Hubs has been craving banh mi and is trying to hit up as many different spots as he can. This time, we tried California Bakery.Although I want to try their other bakery items, we just ordered the banh mi during our visit. We went with the combination, which was filled with veggies, meat and pate. The bread was also light and crispy. Must say, it was a good sandwich and quite filling. The owner was friendly. Can't wait to return to try their other items.

Dang. We were so hungry, I forgot photos. Doing some morning errands and nothing usually open yet to grab to eat but stumbled upon this place! I remembered seeing some friends post about their banh mi being pretty good and nicely stuffed. So we placed an order for the sandwiches over the phone and ordered on the spot for the rest of the things they had. Combo banh mi - solid. Indeed nicely filled and satisfying. Who needs to go all the way to the ghetto or San Jose. LolPork banh mi - not bad. A little salty but also filling and satisfying. Meat pie - we warmed it up at home and mmmm flaky, buttery and the meat was hefty and juicy. Dozen donut holes and a custard maple donut for the kids and hubs. Definitely a local spot, glad to see they're doing alright. Cute that they get the kids who just finish karate or bjj ordering. Service was friendly and quick. Your no-frills Asian bakery. But mostly meat pies, empanadas, and breakfast sandwiches. Don't expect the Asian baos, dim sum stuff.

Stopped by right before they closed to pick up banh mi and some meat pies. Parking was not bad off to the side streets from taravel. Ambiance is same as old donut shop that was located there previously. When i arrived, the staff was welcoming and told me not to worry and can always call ahead to let them know and they will wait and make order while i drive. There were special meat pies today (beef curry in addition to the regular pork). I got both to indulge in. The banh mi combo has lots of meat, pickled veggies and thick pate. $9.50 each and with meat pies at $3.95 each, total came to $17-ish. Everything was tasty. Will definitely return.

Fresh and tasty donuts. Very friendly service, always. Local mom & pop shop. Maple, custard, sprinkles, original glazed, and cake donuts are tasty - okay I am not fussy! Breakfast sandwiches, savory pastries, and coffee.

Their sausage and egg pastiches/empanadas are to die for. The beef curry pastries are very good too. Plus, as a bonus, the people that work here are super nice. Going to have to start coming here more frequently to support a quality local business.

This place is fantastic with tasty banh mi's (so far the best I've tried in SF) at good prices and a nice assortment of pastries and beverages. It's the perfect stop for a quick brekkie on the go. The couple who run this place are super friendly and put a lot of effort into making sure everything is as fresh as possible, which is evident by the quality of the food I got here.

I really rate this myself as a 3.5. Nothing wrong with it. Fresh, friendly. What nudged it to a 4 was all the police fitting into their stereotype, eating doughnuts. I found it on the Toogoodtogo app. It located about a block of the 28 bus stop and boy, Taravel is alot further south than I thought it was. It is across from the Safeway, and when I was there, there was major street construction going on. The L line now stops at West Portal and you have to take the L bus. That is a hassle. If I was in the area and wanted traditional doughnuts, I'd come here. I guess I was hoping, since someone said it was a Vietnamese bakery, they might have something a little different. Very good traditional doughnuts but nothing that I can't get in my neighborhood. If you live in the area, support local businesses. That area is TORN UP!

I only recently discovered California Bakery when doing a search online for Vietnamese sandwiches.I tried their tofu and chicken Vietnamese sandwiches and both are really good. It's quite tasty. For the price, you get a lot and it's filling.I also tried their donuts for some sweetness and they were yummy. All the staff are super nice and helpful, offering recommendations when I asked. Plus, I'm big on supporting small businesses and will definitely be back! Please check out this cute bakery if you are in the area!
