I love this place so much! The food and service is amazing. We tried the Vietnamese coffee and banh mi. The banh mi bread was SO good - it's actually fresh baked. We got the Lemongrass Pork and BBQ Pork Egg flavors. Would recommend both but the Lemongrass Pork was my absolute favorite!! The coffee was strong and not too sweet.The service is excellent!! They are so friendly and fast. The food is reasonably priced as well. Castro tarts is truly a local gem.

It's difficult to know exactly what I was thinking when I awarded Castro Tarts only 3 stars in my earlier (2016) review. Despite the presence of that "people love us on yelp" sticker and Jane Wiedlin (of Go Go's fame) declaring it a favorite, I likely felt I'd tried too little of the menu to rate it more highly. Now, all these years later I'm here to make up for that oversight. 22 yelp check-ins should be adequate evidence that I really like this casual, welcoming cafe. Every time I come, I stare at everything being delivered to other tables, eyeball that big menu with its still very reasonable prices, and decide I want the fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls which have never once failed to delight. For their consistency and all of the other assets mentioned above, these 4 stars are long overdue.

Castro Tarts is one of my favorite spots for Bánh Mi in the city! Their house-made bread elevates every sandwich, and that same dedication to quality is reflected in everything they serve. The Vietnamese Rice Plate is another standout--fresh, flavorful, and made with care. As a family-owned business with deep community ties, they bring a warmth that makes this place feel welcoming beyond just the food.

I came here for the first time on Tursday 1/25/2024. This is very tiny resturant . The employees are sweet and friendly . They hava boty inside and ourside siiting area. I ordered their house special . The lady behind the counter chsrged me on her own for tips which I didnt apprecite. The food was not to my expectation . The ricecwas very dry and the taste was not thst great . Maybe i picked the wrong item. I will go back another time to order something else .

Castro tart is definitely a gayborhood GEM. The food delicious and consistent and reasonably priced. The service and their hospitality is so warm and charming. Castro tart is definitely a local favorite and staple to our community. The vibe here is so relaxing complemented with quality food. I recommend this place to everyone and enjoy have dates , friend brunches and even enjoying bring my family here. . Thank you so much Castro tarts ! I can't wait to try some yummy dessert. O YES , I am pescatarian and my go to order is the lemon grass banh mi sandwich ( I substitute the chicken for fried egg and avocado it's my favorite breakfast sandwich in San Francisco).thank me later

A Dolores Park picnic requires picnic food, so we called ahead to order some bahn mi sandwiches and fresh roles from Castro Tarts. They quickly prepared our order and it was ready as soon as we stopped in to pick it up. Service was friendly and the gentleman at the counter was so kind! It seemed like he knew a lot of the people coming in and I loved the local feel of this small shop. Bahn mi sandwiches are my favorite! The bahn mi sandwiches were good, but they lacked some flavor. They were a little bland in my opinion and required sriracha to spice them up! Same with the fresh rolls. I would get them again, because they definitely satisfied a craving I was having, but I would have liked a little more flavor in the protein options.I would still highly recommend supporting Castro Tarts!

What a gem of a place. From the minute you walk in you are greeted with a smile both on the staff and patrons. Everyone is there to enjoy. And enjoy you will. From the Vietnamese standbys to the French influence they are of the highest caliber. Treat yourself to an unassuming neighborhood treasure!

Was recommended to try this place by an employee at a nearby store, and I'm glad he did. Lunch on a weekday was less than $20, and my banh mi sandwich and Vietnamese iced coffee were delicious. Very friendly staff, I heard them greeting other patrons by name. Very cute spot for lunch.

Ginger Chicken Bahn Mi! The only place I have ever seen this on the menu. It's the best Bahn mi ever. I order it no mayo. Believe me I've been coming here for 20 years for this sandwich!

This is such a gem of a restaurant. The food is simple but affordable and the owners who run the place are so kind. I really like their lemongrass chicken banh mi, which is less than $10. It's also a great spot to sit outside on a nice day and take in the street scene.
