Taste of The Himalayas

Taste of the Himalayas was a great surprise in downtown Carlsbad right near the beach. The restaurant is a combination of Indian and Tibetan food and it was all amazing. Dishes are served family style so order accordingly. They warned us about the spice level as it comes on a scale of 1-10, but I thought 4 was rather mild. One item that stood out was the naan - it was easily the best I have ever had. Otherwise, the biryanis and tikka masala options were flavorful with well cooked meat and fish. The prices and portions were both great and we had plenty of leftovers to bring back to the rental. The service was good and they answered all of our questions. If we ever go back to Carlsbad Beach, there is no doubt we are stopping by for another meal!

I have heard amazing things about this restaurant and finally got a chance to try it out.It is in a large complex and during non peak times, it is easy to find parking, but during Mother's day weekend, not so easy.As soon as I walked in, I noticed the décor and ambience which are inviting and different from most restaurants.The menu has several great options to choose from. I tried 3 different types of Naan, and it was some of the best Naan that I have ever had. I tried the plain naan, the onion naan, and the garlic naan. I could eat that every day.They gave us a little cup of soup before the Naan came out, it was warm and tasty and a nice way to start.Mixed Tandoori was what I decided on because of the combination of marinated chicken, lamb, salmon and shrimp served in sizzling platter with sautéed onions, bell peppers, cabbage, and carrots. It comes with rice as well. It was a large portion, and I was able to take some home even after eating most of it.The Tandoori was delicious. flavorful, moist and a great choice.I definitely will be trying this restaurant again. I have to decide between the Tandoori and the Chicken Tikka Masala and other choices.

Everything was great. Nothing spectacular, but standard and doable. If I'm in the area and crave Indian food would give them another try.

Food: I loved the creaminess and taste of their tikka masala sauce. However, both the chicken and lamb entrees were dry unfortunately. I also wasn't a fan of their garlic naan as the taste was too overpowering and it reminded me of garlic bread at an Italian restaurant. Service: Our waitress was nice but service was slow although it wasn't busy. Ambiance: I really enjoyed the ambiance as they have outdoor and indoor seating. If you seat outside, then you can people watch and enjoy some fresh air as there are other business around. If you decide to seat inside, then you get easily transported to India.

I want to upfront say that the low rating for this place is because the service has been consistently bad. The last time we went with a reservation we waited for an hour and a half for our table, which was super frustrating. This time we went with another reservation, and they didn't appear to have written it down, and luckily had a table open for us. The restaurant was not crazy busy and from the time we sat down to the time we got our food took an hour and 45 minutes which is pretty insane. The restaurant is clearly incredibly understaffed and need some help. I will say however, the quality of their food definitely makes up for the ridiculous wait. Every single time I've been thoroughly impressed with the taste of the food that we've ordered. Last time I got a vegetarian curry and this time I got the butter chicken both which are exceptional. You can adjust the spice level to your liking, and the naan portions are pretty generous. The prices are definitely quite high for what you're getting but you got pretty full by the end of your dinner. I really love the location but wish that they had more space or more workers to accommodate the people that come because it really was frustrating and a consistent problem. Can't say I'd come back often to have to sit there for an hour and 45 minutes to wait for three entrées.

Since all the places around had 40+ minute wait, we decided to try taste of Himalayas. We were so glad that we did. Everything was absolutely delicious. It hit all the spots. And they sat us down right away. Staff is really nice. Highly recommend.

So good we drove over an hour to get it again coconut naan is insane, momo was so juicy, and the chana masala with a level 5 spice was soo spicy but literally delicious.

Overall, I was very impressed with the food quality. The chili shrimp was packed with jumbo shrimps, full of flavors, punch, and kick. It was sweet and tarty but not too sweet, which made it savory.We also tried the chicken biryani, which was not bad. It wasn't my personal favorite but my friend enjoyed it.Service was attentive and good. The servers wanted to make sure we were taken care of. Ambiance is also very appropriate for dinner with family, friends, or your date. Id love to come back for more :)

A good option for Himalayan food. We ordered the chicken makhani, paneer Tikka masala and some garlic naan. The chicken makhani was better than the paneer Tikka masala as it was definitely on the spicier and richer side. The garlic naan was good. The ambiance is plain, nothing super elaborate. The people running the restaurant are all really nice. If you're walking around Carlsbad and desire desi food, this place is definitely worth a visit.
