I live in the area and for years I said to myself that I wished there was a good local bar. Each one I tried (Blarney Stone, Hockey Haven, Bitter End) had some good attributes but none felt -- homey. But the last time I went to the 540, I realized it had become my preferred go-to, because:it's about the people. Locals frequent it, no techbros, no attitude, just regular regulars. It's owner-operated with a small staff that you can get to know over time (Kevin & Ben stand out), although there have been adds and drops. Friendly, fast, and courteous. Full-service bar, a lot of choices on draft, and one bespoke, rotating cocktail on tap at all times. You can get an industry special beer & shot for $10. Or, a Mystery Shot for $5. I tried it a few times and all were winners. This is not a guarantee. There's outdoor seating in a small patio facing Clement St., 2-3 tables and almost always one is available. It was good in its previous incarnation that didn't survive the pandemic shutdown. But now it is remodeled in a way that respected the previous layout while upgrading the facilities, and the new owners have created a vibe that's accepting and chill. It's my local.

Noticed some pinball machines in here during a stroll after the Clement St Farmer's Market. Didn't have a drink, but the place was clean and looked like a great dive bar. Pinball machines were new and in good condition, they took dollar bills and the place even had a quarter machine. Will be back!

Came in to get an Irish coffee. The bartender gave me some other drink and charged me $20. When I told her it wasn't an Irish coffee, she wouldn't believe me when I told her how to make one with Jameson (or Irish whiskey), sugar, coffee with a cream floater. The place is full of depressed workers and people.

Awesome dive bar with classic games and a modern jukebox you can pick a tune from. Bartender is welcoming and friendly. One of the few places I've been that have Death and Taxes beer. Love their inclusivity sign for the bathroom. Lots of TVs. Wouldn't mind coming here again to chill or catch a sports game.

This is a classic dive bar. Good drinks. But not for an early date night. Kind of a place you end up after a few cocktails that's comfortable. When I came out was around 630 so drinks and service was super quick.

I was waiting for my order or dumplings to be ready and I figured I get a pint. It was my first time in 540 and I enjoyed my wait. I'll have to come back in the PM but I must say the bartender working the mid shift was great. There were planets of tv s to catch any sporting event or in this case an odd but fun mix of Star Wars and the Kentucky Derby. Cheers

540 Rogues is a new bar and hangout in the Richmond on Clement St. The space is modern, chic and very welcoming. On the evening I first visited, they had a taco truck outside and DJ -- they have cool things planned for other nights. The bar is very spacious with ample seating. It's a great place for pre-dinner or post-dinner drinks, or to bring a group. The space was very clean (including the bathrooms). There are TVs all around for catching the game, and special deals when the Giants are playing. We tried one of their draft beers -- super fresh and satisfying. With the large space, the bar has added a great selection of arcade games, some retro and some more current. There's also a juke box to select your favorite tunes from. A new neighborhood favorite!

Inclusive, welcoming bar that helps to create a community vibe. Potlucks, chili cook off contests and neat art shows. Also welcoming to out of towners, folks new to the hood, and anyone looking for a well made drink, or a beer and a shot.A true SF bar where you might just meet an old hippie, a down to earth tech bro, a townie, a transplant, a punk rock legend, or your new best friend.Real SF.
