Butter & Crumble has been popping up on social media and foodie news articles, and I must say I agree with them! B&C is located in a residential neighborhood and has limited street parking. The owner, Chef Sophia started B&C during the pandemic and it has grown to it's own pink brick and mortar store, where people are lining up for it up to an hour! I love the whole interior of the store - where you're welcomed by the pastel pink and white color palette, and where you can watch them cut the pastries cause there's a mirror to show everything - beautiful! Check out B&C's Instagram for their menus and updates for the lines. Sophia pours her love into her pastries, and you can taste it when you bite into the flaky croissants. I love that her pastries aren't always the same and it changes seasonally - this is bad when you have a favorite! My go-to's are Morty P, BEC (bacon, egg, cheese) croissant, chocolate cookie, and whatever seasonal items they have (i.e. prime rib croissant!). They also sell the cutest decor and gift items inside the store, as well as coffee (check out their new fancy PINK espresso machine - a dream!). I always buy about 5 pastries here and the prices add up - but can't expect less when you're buying artisan baked goods. See ya in line!

One gloomy Sunday morning, my friend and I decided to line up for one of the buzziest croissants in the Bay Area. Coming from Oakland, I woke up at 7am and found myself in line by 7:40am with a chair and a milk tea. When I got there, I was 6th in line but by the time B&C opened, I was probably 12th as people's friends trickled into the line. When I went, they were doing the Feb menu. I ended up ordering the max number of pastries I could get, 10. Out of all the things I ordered, my fave was the cornflake cookie. While the croissants were delicious, I don't know if it was 2 hours wait delicious...Maybe I also hyped them up in my head too much given the wait, but I thought they were just ok. While the croissants were very flakey and buttery, none of the flavors blew me away. Would I visit again? If there were no lines or I was able to secure a preorder, B&C is something I would add to my bakery rotation. But if I had to wait so long again? Not likely...

3.8 stars. Okay so this might be controversial, but I was underwhelmed by the normal croissant. This sounds weird, but the croissant was too flaky. I think this more comes down to personal preference on how you like your croissants because it was a little too flaky which made it appear dry. I was too late to get any of their special ones (which seem very interesting, and I want to go back to try). I did not have to wait too long because I got there late on a Sunday, but they were pretty much sold out of everything by noon. Personally, I am not the type to wait in line for an hour for a pastry, however, they have really unique flavors which makes this bakery special. Definitely want to try more here!

Came here early on a Saturday morning about half an hour prior to opening as the wait times can be long. I had heard so much about this place on social media and decided to give it a try myself. We came here at about 830, and the line had already wrapped around the corner of the block. I will say the line moved rather quickly once they opened at 9am. We waited a total of 45minutes. We purchased 8 different pastries as outlined below. I love how they have a new menu every month. I would check their instagram page for REAL time updates. Somedays they don't sell out til late afternoon, other days they sell out by 11am. I ordered:Pistachio cardamom sugar croissantRicotta blackberry swirls Twice baked brown butter peaches and creamShort rib pain suisseChocolate espresso praline cruffinChocolate chip cookieBanana breadEach pastry was PICTURE perfect. Some of my favorites were... 1) pistachio cardamom sugar croissant. It was soooo flaky, full of pistachio filling. Normally, when places try to mimic the flavor of pistachio, it often taste artificial or it often lacks flavor and taste like vanilla. They do it right here. 2) Short rib pain suisse, I don't normally favor savory pastries, but WOW! the tender juicy short rib strands go so well with the flaky buttery pastry. Everything was so well made. You can tell the staff really put a lot of time and detail into making these beautiful pastries. Even the pastries that were least liked, were still solid. 10/10 would recommend to everyone to give this place a try.

More like a 3.5 but bumped up to 4. Butter & Crumble has been on my list for awhile. And the line has gotten longer since then. We waited in line at about 8:30 and got our order by 10am. They didn't have their famous prime rib croissant on the menu (slightly disappointed) but they still had everything on the menu in stock for us to order. I would skip the pepperoni pizza swirl next time. It was pretty oily. Normally I love sweet croissants but my favorite was surprising the Morty P. Reminded me of Italy in a nutshell with the pistachio pesto, yum! I thought B&C was worth a try but not sure if I'd come back. They have unique flavors but the croissants weren't outstanding. Arsicault is still my favorite in the city but I definitely had fun catching up with friends while waiting in line for Butter & Crumble!

This girl finally scored a pickup box after several tries! (Pickup order available on Hotplate.)If you manage to grab a box on Hotplate, you can skip the line and head straight to the front to pick it up, unless you want to add something else from the menu, in which case, you'll need to wait in line. My plan was to get there early, and if the line wasn't too crazy, I'd join to grab the steak frites au poivre. But as expected, the line was wrapped around the block, so I didn't even bother.I was able to snag a large box on Hotplate that had 8 pastries. Here's my rating on each one: 1. Roasted Strawberry Cheesecake Cruffin (9/10) 2. Twice Baked Passionfruit Croissant (7/10) 3. Raspberry Almond Pastry (8/10) 4. Herby Mushroom Potato Danish (8/10) 5. Pistachio Cardamom Sugar Croissant (9/10) 6. Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Pain Suisse (7.5/10) 7. Morty P (9/10) 8. Brown Butter Toffee Cornflake Cookie (8/10)And yep, the hype is real. The croissants are buttery and crunchy, packed with amazing flavors. Each pastry is made to perfection, and I almost didn't want to eat them because they looked so pretty. So, the big question! Was it worth trying to grab a box on Hotplate? Yes! But would I wait in line for 2 hours? Probably not. Would I come back? Maybe, once the crowds die down.

Good luck. I came at 8:30am on a Saturday and waited 90 minutes. With a wait that long, I was hoping I wouldn't love what I got that much so I wouldn't have to wait in line ever again.I definitely preferred some items over others, but even the items I liked the least were really solid and delicious. My favorite item was the pepperoni pizza swirl followed by the pecan pain suisse and mango orange vanilla cruffin.I'm hoping lines will die down at least a little bit so I don't have to wait 90 minutes to enjoy it again!

LITERALLY AMAZING!!!!830 Friday Line was already around the corner. Got: Classic CroissantMango Orange Vanilla CruffinMorty P.Twice Baked Dulce Almond Croissant Pepperoni Pizza SwirlBrown Butter Pain Au ChocolatePecan Pain SussiePistachio Cardamom Sugar CroissantThey're so crispy and flakey with amazing flavor profiles. It's so unique too and the best way to describe it is feeling all the love from not only those who made it but in the designing process. There's nothing like this, hence the long lines and selling out before 12PM most days!! It's a very well deserved hype that they lived up to.It's small inside, 2 seats at a counter to sit at but other than that suggest taking it to go! It's so warm inside and the smells waft all the way to a couple houses down, makes you never wanna leave! Love the rotational menu every month, keeps everyone wanting more, and probably how people stay addicted to Butter and Crumble!

It's a good thing they have a little library next to the line so you can read a few books while you wait. Yeah the line is that long but also actually worth it. My specific recommendations probably won't do you too much good since I think they mix it up all the time, but the orange rosemary sugar pastry was one of the best pastries I have ever had. It was the perfect carmelized and crispy outside with light and fluffy inside. The aftertaste had complexity of the orange and rosemary that normal pastries don't have and it wasn't overly sweat. If it is still OK the menu when I go back eventually I will get 5. The other two sweat ones we got were really good as well with the mango orange cruffin having a tangy sweat inside and fluffy sweat outside. The pistachio crasont had a nice creamy pistachio filling but the outside was a bit too airy and flaky for me. The final one we got was the miso mushroom croquiche. While it was savory I actually was hoping for stronger miso/,mushroom flavor on this and less airy dough. The line took probably 30 to 45 minutes even in the rain but I still would go back.

Such delicious pastries! At first I thought this was all hype. I had to find out for myself. I came on a Friday at 11 am. No line, however a lot of the pastries sold out. I got to try the banana bread, pizza pastry, pecan pastry, orange rosemary sugar pastry. The pizza pastry and the orange rosemary pastry were my favorite. Love me a savory, flakey pastry. Everything else was good too. 3 max for any single pastry. They're pretty strict about not allowing a 4th. Order in advance and you can pick up your box asap. I'm looking forward to stopping by earlier next time.
