The Gumbo Pot

First, let me say that I am I huge fan of gumbo. Second, although there may be some very good places to get them in SD, I had not really found one yet. Third, I got doordash delivery as my first experience with this restaurant. Ok, so I ordered Grandma's Gumbo, and paid the extra $5 for the crab. When it arrived, it was still pretty hot. It also came with a side of rice (a must-in my opinion, but some places omit it or charge extra). On sight, the roux was very dark. The quantity of the crab for $5 surprised me--it was basically a few legs and part of a body (they did not just toss in some canned crab meat and call it a day for an extra $5). Because I am OCD and I like to fully enjoy EACH AND EVERY BITE of my gumbo with all the good stuff in it, I first took the time to shell all of the crab and add it to the dish. In stirring it in, I also noticed not just the usual ingredients (chicken, sausage and fish) but, also, shrimp and scallops. The overall portion of gumbo was a bit smaller than I would have wanted for the price, but most things are these days. Now onto the taste--it was delicious! There was a lot of flavor but not too much spice, great seafood, plenty of okra, and a rich hearty stew. I can say that I will definitely order this dish again!

Terrible! Wasted $40 on slop. I was excited to try this place and support a local business, but I was very disappointed in the quality of food I received. The fried shrimp tasted like cornmeal with no seasonings, the mac&cheese was bland, and I found a hair in it. The cornbread muffin was hard as a rock, and the rice that comes with the gumbo tasted like the cheap cafeteria rice they give you in public schools, and the greens were mushy and very sweet! The gumbo did have good flavor but everything else was not good

The Gumbot Pot NAILED a large catering order for us.The food was a hit with the guests, at least a dozen folks asked where the food was from. We had the Gumbo, Chicken Ettouffe, Blackeyed Peas, Red Beans, Mac and Cheese, and Corn Bread. The food had a spice to it, but subtle - even the kids were eating it.I can't recommend the Gumbo Pot enough. The order process was easy, they delivered to the venue on-time, food was delivered via insulated containers, piping hot, and professionally sealed in chaffing dish ready pans.AND they were able to accomodate vegeterian & peanut allergy restrictions!

Such a fantastic tasty surprise...stumbled across this place while searching for take out options. The olde is located in the Aztec food hub (multiple food options co-located in one pickup place) so be prepared to park and walk up to a pick up window-no sit down dining here.The food was amazing with large portions so there was no way we were making it through everything. The food was still piping hot by the time We got it home. Portions were definitely a great value for what you received-didn't even make it through half of the portions. Fried chicken was super tasty and crispy....Mac and cheese was super cheesy-black eyed peas...corn muffin....hot link....all so good...time for a food coma will definitely be back to try more items

We happened upon Gumbo Pot this past weekend on a stop to nearby Sharia's Closet (shoutout to that amazing non-profit down the street - check them out and help them out).Back to Gumbo Pot: Gumbo Pot has specific hours of operation so check them out BEFORE you place your order for pickup and/or delivery. It is also not a dine-in but is in the Aztec Hub if you pickup in person - so just check their site so that you're aware of the set up. We also called their number to clarify and the gentleman who answered was helpful. Once you have all the details, enjoy the delicious plethora of plates, sides, desserts you can order from them:We ordered via Grubhub and are feasting as I write this review. The packaging is great and the food came hot and fresh. So much food! We went with the Jambalaya (yum and so much food for a great price...we will have leftovers for the next day or so. The rice was cooked perfectly); Fried chicken plate (both picky kids loved it so that's a review in itself...I am also a fan); Shrimp creole (great broth and spiciness and lovely rice again); Corn muffins were soft and flavorful; Mac and cheese was incredible and a great hot temperature even when it arrived (comfort food for a Sunday afternoon); we also ordered Grandma's Gumbo, Peach cobbler tart and the Pralines, but I'm pretty stuffed and haven't gotten to those last three yet). We will definitely be ordering from Gumbo Pot again. Thrilled to add this place to our "rolodex" of to-go orders, and wishing them much success. Highly recommended.

Awesome spot and must try!The catfish plate was really good. As others said the portions are large. You can order multiple things and share. Perfect for family dinner. I ordered catfish, greens, red beans and rice, hotlink poboy, jambalaya and corn muffins. Food arrived hot, perfectly packaged and a good mix of spices. Adding this to our rotation!!

The service was excellent and punctual. The food was exceptional, and the customer service was outstanding.

This is the most amazing Cajon restaurant! Shrimp Etouffee and gumbo are incredible. Don't go anywhere else!

Thank you for the wonderful bowl of Gumbo-Yaya. Had never heard of it before, but it was the perfect breakfast on my empty stomach. Also, thank you for your friendly customer service as I attempted to figure out what I wanted from your menu.

I tried literallye writhing on the menu Loved it Tasty but not saltyThis chef can cookA bit pricey not crazy but I'll tell u the food really is worth the price Service was great Quick on time But as far as a Resturant there wasn't one it was literally hand delivered only Wasn't a bad experience w it was just different either way the food was crazy good. yesss chef
