Mati's Birria + Beer

My cousin and his girlfriend had Mati's catering for their baby shower event last week at Sweetwater summit. Woooowwwww!!!! There was always a line of people whenever I looked over. I decided to go over and get some Birria tacos with cheese for my mom and I, they had rice and beans on the side. They also had diced cilantro, diced onions & fresh homemade red and green hot sauce!!!! I also peeped out some chili oil on the table. I spoke with the crew, they are located in pacific beach and got their names. The crew that was working that night was Miguel, Mike and Mia. The three M's (I hope I got their names right) They were welcoming, talkative and friendly. I got our food and it came out fast! I added everything to it besides the chili oil. Omg so delicious! The food has so much flavor. The meat was juicy and tender, the tortilla that they used did not break apart easily which was a good thing! The hot sauces were on point! It was fresh, homemade and delicious. One Birria taco with some rice and beans filled me up and I had to save it lol. I did noticed they made cheese tacos/quesadilla for my cousin. I'm glad they took his special request. My mother really liked their birria tacos; she devoured it. Overall, they kept their station clean and tidy. Very helpful in answering questions of the food. I would definitely visit them in the future whenever I'm in PB.

Been following them since before they had a storefront and only did orders from their house / had food stands at different festivals.The Birria is awesome and I love their taco and quesadilla. So glad they finally have a storefront at a good location! The margarita was good too. Good, friendly service and both indoor and outdoor seating options.

delicious birria (shredded beef)! looks like barbacoa but different and tasty seasoning. meat was super tender too. loved the extra beef consommé made for a great accompaniment, kinda like a latin version of the aus ju that come with a french dip sandwich.they even have a keto/diabetic friendly version of their taco. instead of a tortilla, they crisp shredded mexican cheese! awesome!

Closed? Came here on Sunday for lunch. Hours say that they are open, but no answer on phone or in person

The best birria tacos I've ever had, so so flavorful and cost friendly! This might have been my favorite meal in San Diego after a week-long stay. I tried the Birria and the El Padre tacos, and both kinds were phenomenal and left me craving for more. The tacos were huge and three was enough to fill myself up (and I was STARVING prior to this meal). They don't skimp on the meat nor the other ingredients which is fantastic! You must try their drinks as well, the Spicy Margarita I ordered was only $13 and the size of my face. It was super refreshing and the perfect amount of spiciness - 10/10!I would definitely come back, in fact, I'm missing this place so much as I'm writing this review. I wish they had locations in every city in the country! LOL.

I was exciting to try Mati's ever since I came across their Instagram and saw the giant Michelada. For our visit, we ordered the Michelada in the XL size. When it arrived, I was delighted that it was the size of my two hands. The Michelada had their house made Michelada mix, combined with a choice of Modelo or Pacifico beer. It was served in a glass with a chamoy and Tajin rim and garnished with a tamarind candy stick and lime. I went with Modelo and it was really tasty and tangy. It definitely hit the spot.For bites, we ordered the birria platter which had half pound accompanied with rice and beans, onion Cilantro limes, and two tortillas. We also ordered the birria flautas, which came with four Birria Rolled Tacos topped with sour cream, chipotle sauce, cilantro, onions, queso served with a side of consome. The birria was not as flavorful as I hoped but it was still good.They kept all doors open so it was cold in there, so bring a jacket! I'd come back for the Michelada.

This is a pretty solid place in Pacific Beach to get tacos and brews, as the name states. The happy hour deals for food and drinks is pretty solid, and the quality here is above par for the most part. Atmosphere/ambience: is a nonchalant dive bar -- but do it nicely. Clean tables and chairs. Good windows/lighting. But nothing fancy or too chic. Space is a little tight inside, just with a few small tables and bar service. There's more space outside.Service: fairly good and quick. No complaints. Nothing too special though appreciated accommodating me and my young family for a little creativity with seating and food placement. Got us drinks quick and food quick to quiet the potential meltdowns.Food: The birria is very good, highly recommend the tostadas, and loved the guac. The chips are fresh and salty, plenty crisp, and thin. The birria meat is pretty solid but not the best I've had. The cheese sauce was disappointing -- on the nachos or as a dip. It's like somewhat fancy cheese wiz. Not a lot of depth, fairly bland, and makes you feel you're at a baseball game (though I do love a good baseball game nacho -- not just what I was expecting or would hope for). Drinks: Good deals on beers. Fair selection. The margarita was a little sweet and not very strong. Did appreciate the giant size.Price: Great deal at happy hour. Fairly good deal for quality otherwise.

All in all a pretty decent dining experience. Birra tasted good and was very inexpensive. Chips and salsa were basic but tasty. I was a little disappointed that they had no sugar-free beverages. Cauliflower ceviche was very anti-climactic. Service was good. And the restaurant is a very clean, small restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. I definitely come back here and eat a second time.

Mati's Birria + Beer is a cozy little restaurant with good indoor and outdoor seating. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted and seated at a table. I liked the spicy margarita: it was quite refreshing, although the house tequila wasn't too strong and it was more on plain side missing some dense lime juice taste I was looking for. The complimentary chips and salsa kept me occupied until my food order came out in around 5 minutes.I sampled some Birria Tacos, El Padre, and Quesa Tacos; making them a combo with rice, beans, consome, and pickled onions. The consome was good, I wish it was a bit more hearty layered with more fat, but it served me fine. The agua fresca was quite refreshing and delicious, and it made the overall experience complete. My server was very kind to follow up on everything I ordered and checking in on my experience. Overall, pretty good food in a cozy ambiance with a friendly service. What else can anyone ask for?
