I have eaten here many times and always had great food in a good atmosphere. Most recently, my date and I had a wonderful meal of shrimp pakora, daal soup, chana masala, and chicken korma. The shrimp pakora was lightly breaded and fried just right - a little crispy, but not at all greasy, and not too much breading; you could still taste the shrimp. It also came with a tasty dipping sauce. I had just taken a dip in the ocean and the daal soup was perfect for warming up and taking the edge off of my hunger. At spice level 1, the chicken korma was creamy, flavorful, and just a little bit sweet; the chunks of chicken were tender. The chana masala at spice level 2 was perfect for me - just a little bit of kick, but not overwhelming. It was also very filling without feeling heavy. In addition to the food, what I have always loved about this place is its location. Just up the street from La Jolla cove, it is the perfect stop after an afternoon on the beach/in the ocean. If you sit on the patio, you have a view of the ocean; time it right and you can catch a beautiful sunset. The service is excellent, yet the vibe is casual; it's the perfect spontaneous night out. The prices are also very reasonably, especially compared to other nearby options. Highly recommended for visitors and locals alike.

My all time favorite tikka masala, I could drink the stuff. I've tried several other of the taste of the himalayas locations and this one is my favorite. We usually have it delivered so I've only eaten in the restaurant once but the service was good. Looking at the bad service reviews, I think it's important to remember the cultural aspects of service- in some cultures, you're not coddled in the restaurant, if you want something you ask for it.

We had a very good San Diego Restaurant Week (SDRW) lunch here. One of the things I enjoy about SDRW is revisiting restaurants where we have not dined in a long time. For Taste of the Himalayas, it's been over 10 years. We started with the Veggie Samosa (5/5) and Chicken Momo (5/5) appetizers. There were two perfect samosas in the order with a flavorful tamarind sauce -- our server gladly gave us some to take home.I ordered the Chicken Korma (4/5) for my main course, and my wife chose the Khukara Ko Masu (4/5). The later is a Nepalese Chicken dish that needed more "heat". Our server brought us some house hot sauce to add, which was very good.Ah, Mango Lassi (5/5)! We both enjoyed this drink with our lunch, presented nicely in copper mugs. The restaurant is small, simply decorated, and open to Girard. Parking is street-only, which is almost always a challenge. Overall, though, a must visit if you like Indus food.

Amazing family-owned Indian restaurant. As much as I love Indian food, I'm becoming a picky eater. I love cooking Indian cuisine at home and preparing my spices. I've never been impressed with Indian food in the U.S until I tried theirs. The difference is, they are a family business and treat you like their own family. Each dish is flawlessly seasoned, leaving me wanting more.Thank you for the amazing meal. We will be back soon.

We were strolling La Jolla enjoying the wonderful weather after we watched the seals and sea lions. The original restaurant we hoped to visit was closed. Walking back toward our car, we read the Taste of the Himalaya's menu posted outside and decided to dine in.We had wonderful service from entering the front patio, and was given a table outside with lovely views. Our order: the mixed tandoori, chicken makhani, and the garlic naan.We ordered medium level spiciness (4), and food was brought promptly to the table as it was ready. It was a lovely and delicious meal, we finished everything. Being able to share the dishes, we were satisfied with the portion sizes.
