Got some food to-go:Combo Valencio: 3.5/5The fried rice was okay but I do wish it had a bit more umami or salt (personal preference). The rotisserie chicken was perfectly juicy and salty though! The accompanying coleslaw was a refreshing break from the savory dish.Sweet & Sour Pork Chop; 4.7/5. More sweet than sour. Either way, it was good! Very tender pork enveloped by a crunchy flavorful batter. Vegetarian Lumpia: 2/5. Filled with vermicelli and mushrooms. This was really lacking in any flavor; I wish there was some sort of dipping sauce to go with it. Otherwise the skin was nice and crisp!Hot & Sour Soup: 2/5. The spice really overpowered every other flavor typically found in a hot & sour soup. Empanada de Carne Molida: 4/5. Nice thick dough, and a pocketful of yummy juicy beef.Service: Customer service was rather curt but not downright rude or anything.Overall: Not sure I'd eat here again. The quality of food was either a hit (the Venezuelan food) or a miss (the Cantonese food) and the customer service was just okay. Not to mention parking is pretty difficult in this area.

4 days of eats in SF and we came here twice for lunch with two different mates. Enjoyed it immensely. There is something for everyone here including a wide variety of proteins!I went with the roast pork and rice both days and added in a side of plantains. I joked that the plantains were how my Asian mom would make as they were lightly pan fried and not deep fried the way Cubans or Puerto Ricans make them. Staff was friendly although on the second day slow- could be they were short staffed. Plenty of seating. Do be mindful of your surroundings coming in.

First time at Cantoo and excited to try the Venezolano/Chinese fusion. We went on a Thursday night for dinner and there were a few people, dining and plenty of seating. We were sat down immediately. We ordered the croquetas de camaron, the combo Valenciano we had seen on TikTok and the noodles with roasted duck. Everything is price pointed pretty decently and I would say the food tasted very "home-y) like my mom making food. Our croquetas came out first and were fresh and hot. The waitress told us to pair with their sweet and sour sauce. They also have a green aioli sauce and we put that on our chicken and noodles and the aioli brought out more of of the smokiness in the rotisserie chicken. I really enjoyed the fusion of flavors and am excited to try more menu options. We saw so many workers picking up DoorDash so we can see the place is well known.

Was in the area, craving soup on a rainy day, so decided to order pickup. WHen the order was ready, quickly parked outside, ran in to grab it, and left. There is street parking on the road but note the signage as I almost got a ticket for a random 4-6pm no parking. About 15 min to get home and the food held up well.Crema de maiz is one of my favorite dishes here. A comforting corn soup that is enough for two people to share. Sweet and sour pork chops is another favorite dish. Their sweet and sour sauce is unlike any other. It's not overly sweet. More like savory and lightly sweet. Best sweet and sour I've had. Meat is tender. Tried their fried cheese for the first time which was a delicious side dish. A block of lightly fried cheese that is kinda like eating a string cheese in texture, but better.Always gotta get their homemade limeade which is refreshing and sweet. While I typically dine in here, ordering to go pick up was convenient and just as good.

Very unique (for this part of the world), Chinese Venezuelan food. Seems like the rotisserie chicken is the most popular thing to get. Though the appetizers are really interesting too.Croqueta de Cangreos: Looks pretty cool for sure, unlike other Chinese appetizers. Though it seemed overly bready and all that dough really soaked up the frying grease. Plus the inside was fake crab. Though the sweet and sour dipping sauce was nice.Empanada con Pabellón: Looks more Venezuelan than Chinese. Chewy fried empanada dough with shredded beef, black beans and cheese inside. The green creamy sauce on the table went really well with this.Rotisserie Chicken - Combo Valenciano: One of the best deals in town. Deliciously marinated tender roast chicken. Lots of flavorful fried rice. Plus some really nice sauces. The popular agridulce and a nice creamy garlic sauce.Pollo Agridulce: Apparently one of those most popular Chinese dishes in Venezuela. It reminds me of orange chicken, but a lot more red looking. Definitely more sweet than sour, though there are some subtle sour undertones. Really liked the crispy texture, which softens a little under the nice glaze. Perhaps a tad high in sodium, since I was quite thirsty for a few hours afterwards.Arroz Especial: Like the veggie fried rice that came with the rotisserie chicken, but with some meat chunks in the mix too. Lots of flavor. Enough meat to be noticeable, but not so much that it clashes as a side to a meat dish.

TLDR: Fusion done right! Well controlled flavors, JUICY chicken, and all at an affordable price tag! - - - - - - I was introduced to Cantoo by a friend and was I pleasantly surprised! I wasn't sure what to expect but was glad to have a thorough description in Cantonese, eventually settling on their C1 (Combo Valenciano) and G1 Empanada de Pobellon (w/ stewed shredded beef, black beans, cheese). The initial interaction was comical when the staff member placed a pitcher of water without a cup. A cup was later provided, and once the Combo Valenciano arrived, I deconstructed it like a child playing with their food. The chicken was tender, JUICY - imagine very moist but not soggy - brined well with a crispy skin. Their green sauce had garlic and may be inspired by the Cantonese ginger scallion dipping oil, and their red sauce was a sweet and sour sauce - both very yummy! Beside the chicken laid their vegetarian fried rice, similar to Cantonese "soy sauce king" fried rice, and did that have a noticeable "wok air." Even the coleslaw - a dish I don't often enjoy - was very enjoyable here, the flavors light, dressing appropriate and not drenched. Chicken drumsticks are my least favorite and even that was gobbled up! Their Empanada de Pobellon was delicious as well, with the shredded beef having a tender texture and feel. What's amazing was how this was left out for 30 minutes, and it tasted as if it were still fresh out of the oven! Overall, impressive service and control of flavors. The perfect and light seasoning of many dishes is reminiscent of traditional Cantonese accents.

Sometimes I travel so I can immerse myself in the local cuisines and traditions. And other times I find local restaurants that remind me of those odysseys. My first pilgrimage to Cantoo Latin Asian Rotisserie let me wander and explore two cuisines and countries at the same time - Venezuela and China.I can hardly wait to go back.I stopped off on my way to see Richard Thompson at the Fillmore. The menu is pretty extensive and there are so many different soups, appetizers, rotisserie chickens, B.B.Q. pork ribs dishes and clay pots. The list and unique combinations were endless and a bit overwhelming.I ordered a Empanada con Carne Mechada: Deep fried corn flour empanada with Venezuelan shredded beef. and Chili Oil Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings: Home made pork dumplings! Made from scratch, starting from grinding the meat, to seasoning the filling of the dumplings. Both were so good. The Empanada had flavors of sweet corn filled with a rich shredded beef. The Pork Dumplings were fresh and tasty. The chili oil gives the dumpling's the right amount of heat and made my tongue sing.Service was so kind, friendly and efficient. I know I just scratched the surface of this gem. While located in the Tenderloin, the street is alive with people and automobiles. I felt completely safe. Matt says if you are anywhere near O'Farrell St - maybe near Union Square or on your way to the Great American Music Hall, take a Lyft or the 38 (R) Muni and let yourself travel to China and Venezuela and explore the amazing and creative foods of those countries.
