We were staying at The Westin for my birthday. Becky had turned in for the night in the room. I ventured downstairs to get a few more coffee pods for the morning in the room. I ended up at The Westin Bar in the lobby!Bartender Paul and the couple from Louisiana, Bryan and Monique were great! I may have let it slip that it was my birthday, and the three of them helped me celebrate! Probably more than I needed to, after all I was just going for more coffee pods. LOL!There was birthday cake, there was (lots of) beer and they even sang "Happy Birthday" to me, it was a blast! An impromptu celebration after a day of celebrating. After using my $10 voucher that I received at check-in, my bar tab was a whopping 78 cents! Thank you to Paul (a San Diego music scene legend) and Bryan and Monique from Louisiana!

When I embark on my San Diego adventures as a visiting extraterrestrial (just kidding, I'm just an out-of-towner), or when I'm playing the gracious host to friends who dare to visit me in this beautiful city, there are two stellar choices that I wholeheartedly recommend. First up, we have this particular Westin, and right alongside it, the mighty Manchester Grand Hyatt. If I were to break it down in a simplified manner, I'd say the ratio here is like 8 out of 10, with these two hotels taking the lion's share. Now, why do I find myself gravitating towards this Sheraton more often than not, you ask? Well, it's not just because they have the warmest welcome for our four-legged friends. Until last year, I had the pleasure of being accompanied by two unique companions: a 16-year-old, wizened Chihuahua who had mastered the arts of blindness and deafness, and a German Shepherd who had more energy than a lightning bolt. These two furballs were embraced by the hotel without batting an eye and without demanding a deposit/fee. This was a game-changer for me. You see, the Chihuahua had separation anxiety that could rival a Hollywood drama, so having her with me was non-negotiable. And as for the German Shepherd, San Diego wouldn't be the same without our epic dog park adventures, scenic hikes, and sandy doggy beaches. I'll forever be grateful for this hotel's open arms (and paws) policy. But the canine camaraderie isn't the only ace up this hotel's sleeve. It also boasts a sense of comfort that just feels right. Need to print something? No problem, the printing station is as accessible as a snack in a vending machine. Parking? It's as abundant as seashells on the beach, which is quite a rarity among downtown hotels. Plus, you're within spitting distance of the train station and trolley - convenience level: expert. It's also not stuffy. Unlike Manchester, I don't feel the need to get get dressed up just to go to the lobby. Now, if your primary mission in town is to paint the Gaslamp Quarter red, maybe you'll want to set up camp closer to the ballpark. But me? I'm all about being in the vicinity of the freeway on/off ramps and Little Italy. Why, you ask? Because I'm a bona fide foodie, and those are my gastronomic playgrounds. The only downside I can think of is that the immediate block tends to roll up its sidewalks fairly early; they call it the "court district" for a reason, I suppose. And during the COVID era, the hotel kitchens went on an extended vacation of their own. But fear not, they've rallied their culinary troops and are now serving up some delectable delights down in the lobby. Just remember, there's still no room service to summon at your beck and call. But hey, that's not exactly a rare sight these days.I want to give a personal shout-out to the grand maestro of this establishment, GM Marco. Keep being the shining star in this interstellar hospitality experience!

We were pleasantly surprised by the food during our late dinner. I believe it's provided by Coast, which is the on-site restaurant that is open during the day until early afternoons. Service was great. The Comic-Con cocktails were fun.

Great bar inside the Westin hotel by the lobby. The shots were heavy pours and the Old Fashioned was strong ;)

Located in the open and airy lobby of Westin attached to Horton Plaza. Offers both food and drinks. Professional bartenders provide excellent service and offer knowledge of spirits. Lots of open space to hang out, relax over drinks and chat. Quiet enough to have a conversation without struggle.

Stayed at this hotel for a weekend when I had work at the SD Convention center. Didn't have a chance to experience a lot of the amenities like the cafe or gym or pool but everyone we interacted with was very nice and courteous. The overnight parking across the street on C street is perfect. $15-$25 a night and it's actually 24 hour (beware of the lots across Broadway that say they are 24 hour but actually are not). Not sure if/when I would need to stay down there again but I am a loyal Westin/Marriott traveler so I would recommend this hotel.

The Lobby bar at the Westin San Diego has HH weekdays 3-6 PM. A nice selection of bites and drinks are on the menu. It's nice to run into a HH in an upscale hotel. The ambiance is business casual with a mix of small tables, bar and comfy chair seating.the Lettuce Wraps feature a nicely seasoned Sashimi grade Tuna Tartre and has a side of a mildly spicey Kimchi. The Old Fashioned is with the well Bourbon, Jim Beam, which was still tasty. One note, it is a bit chilly in the bar so shorts ate probably not what you want to be sporting.
