Tasting Notes: The Publican is a hoppy ale that is highly aromatic and finishes crisp and dry. Its subdued malt profile and lower alcohol levels provide a showcase for the aromas and flavors of citrusy American hops. The Publican is brewed in honor of the proprietor of O'Brien's Pub, Tom Nickel, and it is a beer you can enjoy glass after glass. Tasting Notes: The Bachelor cannot stay wedded to a single hop variety, so every time that we brew this single-hopped beer you can look for the hop variety to change. Each variation of The Bachelor uses the same basic malt recipe and hopping schedule, yet because each hop is different, there might be a slight adjustment to the bittering hop addition in order to achieve the level of bitterness that we are looking for. Each version of the Bachelor is a delicious educational exercise for learning about one of our favorite beer ingredients: the hop! Food Pairing: When we drink The Bachelor, the hops are always changing so the beer is always different. That's why we call upon the Bachelor himself for a food pairing - just ask Nate!

Strong pine and bitter citrus flavor come forward, whereas grapefruit citrus undertones accent the dry finish on this delicious beer. Food Pairing: When we drink The Apprentice we always seek the opinion of a master. We hooked up with Chef Adam Duyle, a beer and food pairing guru, for a beer dinner in San Francisco. He paired The Apprentice with a Confit Rabbit Leg & Loin, with Potato Gnocchi, Green Garlic, and Rucola. We definitely learned a thing or two
Tasting Notes: The Roustabout is a deceptively strong beer with an intense hop character that includes both citrus and pine notes. Our big IPA is medium in body and pale in color. The bitterness is well-balanced and the beer finishes dry. Food Pairing: When we drink The Roustabout we think about our favorite Elvis Presley movie. We bet that "The King" could suggest an interesting food pairing for our big IPA
Tasting Notes: The Scrapper is a dark hoppy beer with mild bitterness and smooth roasted flavors. The American hops trick your senses into thinking you are smelling an IPA, but the roasted malts explain the dark appearance and the accompanying nutty and roasty flavors. Tasting Notes: The Haberdasher is an English-style IPA, brewed with all English malts and all English hops. The malt presence balances artfully with the earthy English hops, creating a drinkable beer that is unlike anything else that we brew. Food Pairing: When we drink The Haberdasher we go for something definitively English, for example the "Full Breakfast" spread
Tasting Notes: The Harlot is an extremely easy to drink crisp, light, and dry Belgian Extra. The beer uses a pilsner-lager recipe as its base, but we ferment the beer using one of our house Belgian ale yeast strains. A well balanced set of floral hops, light malts, and the Belgian yeast all lend to the highly versatile and delicate presence exhibited in the midst of this beer's complexity. The Harlot is brewed in the tradition of a lost style of beer typical in the border region between Belgium and the Czech Republic. Food Pairing: When we drink The Harlot we have difficult time choosing a food pairing because The Harlot pairs well with a wide variety of foods. If we had to pick a dish, however, it would be hard to beat another glass of The Harlot
Tasting Notes: The Debutante is a Belgian ale, amber in color and heavily aromatic. The aroma delivers notes of allspice and nutmeg mixed with a touch of caramel. The beer has a light-medium body, but finishes dry and smooth with flavors of caramel and toasted sugar notes in the finish. The Debutante does not feature a fruity Belgian flavor profile, but it is instead a nuanced and drinkable ale. Food Pairing: When we drink The Debutante we often get a craving for something sweet. It's no coincidence that we nick-named this beer "Little Debbie"
Tasting Notes: The Widow is a dry, surprisingly high-alcohol Belgian dark ale. This beer impacts the palette with flavors of toffee and caramel. A very slight touch of roasted malt combines to intrigue all the senses. Notes of raisins and molasses along with yeast derived spiciness dominate the flavor and aroma. Food Pairing: When we drink The Widow we are thinking burger. Check out this "killer" burger that comes with smoked bacon, onion rings, avocado, double-thick cheddar cheese on top
Tasting Notes: The Madam is a dangerously deceptive, high gravity ale that features the drinkability of a light beer. The beer is medium bodied, yet crisp and light on the mouthfeel. Our Belgian Golden Strong has a sweet aroma, but there is relatively little sweetness in the taste. A rather a complex set of spicy hops can be detected in this dry finishing ale. Food Pairing: When we drink The Madam we think about San Diego's most famous Madam, Madam Ida Bailey. We'd pair this beer with the traditional American fare that was available at the historic San Diego parlor in the "restricted" Stingaree District, The Canary Cottage, where "only the finest food was served"
Tasting Notes: The Gleaner is the newest addition to our Old World subculture of beers, a Saison with California Sagebrush. The Gleaner was released for Societe's Second Anniversary celebration. Food Pairing: When we drink The Gleaner, we look for a refined dish to enjoy while appreciating a true work of art from Jean-François Millet
Tasting Notes: The Butcher is a big imperial stout with an overwhelming roasted malt characteristic. It has a velvety smooth, yet full, mouthfeel that hides any alcohol tones. A thick, dense, dark chocolate-colored head delivers aromas of roast, and the flavors are heavily toasty and biscuity, lingering on the tongue. There is also some bitterness that comes from the hops and roasted barley, providing for a perceived dryness that makes the beer surprisingly easy to enjoy. Food Pairing: When we drink The Butcher we crank up the Death Metal and we break out the Boudin Noir
Tasting Notes: The Pugilist is nearly black in color with a balanced roasted character. The beer is light in alcohol, but full of aroma and flavor. There is a slight sharpness coming from both hop bitterness and roasted barley, but its thin body, lower than normal carbonation levels, and a slight acidic character rounds out the beer to be smooth and pleasant. Food Pairing: When we drink The Pugilist we definitely want to avoid a fight, so we'll leave this pairing up to the Food Fighters
Tasting Notes: The Bellowsman is a smoked stout that features malts smoked with both cherrywood and oak. The addition of these specialty smoked malts imparts a subtle yet clearly present smoke-flavor characteristic. This is undoubtedly a roasty and aromatic smoked beer, but it is accessible to those beer enthusiasts who are not looking to be overwhelmed with the smoke characteristics. The beer finishes crisp and dry, with only a hint of residual sweetness. It is highly drinkable and pleasantly warming. Food Pairing: When we drink The Bellowsman we are thinking smoke. I had the opportunity to swing by Societe while visiting San Diego. A fantastic brewery with a great selection of different beverages. I enjoyed several of the IPA varieties. Sat outside in a courtyard they share with the folks from Churchill's cigars. I have another review for that wonderful place. The time I was there a vendor was in the courtyard making tamales.The experience was great and would recommend you swing by and sample their tasty selection of beers!

The most important men in my life love Societe beer, so I can't rate this with anything less than four stars. Personally, I am fine with most of their beers I've tried, with only one or two standing out amongst the others for me. I do really like the proximity of this brewery to my lab, and I think their Oktoberfest decor is super cute and I can't wait to return this year. I am also in love with the tacos that are frequently sold outside of this brewery, but I've only tried them during work hours (and unfortunately I can't have beer at that time).As for the service, it's always been friendly, and I like that they're not pushy about anything.

We were given attitude by the employee admitting entry because we should have "called ahead", even though there were tons of open tables and no line at the front. I understand that 8 people arriving is stressful, but it was extremely rude and there were lots of other larger groups and families at the premise treated well.The beer was good and the property was great, but it's hard to get past that initial impression.

The atmosphere is fun and upbeat. They have tables in and outside and a handful of board games. I'd probably bring my own games like sushi go, kites, slay, etc. with a group of friends next time. Service was fast and friendly. They do not have food however, there is a taco truck that comes!

There isn't a brewery my wife and I didn't like. Being in San Diego we are spoiled. There are so many good ones in the area. Add that to the year round good weather. Who doesn't want to enjoy a tasty beer on the nice shiny day.Tucked away off of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. You will find Societe Brewery Company. A nice sized brewery with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is ample so getting a pint and relaxing somewhere is not difficult. At the time we were there. They had a food truck. So you could have had a burger with your beer that day. Most of the time breweries don't serve food but subsidizes that by inviting a food truck to offer their patrons food if they want something to eat. The food trucks vary so it might be a taco truck one day and a hot dog stand the next. Most breweries have a website with a schedule of what food trucks are available on what day. Worst case scenario. If your hungry. Bring your own food. Most breweries are cool with you bringing outside food within reason. Overall, Societe is a well ran brewery. The selections are wide ranging appealing to different beer tastes. The service is friendly. Parking and seating is easy to find. Support local businesses especially the good ones. Societe rocks. Drink beer here.

Came in to catch SDSU play in the first round of Men's NCAA tournament. All beers were $1 off while the game was on. Tried the light beer and the Belgium dark ale. Both were tasty. Our pourer was friendly and engaging. Overall a great way to spend a bit of time over great beers and catching the game. Oh and SDSU won!
