Recently walked past the SF Jazz center on my way to another place, and noticed Andina. Inquired within and realized they had been here a year already. Even though I work nearby, I felt like there are plenty of places I haven't been yet.Andina serves Venezuelan comfort food, but on that day, I did not want to eat arepas. Instead, I opted for the Pollo Bowl and added an egg thinking it wasn't enough food. Wrong! I honestly didn't even need the egg because it came with a really nice portion of chicken, rice, beans, slaw, and plantains. Wow. And it was delicious. I also got a glass of Jamaica after they told me they make it with Stevia instead of sugar, which is perfect for those of us trying to cut down on sugar. Definitely will come back and try other things.Although their official address is on Franklin inside SF Jazz, its door is really located on Fell St.

A very good choice for lunch or for dinner around the Civic Center area. I went yesterday for lunch and I tried the bowl with the beef, while my husband the one with pork. If you're hungry you have to order the bowl because the portion is very big (I was very full at the end). The bowl comes with the meat you choose, the rice, beans and plantain...delicious! The next time I'd like to try the arepa, because I really liked the place, quiet and friendly! Also the people in there is from Venezuela, so they know how to prepare their food! Ambiance

tldr; delightful lesser known gem, amazing food and delightful ambience. No waiters, order at the counter and food is served.Decided to check this place out on a Sunday afternoon while shopping for furniture at the nearby Bedroom & More. It's not too far, and it has a really modern glass wood and marble feel. I arrived at around 12pm, and it wasn't too crowded. It started to fill up at around 12:30.Their specialties are Arepas - I ordered the Arepa Pabellon on recommendation by the counter staff, with a side of Yucca fries. I also got the Auga de Jamaica as a drink (iced hibiscus tea)Yucca fries (5/5) - delicious! These were beautifully prepared, crispy and solid but not too heavy. It came with 2 different sauces, a pink and green one. Overall I preferred the green one, which was more savory.Arepa Pabellon (4.5/5) - outstanding! It's a beautiful mesh of flavors - shredded beef , cheese and avocado . The only reason I don't give it a full 5 is that it's a lot more filling that most would expect, given the small size! Don't underestimate it, the combination of rich ingredients is amazing, but you'll get full fast!Agua de Jamaica (4/5) - very nice! I enjoyed the cooling flavor. It's slight tangy, but not too much.Overall I've had a good time here, and would definitely come back if I happen to be in the neighborhood anytime soon.

A relatively new addition to the Farmers Market at the Ferry Building on Saturdays. Specializing in Venezuelan snacks, though apparently they don't make my favorite, tequeños, for the farmers market. All nice quality and tasty.Hallaca: Hearty tamale with lots of masa and chicken. No salsa options though, just olive oil and big brand hot sauce. Though I'm fine just eating it plain.Guava & Cheese Pastel: Lots of great guava jam in a crispy fried shell. The cheese was kinda squeaky, since it was served cold. Still great flavor combo.

The very best!!! The empanada was amazing, and so was the chupe. Loved the place they have in Hayes Valley and food came out pretty quickly. Looking forward to going back for some venezuelan brunch on the weekend

I had takeout delivered and it lived up to my expectations. I had the chicken bowl and a variety of empanadas. I lovvvvveeeed the cheese empanada. It was delicious and was exactly what I was hoping for. I highly recommend. The guava empanada was also very tasty. It's definitely more of a dessert one. Everything else was delicious. If I had to go back, I'd try some of the other dishes and definitely get another cheese empanada.
