"You know how much I love Simply Cake? I live in Marin County and get my birthday cakes from Simply Cake. That's not to say we don't have amazing bakeries, we do. It's just that Simply Cake makes cakes that I love. One that we've ordered twice now is their Vanilla Crunch Cake. Vanilla sponge cake, whipped cream frosting and filling and a very thin layer of chocolate in between, topped with fresh diced fruit. They are a work of art. Also, the cakes are not cloyingly sweet, they are just right. You can get them in a variety of sizes and considering the quality and presentation the prices are amazingly low. They'll also include small paper plates, forks and a cute little cake spatula. Another treat that I love is their Hokkaido cream dessert. The best I can describe it is similar to angel food cake with vanilla cream at the bottom. The service is great as well. Helpful, kind and efficient. I always make sure to tip well as they deserve it.In addition to cakes they also have a fantastic variety of other baked goods, sweet and savory. My husband loves their savory items so when I'm there I get several and freeze them for later.Go in, get your tray and tongs and take your time browsing. Happiness guaranteed."

I actually found this place from Michelle aka @sfcheatdays, as she posted the cake for her bday!Ordering online was quick and easy and Liz will confirm your order within the next 24 hours. Once my order was confirmed, she included her address and very detailed description of where to stop on her busy street in SF. I actually had to make a change in pickup date and time and Liz was very accommodating! I had requested silver font instead of gold and she was very detail oriented asking if I wanted the topper to be coated in silver as well, since it was usually coated in gold. I appreciate she took the time to ask vs. just doing silver font and gold coating. Pickup was so easy, even though it was a busy day. She dropped off the cake on the floor of my front seat to make sure it was stable as well. Onto the taste of the cake! I ordered the Earl grey with brown sugar icing and it was soooo good! Tasted like a boba milk tea hehe! You need to take the cake out of the fridge at least 2 hours in advance of serving and we did just that. The cake was still a little chilled but so moist and fresh! We were so full after our dinner so we had so much cake left. We followed the instructions to wrap in Saran Wrap and we had delicious cake the next couple days! Also I'm so happy to be supporting an Asian AND woman-owned business in the Bay Area! I highly recommend Liz and her cakes and her customer service is on point! So glad I stumbled across her and can't wait to order more cakes from her in the future!!"

The vanilla-rum flavor is great as well.The buckwheat brownie is another favorite of mine - so fudgy with contrasting cocoa nibs, chocolate bits, and naturally gluten free. Some other hits are the lavender rose bun with pull-apart sugary layers, and the popular passion fruit almond tart.They do a few savory items like the breakfast bread with sundried tomato and aged cheddar, and a fluffy Castelvetrano olive focaccia.I rarely see pistachio milk offered at cafes, but they have it here. I enjoyed it in the rose latte."

If only we had more $$ to drop for our son's bday but priorities!!! Nonetheless, Shirley was able to accommodate my budget and gave me the option of a plain cake with a custom topper. My son's been obsessed with MUNI buses and trains lately so I told her that either one would work. We communicated back and forth through email and Shirley was very prompt in responding. I paid the deposit and the amount due before the time frame. Note that I inquired around the same month of the event date, so somewhat late to the game in planning (I have a feeling some people plan two months in advanced because custom cookies and cakes usually are booked way out in advanced) but it still worked out for me! On the morning of, I picked up the cake and it looked amazing! Shirley's cake tasted great! She let me know that the MUNI bus topper was edible except the label. We chose to have a vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream filling and it tasted amazing! I forgot to take photos of the cross section but this cake was pretty darn yummy. The only feedback I have is that her typed responses can be more formal, with punctuation and less use of acronyms... which will help seem more professional and clear! However I understand that it's her way of expressing herself and it's been working for her... so to each their own, it just irked me as someone who teaches writing!"

I remember my first time ordering with them, I wanted a similar design to a cake I saw on their Yelp photos (it was a picture of I believe Johnny Depp with a thought bubble and a person in it like he got her on his mind, lol). When the delivery came, I noticed something was not quite right. Instead of having Trey Songz in the background, it was Johnny Depp (as shown on the Yelp photo).
