Sunny Dumpling House is extremely unassuming- tucked away in the back corner of 99 Ranch, they serve delicious pork buns for a great price.Ambiance: 3/5- There are only 2 tables available inside the restaurant, which isn't really something they can fix easily. Luckily, I have been able to secure a table each time I've gone. This might be a place more fit for takeout.Food: 5/5- OMG I am crazy for their pork and cabbage buns. I could eat like 4 of them in one go.Price: 5/5- Best value on Convoy. PERIOD.Service: 3/5- Nobody is coming here expecting good service, am I right? It's a place to grab delicious food and leave quickly, LOL.

Food: 3/5Service and Setting: 2.5/5Value: 3/5Located inside 99 Ranch Market, Sunny Dumpling House as never a restaurant that I really looked at. Going in, it is pretty clean and new looking. I like the sort of outdoor China vibe they got going. The workers are quick and snappy but not overly mean. If you have language anxiety, they do speak English so do not fear! Parking is normally easy but if you are afraid of getting trapped in the parking lot by bad drivers, definitely park in the front lot versus the back. Their credit card machine was broken so I needed to put in my information manually, very sketch I'm not gonna lie. Overall, it was okay. If you need a little snack after shopping or getting boba it's fine but nothing more.Green Onion Twist Roll: 4/5If you get this, please make sure to reheat it in the microwave or steam it. They are served at room temperature and taste much better after being warmed up. Fluffy, chewy, and bland in the best way, this served with a cup of hot soy milk or milk tea is a breakfast for champions. The green onion flavor is very faint but adds a light touch of flavor for this yummy bread.Pork Bun: 2.5/5A bit sweeter than normal pork buns, this bun Is not really extraordinary in any way. The meat filling is slightly better quality than a frozen bao but would not convince me it is homemade or from a restaurant. It literally just tastes like sweet soy sauce and not much else. Beef and Onion Bun: 2.5/5When I think about beef and onion buns my mind immediately goes to rough pieces of meat and hearty chunks of onion. The meatball filling is smooth and has no texture whatsoever. The smell of onion is there, but there is very little onion flavor. Underwhelming, but I can see some picky eaters enjoying this.

They have great frozen dumplings and fresh baos. We get a huge 50 pack every time we're in the area. It makes for a quick, easy and delicious meal!

This place isn't a sit down restaurant and doesn't have a large menu but it is my go-to spot when I'm craving some preserved egg and salted pork rice porridge. For $3.75 a bowl, I'd say that's a deal! It's located inside the Ranch 99 mall so I often stop by after picking up some groceries. I also see them making fresh dumplings, buns and wontons so one of these days I'm probably going to purchase some of those as well.

This review is primarily for the Pork Buns since that's what I go for. The pork buns are so juicy, delicious, and fresh!! Honestly my favorite place in SD for pork buns and remind me of the ones I used to have when visiting China as a kid. All their buns are made fresh daily and you can see them making the buns when you walk in. You can buy the buns in singles or a box of 9. I always get the box of 9 since it's worth the price and they're addicting.Located in Ranch 99 and good service every time I've been. Support a local small business please!!

I feel back to China when I was at this place, it's a nice and warm feeling. Their buns and bao are all hand made, you can see they are making the food through the glass window at their store. Their foods are delicious, I tried Dill & Pork and Sauerkraut & Pork bao this time, so yummy!!! I feel I can eat two more for sure. I also had a pork & thousand years egg porridge, it's nice! I sent a photo to my mom, I believe she will be happy to know that there're good hand made bao place in San Diego.

After the previous business had vacated this suite in the back of the 99 Ranch Market complex on Clairemont Mesa Blvd, Sunny Dumpling House took over the space and began running a similar operation. The biggest difference was the elimination of most of the dining room and converting it into an extension of the kitchen preparation area. You can now see workers knead and roll the dough used to make the products. As for the menu, there were fewer entree dishes and a great focus on buns (baozi) and homemade dumplings. Unfortunately, the latter was only sold in frozen quantities of 50. One would think you can get some freshly steamed wontons, but those too were only available in a frozen state. Why would a dumpling house not sell their namesake product in piping hot, smaller quantities? Nearly every other item can be bought and eaten on the spot.Ten different types of buns sold for $1.99 apiece. Two of the varieties I had wanted were unavailable, fennel & pork and mushroom & chicken. The three that I bought were beef & onion, napa & pork, and red bean. The outside of the dough was chewy while the inside was not particularly hot. Based on my experience and feedback from others, I have a hard time believing that Sunny Dumpling House is a five star establishment because there are several areas of needed improvement.

I've been to Sunny Dumpling House twice to buy their frozen dumplings and I'll go back again and again. The café is sunny and inviting and the staff are friendly but it's the dumplings that shine. At other restaurants, I need soy sauce and siracha to enhance the dull flavor of the dumpling but not with these beauties, they don't need any help!

I've left a one-star review due to poor management and customer service. Be cautious when ordering takeout--always check the containers thoroughly. I ordered two cases of prepacked buns, each case has nine buns, and upon opening one, I found a bun with a bite taken out. Initially, when I called to complain, they denied it, but after sending pictures, they promised to give me a case in return of my bad exoerience. Later, they changed their stance, asking me to return the entire case for an exchange. You tell me what I should do? A bad review in hope of better management and customer service in the future.

Lady was very friendly. Baozi needs to double the salt, sugar, and oyster sauce. Adding chopped onions will help a lot too. Overall, it is a nice low sodium treat for my father.
