Recently ordered take out on Sunday July 28. I went to the bar and ordered all the food no problem. The bartender was attentive and punctual with the food. When I got back to my room with the food everything was perfect. The food quality and the seafood is the best I have ever had. We also dine in and it has an outdoor area that is on the water. Gorgeous and breathtaking atmosphere. The serving staff goes above and beyond all our expectations! My family always eats at Poseidon for our yearly trip to Del Mar. It has become a special tradition for our family.

In town to celebrate moms birthday, dropped in because that has been her all time favorite Del Mar resturant for over 40 years!!!All the way back to breakfast on the patio, and the famous PoJo Burger!!! Last night we sat out on the patio, food was fabulous, a large offering of seafood, we each had something different, everything got rave reviews!!! Perfect perfect perfect... TASTY!!We had Dave as our server... SPOT-ON is an under statement!!! Knowledgeable of the food, wines, and spirits!!! Very outgoing, but not over the top, great attitude, made our evening a fun time!!!When in town I always stop in here!!View is AMAZING!!

We ate at Poseidon Del Mar on a very busy Friday night, with prior reservations. We waited for our table for about 15-20 minutes. They don't have much room for waiting guests, except the bar, or the hallway in front of the hostess stand. There is a lot of people watching going on! Many people were dressed nicely, but as usual, with flip flops, tennis shoes, and casual shoes. We got a table in the deck, but not on the water. We looked over two rows of tables to see the ocean. It was warm but breezy and I was happy I had a jacket to put on. For dinner we had the Scallops and the Cioppino. Both dishes have scallops and I was surprised to see my Cioppino had bigger scallops than the Scallop dish. We shared, tasting the others dish. Both dishes had tamari pickled beech mushrooms, which had a sour taste. I didn't like them. For me, they ruined the dish. For dessert, we had the creme brulee. It was lacking in vanilla flavor and almost seemed like plain pudding. We were not impressed with the food. This location seems to be popular just due to the location. It is on the water, the sunsets are spectacular, and it seems like "the place to be" seen. The next day, both me and my boyfriend were ill. I had severe diarrhea as did he. I don't think it was the seafood, but the mushrooms. They had a sour taste. I called the manager and he said next time I come in, he will do something for me. I don't imagine going again.

I made a reservation for a patio table for 3 and when we arrived early, our table wasn't ready yet...but we were able to atleast get a drink at the bar before hand. Once they had our table available, the hostess walked us out and seated us in the middle of the patio. I noticed a table by the window/beach was being cleared and cleaned up and the host told me that we could move over there once it was clean so we were happy. Well, two seconds later another party was seated there...I spent 5 minutes contemplating what we should do. It was my birthday and I specially made reservations at this restaurant because I wanted the view. I was hoping the hostess would come back with a solution or atleast an apology but she didn't so I went and spoke to her. She looked at my like a deer in headlights and when I said "I'm not sure if you saw, but another party was seated there..." she said yes, I saw... okay so were you just going to let it be and not even apologize for promising us something? It was annoying. Luckily, another table near the window opened up and our server moved us over right away. I can't remember her name but she was a sweet elderly lady. Much more accommodating than the hostess. We started with the calamari and the coconut shrimp. Bothe were basically but tasty. My husband ordered the pork chop and my bestie and I ordered the short ribs. All three entrees were huge and so fulfilling. My husband really enjoyed the pork chop. It was a perfect medium rare. My bestie and I loved our short rib and my husband even said he should've ordered the short rib after tasting a bite - hahahahaha. The beef was incredibly tender and flavorful. I really liked the carrots and mushrooms that were paired with mash potatoes. We all agreed that we wished the mash portion was a little bigger. It felt like the carb portion was small. Aside from the poor service at the start of our meal, the food really made up for it. The view is also incredible and really is the selling point of Poseidon.

Food is expensive here and you're mainly here for the view (though the food is good). But I had a great experience today, and knew what I was paying for, so still happy to give five stars.Today was VERY HOT, so Del Mar was crazy crowded and it was hard to park. I was a little late and then one friend was late to get dropped off, and the last two people could not find parking and decided not to come. So I had reserved a prime beach-side patio table for 4 and we ended up being 2 people who were late. The waiter was still exceptionally nice and did not push me at all to order while I was waiting for my friends. I wish I got his name (tall, white, 30-something guy). I started with a mojito and the pistachio crusted brie. Both of them were four-stars; not must haves but refreshing. The brie is one of the better app values on the menu ($11).For entrees my friend got the avocado toast and I got the furikake ahi salad. I'd say four stars again for the ahi salad - not exceptional, but tasty and a healthy choice.Overall, once I got here, I had a fabulous time at one of my favorite treat spots, a place with the best combo of right-on-the-beach and food in San Diego. It's not cheap, but I appreciated very much how well we were treated even though we were half a table and late. I definitely will bring special guests here again or go myself when I am craving some time on the Poseidon patio, looking out at Del Mar Beach!

Haven't been here in over a decade. The restaurant is right on the beach (if you did not already know). Most people sit outside, like we did, and the indoor seating looks like a cruise because of the circular seating. I was impressed by the entrees. My friend had the scallops, for which she gave me one of the three big pieces. It was really tasty, not overcooked, and the mashed potatoes was surprisingly very creamy and flavorful. I ordered the chilean sea bass, which was also cooked very well, not over done, and moist. The calamari was different--steak in pieces, instead of the normal tenacles, which I actually prefer. The menu described some Thai chili sauce but there really was very little of that but instead a side of mayo/white sauce. Service was great. I liked our server, who brought me a creme brulee or my birthday. What I do not like is the $4/hr on the meters or $8 valet in the same lot. Don't forget that parking is enforced 24/7 for 365 days of the year.

We were celebrating a birthday and made a reservation for 7:15 p.m. to eat on the outside patio and watch the sunset. We arrived about five minutes early to check and and we were told that there were three tables that were just paying their bill, and our table would be ready soon. The hostess informed us that they would send us a text to alert us the table was ready. At 7:30, I checked to see if our table was ready, and was told that there would not be any tables available for a while. At 8:00 we checked back in with them, and they said it would be a long wait to get a table outside. I don't understand their reservation system, or the system the hostess used to seat people, as we were initially informed that there would be a table for us close to our reservation time. We did not get to sit out on the patio and watch the sunset as planned, and after it was dark, we finally asked to be seated inside. The food was delicious and the waitress was outstanding; it just wasn't the experience we had planned on.

My wife and I planned a weekend in Del Mar 10 months ago for the first weekend in August 2024. We made reservations here at Poseidon to celebrate an early 36 wedding anniversary and we brought our baby Corgi Luna with us.When we googled the best 10 places to eat that are " pet friendly" the Poseidon was listed. When we arrived for our reservation " NOT so much friendly". The hostess and manager quickly inquired why we had Luna and if she was a " service dog". I stated no and they began to tell me that we could not eat there with Luna on the outside patio.I explained to the manager that they are listed as pet friendly and when you make the reservation it gives the option to add a dog ( " brining our baby Luna a corgi on a leash). We decided to take a walk along the beautiful park. We decided to cancel out reservation and we ate at a great Restaurant the Salt & Lime with our baby Luna and we had a wonderful pre-anniversary lunch. And, we probably saved about a 100.00 bucks too. Hey, a new toy for Luna!
