It was a pleasure to discover this restaurant that recently opened on Divisadero. French onion soup was of solid quality, a very appropriate option for a cool January afternoon/ evening. The Branzino was cooked to perfection: flavorful. The chocolate dessert tasted very good. The staff was very attentive and helpful. Definitely going back!

I previously tried La Sarrasine before it rebranded to Bistro la Chaumiere. Came by in the middle of the week during a quick break to try the strawberry Nutella (or was it Chocolate?) crepe with vanilla ice cream. The crepe was good, not too thick, very sweet with the chocolate or Nutella filling. Ice cream was perfect accompaniment. Tea was great to help with the sweetness. I sat by the window toward the front with some tea. Felt very civilized and content. I should do this again when I have the time I think to myself. Maybe try other things on the menu. Ambiance quiet and service was good.Located on Divisadero and Hayes.

My friend and I stopped in for an early evening meal yesterday. The restaurant is closed until 5pm. She brought us here to try some crepes but in the evening no crepes are served. A revamp of the evening menu after re-opening from its former life under a different name. The ambiance is cosy with white bistro chairs, small tables and a banquette against a wall.Upon entering, the head waiter then told us ALL the seats in the restaurant were reserved. The front window bistro seating was the only seats available... (we sat and ate our food with more than half of the restaurant still empty when we left...not good). My companion was eager to try a Normandy cider (alcohol) and she got a glass. She enjoyed it.The food: we chose French soupe à l'oignon and two appetizers to share: the prawns plate and blistered Brussels sprouts. The soupe ($11) was good. The gruyère cheese was melted on top of chunks of country bread and the broth was flavorful and not overly salty like most places. The bowl was a bit small. The prawns appetizer ended up to be 4 prawns on a full-sized plate with a rémoulade sauce ($17). The prawns were tasty yet a little over cooked. When overcooked, prawns become hard, as was the case. The Brussels sprouts dish ($11) was a big bowl of the veggies! Biting a small round, it was creamy inside and a bit smoky with crisp bits. Tasty. The service was prompt with staff refilling water glasses and quickly clearing empty plates.Overall, the restaurant was okay (not great) but expensive. The cost of the glass of cider, two soups and two apps plus tax and a surcharge for using a credit card brought the total to $70.I haven't eaten out along the Divisadero corridor of NoPa for a long time. It's a very popular area, but I think the food at Bistro La Chaumière neither impressed me nor justified the cost. Since I just returned a few weeks ago from Paris where I found dining out more reasonably priced, generous and flavorful, I will not be returning to this bistro.

On a cold day in SF, we were craving a nice brunch and were excited to find a place serving French crepes. I generally get pretty excited by Crepes! I've had French crepes before and I thought the food here was pretty decent - 3/5. We ordered two savory crepes - one of the Poulet and one of the Florentine. According to the menu, the Poulet was supposed to come with some Pesto sauce too but there wasn't any. I felt it was also a tad too oily for my liking. It was pretty light on filling otherwise - the chicken was pretty minimal for the price, which I felt was also on the higher side!In addition we also got a French Onion soup to share. I haven't had one before, but it was a bad too cheesy for my liking!

The charming atmosphere cannot do anything for an average meal at best. The burger buns crumbling on the plate signal an old bread and the merguez (spicy sausage of lamb and beef) is lacking flavor. While you the galette (buckwheat crepe) is cooked perfectly, the rest of what we tasted remained unremarkable at best. Service was good though.

We had 2 meals at the Bistro this the past week- lunch and dinner. The hard-to-find buckwheat crepes with a side order of brussel sprouts and a glass of wine made a perfect mid afternoon lunch. For dinner, the branzino was perfectly prepared. The onion soup matched that of a good Parisienne bistro. The service matched the quality of the food. The ambience was lovely- understated, casual and quiet. This restaurant looked like it had been around and enjoyed for years.Highly recommended.
