had both sandwiches in the car immediately so that I can eat them fresh and experience the flavors immediately. Yes, the sandwiches are pricey and they do include a 15% service charge, so please take note of that if you do visit this shop. It makes it one of the most expensive Vietnamese sandwiches in the Bay Area, but it's worth it if you want to splurge. I do want to try the other sandwiches and cannot wait. Parking is not easy in the area and you could be circling around for quite a while lol. But anyways, the shop also offers different drinks but they are always sold out every time I want to try some of the drinks there, especially the Thai iced tea. They also sell different sauces, cookbooks and other snacks inside the shop to add with your sandwiches. Now I got to work hard so that I can buy their other sandwiches LOL.

This place had been on my wish list for a while ever since I seen them on the newspaper. I rarely go to the mission now a days but was in the area today and was finally able to try their sandwich. Banh mi is literally my favorite quick food to eat so was so excited to try this place. I am comparing this to all if the banh mi I ever had in my life including all of the ones in San Francisco Bay Area including San Jose, Oakland, sf and even including my travels to different city and in Vietnam. I ordered the French dip and the popular CP #3. The French dip was amazzzzing like 10/10. Meat was tender and the broth was flavorful. It had the perfect amount of horseradish accompanied with a side of pho flavor dipping sauce. The CP #3 was really disappointing. There was barely any meat on it, flavor was bland. This was below average compared to lots of banh mi that I've had. $20 for this was overpriced but for the French dip I felt that the priced was justified. Service was quick and the cashier was friendly. I like the decor of the place and thought that it was very simple yet classy. Overall I would return for the French dip but do not recommend the CP #3.

Ordered via Doordash! I got the vietnamese iced coffee and the C.P.ms No. 3 Sandwich, which is their sandwich that's closest to the classic banh mi. Although expensive for banh mi, you'd be paying this amount for Italian deli sandwiches, so don't think too much about that...They make their vietnamese baguette in-house and it's super delicious! The outside is crisp though the inside is fluffy. My biggest gripe with banh mi is that typically the baguette scratches the roof of my mouth, but that wasn't the case here (which I LOVE!) They give fresh herbs and generous portions of meat. The vietnamese iced coffee was pretty strong and bitter, and I wish there was an option to make it on the sweeter side by adjusting the level of condensed milk.

Not usually a huge fan of Viet sando but this one isnt your average. Their bun is freshly made, crispy on the outside, delicate and soft on the inside. Highly recommend the pork belly sandwich. not too fatty nor too lean.
