They switch it up daily with what is best. You can definitely get a few days to up to a week's worth of groceries for under $10 here. Don't let the name of this place fool you either... It's not Thai, at all. It's a big mix of Latin and Asian groceries. The ladies who work here are quick and efficient as hell. I've heard them speak English, Cantonese, AND Spanish - all fluently. Plus they're super nice I haven't bought any meat yet, but the prices seemed fair. I will probably come back for oxtail because those bad boys were huge, meaty, and a good amount of fat on 'em. They have fresh chicharrones at the counter too, but I haven't tried."

Chifa has Chinese origins in Lima Peru. Ethnic Chinese that immigrated to Peru. When I was in Lima several years ago, the local tour guide said Chinese moms would shout out to their kids to come in to eat. In Cantonese Chifa translates to "eat rice". I needed aji Amarillo chili pepper paste. The cooking class suggested buying it on Amazon. But hey I live in San Francisco where there are many diverse ethnic groups. Sure enough I did a Google. It said Casa Lucas has a good variety of Latin American food products including Peruvian. I took a snapshot of the aji Amarillo chili pepper paste. Went into the grocery store. Showed them my snapshot. Bingo. Got my jar of aji for 50% less than Amazon price."

Mike C. "When you run out of garlic at home and run low on light soy sauce, where would I go?Yes, this is the answer for me on Sunday Labor Day weekend morning. I typically avoid shopping on Ocean Ave since parking can be challenging. With the gentrification of the neighborhood and the influx of Chinese businesses to cater those who live in the area, the foot traffic and business atmosphere has starkly improved in recent years. Used to be, my only reasons for coming to Ocean were McD's, CVS (now closed), and, back in the day, Church's Fried Chicken (long gone and missed).I found parking about a half a block away a little after 9 am and walked by several businesses that were mostly closed or about to open, restaurants and a hardware store respectively. As I walked in, I noticed the butcher counter to the left and some self-serve refrigerators across with bottled goods on shelves just above them. There is only one aisle to the right and the cashier counter is to the immediate right by the window. In shopping here, do be mindful of your surroundings as they are often restocking the meat counters and fish tanks as well as hauling ice. I found my two shopping items within three minutes and was out of here in about five minutes. A gentleman was buying a couple of live fish, likely for a restaurant as he requested a written receipt for tax reporting purposes.I came here once a few years ago on a holiday to buy something that I needed to cook lunch so it wasn't my first visit. The left gated area (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=x5Zw2VaalFAYeHDrKaAnhg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) seems to be their warehouse/storage area. I was so pleasantly surprised at how clean, spacious and well stocked this place was. The shelves were stocked with all kinds of Latino related products and the fresh meat counter was fairly large. I decided to purchase some snacks here; a couple of Gelatin desserts and a huge loaf of Pan Dulce sweet bread, which were all very delicious. The staff Linda was very friendly and allowed me to take photos of the store for my Yelp Review.I will start coming here more often while on my way to work to buy more snacks and probably some fresh fruit, such as avocadoes or mangoes. I found the canned corn (middle of the aisle & middle shelf, almost sold out) but for the life of me, I couldn't find the canned quail eggs. I walked a few aisles to find a employee and asked if he knew where or if they have anymore, and he walked with me back to the aisle and pointed to the BOTTOM OF THE SHELF at the first row. Like .. no one is going to see that! But I so appreciated his help! I used their vegetable bags to hold the ladle to scoop my clams and another bag to hold the basket. They usually yell at us to not waste their bags but ... what do you expect me to do? Get my hands wet and dirty?? The guy that helped weighed my clams gave me 2 extra bags so it wouldn't dirty my own shopping. I wish they had a better spot to put ladles and baskets. I notice the few times I've been here this year, their service is better, esp from the male employees. They're more willing to help and find things and even bring items out from the stockroom for you."

Look no further than Indian Grocery & Liquor located on the border of Noe Valley and Bernal Heights (3 blocks from Mitchell's). On my way home yesterday, I noticed the sign for Samosas but was driving too fast to stop. I decided to pop in today to this brand new, family-owned Indian shop to grab some housemade Samosas. The couple's young daughter is super cute and helpful. When I was perusing the aisles, she came over to ask if I needed help. Very sweet of her. The Samosas ($1.50 each) were still warm with a deliciously flaky exterior. The filling of potatoes and peas were very well-spiced with a good kick.I only had milk tea for lunch so I wish I got more than two! I also got a jar of Patak's Hot Mango Chutney that was reasonably priced at $4.50. Not the best comparison because the imported ethnic products on Amazon are inflated but they're selling the same chutney for $9.49. Selection was a bit sparse as the mango chutney seemed to be the only chutney option I found and there was only one jar of the hot one. They're only a week young so I'm sure they're trying to gauge customer demand and may expand their offerings later. They also sell Indian frozen food (naan, paratha, and curry), lentils, spices, pani puri, Haldiram's nuts & snack mixes (the "all-in-one" mix is hella addictive), ghee, yoghurt, and locally made Mithai (Indian sweets). Most importantly, they sell BOOZE because you deserve to romance the bottle after the long day at work! Jess C. "Casa Guadalupe is supposedly better than its nearby counterpart down the street, Casa Guadalupe #2. I found the variety, freshness of produce, and prices to be comparable, but I would still definitely recommend Guadalupe if you're looking for a clean grocer nearby.TIPS ON SHOPPING AT MEXICAN GROCERS (Warning: I think I shop smart, but may come off sounding a bit like a homeless person):* Amazing prices: Most Mexican grocers are pretty dirty, Casa Guadalupe is an anomaly. Other than that, the prices and produce are good but nothing special compared to other Mexican Marts.* Where to go: My favorite Mexican grocers in the Mission are 24th St. Bart, 16th St Bart, and around 20th (the foreign grocer). Casa would be part of the rotation if it were closer to me. You will find prices a fraction the cost of Safeway or Lucky, and equal or slightly lower in quality / freshness. You won't get the variety or freshness guarantee of top tier grocers like Whole Foods. * What to buy: You have to be flexible with your grocery list at places like these, often they do not carry what you want or if they do, they might be expensive or poor quality. Citrus fruits, tomatoes, bananas, onions, and sometimes garlic are usually safe items to buy and super cheap. Sometimes you will find great deals on organic kale, lettuce, and apples but these items are the ones who don't make it past the standards of higher end grocers (I assume) and are always slightly defective (but still mostly good!). * What not to buy: I would never buy meat at these places (I've smelled rancid meat wafting from their butchery), and be extra discerning about produce like peaches, berries (not organic), and other fruit (apples are ALWAYS bruised or rotten). You will sometimes find great deals on organic apples or veggies, but look out for rotting areas and bruises which are inevitable."

Ed U. "I didn't know about the historical significance of this market until I read about it in the nearby Tenderloin Museum (review: http://bit.ly/2pMwOjA) and how it was and continues to be an essential business for the local Southeast Asian populace who started pouring into the embattled area since the 1970's. You would think the Cambodian proprietors would have expanded their space by now, but no, San Francisco real estate being what it is, the market remains a claustrophobic space where they maximize every square inch with produce and other goods native to that part of the world. You will be on sensory overload. The unique inventory includes jars of pickled eggplant and peppercorns (photo: http://bit.ly/2J1RagV), cans of grass jelly and fruit cocktail (photo: http://bit.ly/2J4epH6), and bunches of plantains (photo: http://bit.ly/2GCdIqm). It's in the deepest part of the 'Loin, so be cautious getting over here, but if you're intent on creating an authentic Thai dinner, I can't think of a market less likely not to have that particular ingredient you desperately need like kaffir lime leaves, fresh galangal, and mangosteens.
