Whenever I see escargot on the menu, that's always my favorite option to get, the escargot here was so garlicky and delicious. My only issue is the fact it's stuck in the shell and I had 4 which couldn't even come out of the shell, so I had to break it up with my hand which cut me a little. It was still delicious but extremely inconvenient. Meanwhile the tartare had a nice little bite to it, the beef tasted fresh and high quality, perfectly complimented with a crispy slice of baguette. It's a cozy size inside with great service which tried helping with my escargot issue, but to no avail. My second visit was just as good with the food and service, I had chosen the Croque Madame, which I found to be good, a solid 8/10- in the past I've had them sweeter which I was expecting. This was more savory than sweet.

I walked in with a girlfriend on a Friday night for a girls night out. I wish we came a bit earlier because there was a wait for a table inside and the space is considerably small. We settled on a table outside and enjoyed a good meal. My Thai mussels and fries were good and my friend ordered her usual- the hamburger. We loved the crepe for dinner along with our drinks throughout our meal. Overall, the food is great and I would come back and try more of the menu- especially the french onion soup, escargot, and other entrees. There was an incident where a homeless man on the street kept bothering the tables outside, but we appreciated how quickly and appropriately the hostess addressed the situation. Will definitely arrive earlier for an inside table next time.

This place was so good! Small indoor space but plenty of outdoor space. Quick service and delicious food!French onion soup: 10/10One of the best I've had. Delicious cheese and not too salty.Mac and cheese: 9/10Delicious flavor and actually had the flavor of the cheese and wasn't just cream. The crispy top was nice too.Truffle fries: 9/10Yum! Warm and crispy with delicious aioli.Niçoise Salad: 9/10Huge salad and delicious. Very great flavors and fresh ingredients. Should be shared if it's a starter because of the size. The olive tapenade was super tasty.CROQUE MONSIEUR: 9.5/10Delicious! Perfectly cheesy.PETRALE SOLE MEUNIERE: 9/10Very light and flakey. Not overdone with any sauce. Delicate dish.WARM CHOCOLATE FONDANT: 8/10This was good but points off for not coming with whipped cream or ice cream. The chocolate cake is dense and needs something to cut it. It also came out flat, and you can tell it's not fresh. The crème that does come with it was just a few strokes of sauce. Disappointing way to end the meal.

Service is still friendly, but they've stopped giving free bread and butter as starters. But food is still well made and tasty. Started with the cream of artichoke soup. Truffle oil was drizzled on top which could potentially block out the artichoke flavor, but I was still able to taste it. And tried out their burger with fries. For $3 more, I also added roquefort and it was worth it. They give such a huge dollop. The burger comes on a ciabatta bun with caramelized onions and tomatoes on the side. The burger was so juicy I burned myself with the drippings. Although it's a good burger, the ciabatta bun takes away from the flavor so I couldn't bother finishing my patty. But the caramelized onions always came in to revitalize my tastebuds. Fries could be crisper, but the aioli it comes with is good. Still a solid spot in Hayes Valley.

Really enjoyed this French spot in Hayes Valley! Super convenient with indoor and outdoor options (with heating) for seating. Came at 12 on Sunday and there were tables open for easy walk-in. 30 minutes later the line was 1.5 hours though, so it does pick up quickly. Space is quaint and cozy and waiters are always running around from place to place quickly. Food itself was very yummy! Moules and escargot are a must.

Came here for Friday 6pm dinner before the symphony. (They used to close later so I would come after concerts, but Covid changed all that... now they close at 10)Loved, loved, LOVED the escargot, the moules, and the fettucine carbonara. Pro-Tip: make sure you also order the $4 French baquette for soaking up all that moules broth heavenly goodness.

Such a delightful and affordable place! Came here on a Friday at noon for lunch, and there was plenty of seating but also many customers. Ambiance inside is delightful and warm (though tables were a bit crowded inside. My friend and I got the arugula and goat cheese salad and a croque madam to share.Arugula and goat cheese salad: 5/5, so great! The crispy outside of the goat cheese was so nice, and the arugula had the right amount of dressing without being oversaturated. The caramelized onions were also lovely! Great portion size.Croque madam: 5/5, perfect runny yolk on the egg and toasted to perfection! A good amount of cheese on top, and the proportion of ingredients was great. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, and our food came out relatively fast. It was so affordable as well -- we left full but only paid ~$20 including tip for nice French food! Would definitely come here again.

I've been to Chez Maman a number of times, and it is always a solid choice. It's one of those great everyday dining options. On the vibe, funny enough, I've only ever dined outdoors here. It's very much like what you expect from a French bistro. The service has also always been good, but not particularly memorable. That's not a criticism-sometimes not remembering the service is a testament to how smoothly things have gone. The menu has all the things I look for in a French restaurant-escargot, Niçoise salad, duck confit, chocolate fondant and chocolate mousse. During my last visit, I had the Niçoise salad. My friends had the mushroom crepe and the mussels. The Niçoise salad is a generous size and very filling because I was so hungry. The only thing I'd note on this salad is that the tuna was a little more fishy than I prefer. It did eat it and it wasn't bad, it just would have been better if it was a little fresher. My friends enjoyed their entrees. One thing to note about the savory crepes is that they are made with buckwheat, which has an earthy flavor (think-flavor of soba noodles) that might surprise you if you aren't prepared for it. This is the traditional way to serve savory crepes in France. Overall, this is a really solid spot for a lunch or dinner if you are in Hayes Valley.
