Came here one night while in San Diego and craving some Vietnamese food. This was the closet location to our hotel that was open later in the night, so I came here to pick up some to-go to eat back at the hotel. Parking is this neighborhood is not easy to find. I had to circle around many times to find parking and ended up scoring a parking spot right outside the restaurant. When I walked in, I was surrounded by the smell of pho in a good way. It smelled really good. The restaurant is on the smaller size for seating, but there was a bench you could sit on while waiting for your to-go order. The girl who took my order was nice and friendly. My food came out in a very timely manner.I was craving rice, so I ordered the Fifth Avenue rice special which came with 7 items (grilled pork, grilled shrimp, sugar cane shrimp, chicken, meatloaf, shredded pork, lettuce, cucumber, pickled carrots & daikon, and fish sauce. My brother wanted the same thing but the vermicelli rice noodle version. Each dish was $21and I initially thought that was expensive... but when I received my order, it was really heavy! When I opened it, it was loaded!! Each order was plenty of food for 2! In our case, we had enough left over to eat it another day. So it was actually a pretty good price! Everything tasted delicious! I enjoyed eating all the different meats. Everything had good flavor to it and my meal completely filled me up!I would come back here because I really enjoyed the food and the price was on point, but the main thing is parking in the area. On a weekday later at night is not too bad on parking, but I'm sure this area gets really packed and difficult to park on weekends.

Pho on 5th used to be my go-to pho place, but unfortunately, my recent dining experience has left me extremely disappointed. It appears that there has been a change in ownership, and the quality of the restaurant has significantly declined. To begin with, the service was incredibly poor. From the moment we arrived, we received a lackluster welcome from the server, which set the tone for the rest of the evening. The restaurant was practically empty at 5pm, which should have been a warning sign in itself. The biggest letdown, however, was the lukewarm pho. Not only was the temperature of the broth not hot enough, despite being in the broth for a considerable amount of time, the meat remained pink and raw. Adding insult to injury, I experienced digestive issues later in the evening, accompanied by a slight fever. It is quite concerning to think that the improper handling of food may have been the cause of my discomfort. I noticed a person from the kitchen, who appeared to be the cook, wearing black rubber gloves. However, to my astonishment, they were touching everything without changing their gloves.Overall, I am deeply disappointed with the decline in quality at Pho on 5th. The combination of bad service, lukewarm pho, and unsanitary food handling practices has made it clear that I will never be returning to this establishment. It is truly unfortunate to see a place that was once a favorite now fall so far from grace. Save yourself the disappointment and seek out a better dining experience elsewhere.

I have no affiliation with this wonderful restaurant except that I'm especially pleased with their hospitality. They are always greeting their guests warmly. The menu is varied and moderately. So the affordable meals are so accessible can enjoy the food. Nothing on the menu is high priced. It comes steaming hot expertly served with convenient accessories. I've been going here many years and I would always recommend if someone's visiting Hillcrest at meal time to give this wonderful establishment to try.

Been going to this specific spot for over a decade. Service is prompt and the food arrives in almost no wait , piping hot! The broth is key in Pho and it's amazing! Delicious. Perfect for today's rainy day. Everything is consistently flavorful and tells why it's still standing while other places have come and gone on this block. You will be pleased and satisfied.

Always squabble with my partner because I want to order from here and they want to order from a different pho place and here's why: this place has the best banh mi I've tried in San Diego. I love their regular banh mi, but the chicken one is also great and the grilled steak banh mi is best of all!! However, their pho always suffers from DoorDashing it. It usually arrives with broth not hot enough and one time it ate right through its packaging and flooded the bag. My partner doesn't have the same experiences when we order delivery pho from other places, so wondering if it's just getting the takeout materials tweaked? I don't know but I'll come back for the banh mi forever.

The mans is always craving pho and with me always down for some pho, we came here for a late lunch. The place was pretty spacious. The bathroom was so tucked away in the back it felt like a journey getting there lolol. The service was very lax, I think you can easily sit and chill for a bit, and they wouldn't mind. I got the Small Pho Filet Mignon ($15), which I highly recommend! Their meat was way softer and tasted richer too. The broth was on the sweeter side compared to ones I've tried in NYC. I had to add more lime to balance out the flavors, but I love that their wedges are so squeezable compared to other pho places'. AND they offer sauce dishes as part of their utensils self serve counter, which is something I am always needing but it's never conveniently available like that. I also thought I was still going to be hungry after reading reviews on the small bowl, but the small actually got me feeling stuffed! The Large Pho Dac Biet ($16), aka the #1, was ok to me. I tried their beef, and they were dry. I had a piece that had too much fat and too tough to chew, that it became a waste. The prices are more expensive than what I'm used to for pho, so come here for their filet mignon pho if you want something slightly different and delicious!

Haven't been here in probably 10 or more years. Parking cost $3.00 for one hour. Ordered the Grilled Chicken Banh Mi (sandwich) and Duk Biet (rare beef, tendons, rice noodles). The food was delicious, just a little pricier than other popular Vietnamese restaurants. Also, the Bahn Mi wasn't thick and full with meat and veggies. Service was good.

This review is for the pho only. Pho came out not piping hot. What a bummer! The tendons are chewy which is not what I'm used to back home. The broth has a detergent taste to it , my guess is that it's from the bowl not washed and dried properly. Service is just ok. The restaurant itself is low lit and not very inviting. My husband thought his vermicelli bowl was a 3-star. This is a one and done visit for me.

Came here because it was one of the few pho places open later. Wasn't personally a fan of the strong cleaning product smell in the place. The pho was okay, not great but not really bad. But it wouldn't be my first pick during regular hours.

this use to be my go to place too but unfortunately it sad to say it no longer is. Reasons :1) price went up 2) broth was warm not hot , noodles were raw 3) did not give me the side veggies as usual even though I requested it4) they are stingy with the food portions now 5) took 5 calls for them to answer the phone I think they changed in owners ..
