Support local. These words ring loud under the current business environment for companies struggling through these trying times. A La Cocina partner, this South Bay based bakery makes a variety of Indonesian sweets. As I walked up on a Saturday Ferry Farmers Market, the couple introduced themselves and shared their company's background. They mentioned their signature dish which is their 1000 layer cake (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=5FqlOJ386AQsyabaWMmlKw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); the texture is hard to describe as it was quite melt-in-mouth soft nor chewy; the flavors were okay but didn't really wow me. The nice part was that it wasn't overly sweet. I also tried their mochi brownie (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=HenjuIgYnaLbB-58DaT0qQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); I enjoyed this a little more as it was marshmallow soft and chewy, and again not overly sweet.I stopped by again last Saturday to take a look at their other offerings but found another vendor at this market location. There was a separate La Cocina beside them in case you have questions for them. Applauding the effort in trying to expand their business under these conditions.

A new stand at the Ferry Building Farmers Market on Saturdays. Pretty narrow menu of sweets, but what they do serve is really tasty. Especially the 1000 Layer Cake; you can't skip that!1000 Layer Cake: Always try the eponymous menu item at a business! Not quite 1000 layers, but definitely a bunch. It kinda reminded me of a Japanese-style baumkuchen, but instead of being a ring it was rectangular. So buttery and so dense. A little goes a long way; two pieces are good for me in one sitting. And it's perfect at home with some coffee. Asian Nougat: Did some searching online and apparently this homemade snack is really popular in places like China. Its kinda like a rice krispy treat, expect the marshmallows are used to bind Ritz crackers, almonds and dried cranberries. Also, the inclusion of powdered milk makes it nice and creamy. Very addictive; I could totally eat a whole pan of these!Pandan Coconut Mochi Layer: Pretty cool looking with a nice jiggle. Not as strong a flavor as the other items I tried. But as far as unstuffed mochi goes, it was pretty tasty with distinct coconut and mild pandan flavors.

So wonderful to discover 1000 Layer Bakery here in SF, where Southeast Asian desserts truly are a rare find. For those of us with ties to Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, items like pineapple tarts and kueh lapis legit are familiar treats that we absolutely love and don't get the chance to indulge in very often, especially in recent times. 1000 Layer does both of these desserts perfectly! For those not as familiar with these items, the kueh lapis legit is a good place to start, with it's rich, buttery layers of spiced cake. They also have other types of "kueh" on occasion, so it's worth it to check their social media feeds for updates. 1000 Layer currently has a stand outside at the Ferry Building Farmer's market on Saturdays and you can order ahead for pickup.

Ordered online and picked up the snack box. The 1000 layer cake is delicate and gently spiced. I also enjoyed the Nastar (pineapple cookie). Very enjoyable treats for an afternoon tea. I'm not sure where their main location is but I picked it up at SF Ferry Plaza Farmers Market
