Super cute and quaint local spot. Lots of pastry options as well as bread and breakfast options. Folks were attentive and was willing to answer my question about what's their favorite thing and why. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with ham for myself and also a gluten free brownie for a friend. The bread on the breakfast sandwich was super unique, almost like a soda bread bun. Loved the sandwich and would order another the next time. Looking forward to visiting again trying a coffee as well.

What awful customer service! I went in to try this place. As a fellow smallest owner in South Park, who refers many clients to other businesses in the neighborhood I was excited to try some thing new to me in the neighborhood. I walked in and began looking at the menu, and was greeted by an employee who asked me if I knew what I wanted. I told her no I wasn't ready yet and she seemed exasperated that I hadn't made up my mind. Hello! Never been here before! After some perusing of the menu, I saw some hibiscus shortbread cookies that looked amazing. However, they were a packaged with chocolate cookies and I simply asked if I would be able to just buy hibiscus shortbread cookies on their own. The gal behind the counter was so abrupt! I Explained that I can't have chocolate, but the hibiscus shortbread cookies sounded amazing and she firmly indicated to me that it was impossible for me to purchase them separately.OK...So I opted for a baguette and there were two left on the shelf. One was a beautiful light golden brown and the other one had spent a little bit too long in the oven. She bagged up the burned baguette then handed it to me.So I will not be returning, or referring any clients in the direction of this business. Wow.

Definitely one of San Diego's hidden gems. Came one morning and got the Citrus olive oil coffee cake and the garlic cheddar chive gorgere. The citrus olive oil coffee cake was the bees knees, dense and moist, not overly sweet. I could eat this any day, it screamed for a cup of coffee to go with it. I'd get this every time. The garlic cheddar chive gorgere was good but not what I was in the mood for. It was more of a savory pastry. Light and savory, I think it would be good made into a breakfast sandwich with eggs cheese and sausage or bacon. There isn't a large sign outside only a small decal on the window, guess that's what makes it a secret. They are next to Rose wine bar and I think the food for the wine bar comes from the secret sister kitchen. There are a small handful of seats inside and out, but I'd say it's mostly a take out type of place. They have a 150 year old sourdough starter which is something I'll have to.comeback and try next time.

Secret Sister has an amazing selection of sourdough. The baked goods are based on a 150 year old sourdough starter. I first tasted their sourdough while dining at Mabel's Gone Fishing.Sourdough baguette has a crunchy crust and full of sourdough flavor. Loved it.Cookies had an interesting texture. Not crunchy and not soft and gooey. Rather kind of inbetween. I liked the flavor.Sourdough country loaf had a crunchy crust and soft and fluffy insides. Loved the sourdough flavor. Usually french bread is my favorite but I love the sourdough flavor here as it has some sourdough flavor but not too much sour flavor.Customer service was excellent. Staff was friendly and sliced my country loaf for me.

I had seen that this spot was one of the top bakeries in San Diego and had to come check it out! My friends and I had a lovely experience here.It is a great place to grab a bite or coffee with a friend or for a date (also pet friendly!!). They have an adorable patio area and a welcoming inside seating area. I got a cappuccino which was delicious and the strawberry, thyme, raspberry, poppy seed sourdough scone. It was delicious and I loved how all the flavors came together. A few of my other friends also ordered this and did not regret it. The breakfast sandwich looked delicious, I would like to try it next time. I hope to be back there soon!

We had a lunch reservation at an Italian restaurant in South Park recently and decided to visit this bakery beforehand. Secret Sister and Rose Wine Bar occupied adjoining suites in this building on 30th St. The signage to Secret Sister was minimal with only a label on the window of the front door. The inside was not large by any means with table space for maybe a dozen customers. A short line allowed us to study the menu board and look at the products on display at the service counter. The highlight was the use of a 150+ year old sourdough starter to make the baked goods. Baguettes, country loaves, and brioche buns made up the core breads. A breakfast sandwich, baguette sandwich, Rose burger, and seasonal quiche were some of the other offerings. If you wanted to dine in, a multi-page menu from the Rose Wine Bar was available with plenty of other choices. I wanted to purchase a few baked goods to take home and ended up with the following...* Citrus Olive Oil Coffee Cake* Sourdough Morning Bun - jam, malted vanilla cream* Sourdough Sticky Bun - raspberry, white chocolate, macadamiaThe coffee cake appeared to be a signature item available daily. It was very moist and smooth for a cake. Each of the two buns was loaded with sweet toppings to contrast the sourness of the dough. The sticky version was gooey as you pulled it apart to eat. They may have been a little pricier, but the quality was top notch. I really liked the flavor combinations. When I scrolled through the social media photos, there were unique profiles that the kitchen had created for the various baked goods. I gave a 4.5 star rating for our Secret Sister takeout experience.

I feel like this place is such a not hidden gem. Right in the heart of South parks main area, it was pretty busy on a Saturday morning but we were still able to find seating pretty easily. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and you order at the counter before sitting. They seem to focus on/feature a lot of sourdough options which is great. I got a drip coffee with a blueberry rhubarb bran muffin. My partner got the breakfast sandwich but didn't want any cheese so they were able to swap the bread out for a sourdough brioche bun and no cheese in the sandwich. It had ham, egg, arugula and aioli. We loved everything. The sandwich tasted super high quality. The bun was light and chewy. The muffin was gigantic and even though it was bran, it was so moist with fruit embedded throughout. Not too sweet either. Prices are also super reasonable! Pretty rare nowadays. Muffin was $4.00 and the coffee was $3.50 for a giant mug. Breakfast sandwich was $11. Service was really friendly as well.

At least 3.5 of these stars are for the sourdough bread itself. I felt bad not giving an extra star but I feel the bread was doing so much of the heavy lifting here. It is made with a super old starter and tastes just like it - spongy bouncy bread inside a firm crunchy crust that is just to die for. I love me my sourdough and was glad to have happened upon this place. The down side :( almost all the other stuff I have tried. I tried a lemon pistachio cake which in idea sounded good, but was lacking in something? Flavor? Fat maybe? I was disappointed. I also ordered a berry ricotta pastry which was okay, but definitely felt I could get better at the donut shop. Really bummed out, but at least the bread made it worth the trip. The workers are friendly and helpful, they do offer some GF items, but there is cross-contamination so not celiac-friendly, and they have some nut items so not totally allergy-friendly. I don't dock points because they don't market themselves as such but just noting as I have friends who are celiac and have allergies and I'm always looking out for new things for them, which are hard to find. I digress. The inside is pretty small and always packed, and there is indoor and outdoor seating. I usually take my stuff to go so I don't have to wait for a seat. Parking is parking, and usually a good 2-5 minute walk to find anything.

First time trying out this place -- the tomato and goat cheese quiche is the best thing I've eaten in San Diego. I will be back here at least once a week from now on. Had a bite of their sourdough donut, which was truly unlike anything I've tasted before. You can tell they put a lot of love and time into the dough. Order at the counter, casual, but cute vibe :) neighborhood gem! Good for a quick bite and a drink.

Went for Sunday Brunch with a girlfriend and the food did not disappoint! It was a bit crowded and service was a little slow. But once we got our food, the short wait was worth it! The party on the Rose Burger was seasoned to perfection! I couldn't put it down. The carnitas hash was also 10/10. We wanted to try the polenta that's a big hit but they were sold out. Definitely get here early to get the goods! You can also smell the fresh breads from the bakery. Added this place to my brunch list!
