Been having a malatang hotpot fixation and I've been obsessed with this restaurant! There's a location in Orange County as well, which is where I'm from - but that one is a lot smaller and has limited ingredients. They also don't have skewers, which I love from the San Diego location! The skewers are seasoned well and super flavorful. I LOVE the oyster mushroom skewers because of how it's fried in batter and it feels like you're eating potatoes. The beef and lamb are also tender and juicy.. soooo yummy. For my bowl, I ALWAYS get the beef bone broth. It has a nice deep and rich flavor to it that is so addicting! I've also tried the tom yum, which has a lighter, clean taste to it.. but I prefer my tom yum with a stronger taste. As for the ingredients -- I always get the wide noodles, uni fish balls, beef, money pockets, and then I add different veggies depending on my mood for the day. My spice tolerance is also pretty high, but I prefer getting mild at malatang. I'm not a huge fan of the Chinese numbing peppers, so mild is perfect to enjoy my bowl.A plus to my meal, is their in house chili oil. I add loaddssss to my sauce and soup bowl because it's that good!I've also tried their dry pot, but personally, I find the flavor a bit too salty for my liking. I believe the broth truly complements and brings out the harmony of all the ingredients better.

I always love hotpot but sometimes when I do family style or AYCE I either end up with things I don't like or way too much. What I appreciate about this place is how you can build your own and choose how much of which topping you'd like. It is a minimum of 1 pound (at $12.99/lb). In my hotpot I got a little bit of everything: different fish balls, enoki mushroom, cabbage, bokchoi, egg noodle, thick hotpot vermicelli, fish tofu, rice cake, etc. They had ~3 tables worth of toppings to choose from, I forgot to take a pic but size ref the skewer bar width and take 2 rows per table. I was sad they didn't have udon :( but everything else I usually crave was there. They have a variety of broth e.g., tomato, panang curry to choose from. I got the original beef with mild spice. SO YUMMY!Skewers are purchased at a minimum of 5 sticks, I really liked the pork belly and the lamb. I got mild (level 2) spicy and it was pretty bearable besides the fish tofu which was extra seasoned or absorbed more than the meats? LOL. My only recommendation for improvement would be to have better signage/live support in how to build your own. My friend and I didn't know that we needed separate bowls for the skewers, everything was just laid out and felt like every man for himself... But here is a little how to guide from start to finish of the restaurant dining experience: - Walk in and you will be seated at a table. They serve you water and then ask if it is your first time here. If you say yes they will tell you that it is build your own and go ahead and build your own...- Get one clear plastic bowl (looks like a large salad bowl) for the skewers if you're interested. Minimum of 5 - Get a separate clear bowl for the hotpot toppings and fill up your bowl buffet style (you pay by weight so do with that what you will...) - Bring bowls to the front. Choose your soup base and spice level for the hotpot. Choose your spice level for the skewers. FYI They will cook everything for you so don't worry if you got chicken/pork and you're like me -- paranoid about undercooking meats - Get sauce from the sauce bar (tbh the broth was so flavorful and the seasoning on the skewers too so I didn't use my sauce) - Sit back at your table. They're so quick with the skewers but the hotpot comes out a bit after. - Eat :) Enjoy :) The vibes were pretty chill, we went at 1pm on a Wednesday so it wasn't too busy. It was quiet but we were still able to yap away without being the only ones talking hahaWould recommend trying! and I will definitely be coming back now that I know how the build your own works. Kinda want to the dry pot next!

Came across this place while visiting convoy at and it definitely did not disappoint. It's $13.99 a lb but the skewers were seperate. You can choose your own ingredient and they have a variety. The service was ok and the ambiance was nice. They have 4 different types of broth which ordinal, tomatoes, Tom yum and dry hot pot. They have lots of ingredients and definitely a must come.

This hotpot hotspot is by far my favorite! The concept is incredibly unique and the variety of choices is delightfully overwhelming. Here are some tips to enhance your experience:Don't get overwhelmed by the vast selection like I did. Instead of piling everything that looks good into your bowl, stick to a theme and focus on what you truly enjoy. Remember, the more you add, the higher the cost, and it's impossible to savor every single item. For example, I once added six kinds of meat, two fish balls, two dumplings, two types of tofu, six vegetables, and two types of noodles, which ended up being too much. Next time, I'll stick to seafood, veggies, tofu, and the amazing glass noodles. Speaking of which, the glass noodles are fantastic, with both big, fat, flat ones and the standard super thin variety. There are so many types of noodles, including different ramen styles, that it's hard to resist adding everything to your bowl. One highlight was the octopus; I expected small calamari but was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful large octopus tentacles. The variety of food available is truly impressive and what makes this place so special. While the ambiance and service might not be top-notch, the food more than makes up for it. It would be helpful if the restaurant displayed more photos of perfectly combined bowls to give customers some inspiration. As for sauces, the dry spicy sauce wasn't my favorite, but next time I'll opt for a completely dry mix without the spicy pepper sauce, which was too peppery for my taste. The restaurant offers a fantastic range of side sauces, including peanut sesame, green onion, cilantro vinegar, sugar, hot chili oil, and soy sauce, allowing you to create your own dipping sauce or additive. I made a delicious dipping sauce with peanut sesame and regular sugar, which I'll definitely use on my next visit.I'm already dreaming of returning!

I love Yin Tang!! I have been both to this location and the Mira Mesa location and they're consistently good. The original broth is super flavorful and I get spice level 2/4. The skewers are also delicious!! They're very well seasoned and crispy but the meat is also juicy. Food: 5/5Service: 4/5Ambiance: 3/5

Yin Tang is a wonderful place to try! It is a bit different from other Hot pot spots as this is a build your own place. Once you're seated, you get a bowl and a pair of tongs where you fill up on any ingredients that you need. Once you're done with that, an employee weighs your ingredients and you can choose from a variety of different soup bases. I personally enjoy the thai flavor and ordering a side of rice. Located in a busy plaza, parking here can be difficult during busy hours. During peak dinner hours, there can be a light 20 minute wait but I definitely think it is worth it. price: $13.99/lb (you must order minimum 1 lb)Compared to the Mira Mesa spot, I would say that this spot is slightly worse The parking is so much more difficult to find and the food quality feels a bit different.
