I would rate Market more than 5 stars if I could... sincerely the most memorable and amazing meal of my life. I came here on my birthday and this was definitely the highlight of my day. We ordered dirty martinis at the bar while we waited for the table to be ready, and once at the table we were greeted by Grady who offered impeccable service throughout our meal. He provided us great advice on the wine list and we ended up going with his recommended Syrah which was a great choice with our main courses. We ordered the ceviche and tuna tartar to start (prefix menu), and I was amazed to learn that the chef had caught the tuna the night before on a deep sea fishing expedition - real farm to table experience. Definitely the best tuna and probably the best raw fish dish I've ever had, and that's saying something as raw fish is my culinary weakness. The ceviche was also incredible and I loved the Dorito-style chips that came with it. For the main courses, we ordered the beef tenderloin and the lamb. The beef tenderloin, again, was one of the best dishes I've ever tried, but I have to put a spotlight on the lamb dish: it was served with herbs, peaches, cherries, potatoes, and caramelized onions, and of course a gravy sauce and some sort of puree that I'm forgetting at the moment... but if a dish could be described as melt in your mouth, then this was infused into my taste buds with perfection. Even while eating the leftovers for lunch the next day I was audibly saying 'MMMMM' while I enjoyed it fully alone at my kitchen table. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate mousse style dish that was delicious as I am a huge chocolate lover, but I was surprised that I preferred the beautifully crafted berries and cream dessert that came with a macaron on the side. I was given a candle in the dish to blow out which was a hopeful expectation given that my birthday was known to the staff, and still very much appreciated. I was also sincerely touched when a staff member came over and left an envelope on the table with my boyfriend's last name written on the front (he made the reservation). Inside was a happy birthday card that had handwritten signatures from some of the restaurant staff. I've never seen a restaurant do this before, maybe due to my lack of fine dining experiences, but nonetheless it added to the whole experience I had here. We were the last ones in the restaurant, but we did not feel rushed out and it was nice to somewhat take our time with finishing our wine and dessert. This was a pretty lengthy review compared to others I've written, but this restaurant needed my recognition given my unforgettable experience. I truly can't wait to come back, hopefully with more family or friends next time to introduce them to (hopefully) the best meal of their life too.

Wow, this was one of the best meals in our lives!! We came here for our anniversary and were just stunned by the incredible food! The place has modern decor and romantic with beautiful lightings. The service was just ok (the waiter was not very welcoming or friendly), but honestly, when the food is thiss good, it doesn't matter so much. Appetizers:The complimentary bread included warm corn bread, which was light and delicious. Gorgonzola soufflé: I don't normally like Gorgonzola, but this was incredible - not too heavy, and the texture was so moist and smooth. The peach and cherry salad on the side paired perfectly - the peaches were amazing as well.Yellowtail tartare: super refreshing, light and umami! The fish went really well with the mango salad. The nori crisps were also really delightful and flavorful. Entrees:Braised short ribs: wow... this was extremely tender and the sauce was perfect- very decadent, flavorful, and everything just melts in your mouth. The mashed potato was creamy and smooth, and complemented the beef. Beef tenderloin: super tender and perfectly cooked steak! The outside was crusted perfectly whereas the inside was so juicy and tender. The sauce was a bit salty but the accompanying onion cream tart balanced the dish! The tart was to die for... flaky crunchy crust surrounding the creamy heavenly onions... I could have so many of these. Dessert:Chocolate cake with chocolate mousse: surprisingly not extremely sweet, and the sponge cake was moist and light.Strawberry and cream: strawberries with yuzu panna cotta - super refreshing and the perfect way to end the meal. Overall, definitely one of the most memorable dining experiences! From beginning to the end, I felt like everything was crafted and planned so perfectly by the chef. The price is also super reasonable for an upscale restaurant. Will be back for another special occasion!

The only reason we found this restaurant was because it was on San Diego's top 2024 restaurant list! Awesome ambiance , meal and service. This will be added to our fav restaurants and are looking to visit frequently. Everything we ordered was delicious. Added the wine pairing -definitely worth it! We'll be back. Thank you Lila for the excellent service!

Wow!!!!Valet service, full bar, low lighting, unpretentious, knowledgeable staff, and the most important part......the food!! You pay for all courses- so no sharing! Come hungry! We ordered Bacon salad- beautiful packed egg and the bacon was like European speck. The vinaigrette was light and perfect. Mushroom truffle soup- hubby said it was a tad heavy for him but enjoyed the flavorBeef short ribs - perfect tenderness and complimentary flavorsEggplant Parmesan with truffle tortellini- hubby said he couldn't taste eggplant flavor enough, but he said it was still really good Lemon soufflé- if I only came for this, I would be a happy woman, delicious! The ambiance and the intimate, clean, beautiful setting is what had me. It feels warm and cool at the same time, kind of like putting on icy hot- but in restaurant form! Haha! Enjoy!

My boyfriend took me here to celebrate my birthday and I'm extremely glad we came here. This is now hands down my favorite restaurant!! Parking is valet is $6 which is fair compared to other places. We did the $79 per person 3 course menu which was nice because you have a limited selection to choose from. The food was incredible! Everything was cooked to perfection and every element on the dish was necessary to balance each of the flavors. The free jalapeno cornbread bread was to die for. We got three refills. Our server was attentive and amazing. I loved every aspect of being here and I can't wait to come here again for future special occasions!HersHamachi Sashimi - 10/10Pan Seared Petrale Sole - 8.5/10Green Apple Crepes - 10/10Bergamot Blazer - 10/10HisCrispy Duck Confit - 9/10Moroccan Spiced Rack of Lamb - 8.5/10Pumpkin Sundae - 10/10

As a seasoned foodie, I recently had the pleasure of dining at Market Restaurant and Bar to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my husband. The service from our waiter was impeccable and the drinks were top-notch, setting the stage for what we hoped would be a truly memorable meal. For starters, I opted for the cauliflower soup with lamb meatballs, which was a solid choice but left me craving a touch more black pepper to bring out the flavors. My husband's duck appetizer, on the other hand, was a hit and left him eager for moreMoving on to the entrees, I selected the sole, which was cooked to perfection and boasted a delightful texture, but I couldn't help but feel that it was missing a certain je ne sais quoi in terms of seasoning. My husband's upgraded rib cap steak was quite good, but unfortunately, it was smothered in sauce, detracting from the steak's natural flavors and leaving him wishing for a more pure steak experience. We also ordered a side of short rib, which was tasty, but it seemed to share the same sauce as the steak. To cap off our meal, we indulged in the cheesecake ice cream and chocolate flourless cake for dessert. While they were both enjoyable, they didn't quite reach the heights we were hoping for.All in all, our experience at Market Restaurant and Bar was good, I don't think I would return.

The food is delicious! It's has a low lit & boujee ambiance. Service was amazing, our server was so friendly and intelligent with wind paring. The only downside was the random service charge!

Incredible service, ambiance, and food from start to finish. We ordered the ceviche, burrata, short rib, mushroom truffle tortellini, and tiramisu. Every dish was perfectly prepared, with flavors and sides that complemented the main ingredient. I would even say the tortellini dish inspired and surprised me, at a restaurant known for its short rib. I sometimes eat vegetarian but have often felt veg dishes are an afterthought on most menus. Not the case here.My mom is an extra picky eater, and she was closing her eyes after every other bite saying "this is exceptional".Our amazing waiter Matthew also told us that the menu is seasonal, which you can taste in every bite. What a special place to celebrate my mom's birthday! Thank you Market, for giving us a night we'll treasure until our next visit.

I can't express how incredible our dining experience was at this restaurant! It's a prix fixe menu, however you do get a few individual choices which is nice. The food is absolutely exceptional, especially for the price...and our service was amazing! The atmosphere is really comfortable...yes, we could actually hear each other talk and were able to have a great conversation because of the low noise levels.Everything about this dinner was great from start to finish and so we've decided that Market bar and restaurant will be a regular stop for us! Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Market in Del Mar is such a hidden gem in Del Mar. For the uninitiated, they have two separate menus to choose from depending on where you sit in the restaurant. One for the bar, which offers pretty amazing sushi as well as al a carte items from their main menu. The main menu is a tasting menu where you pick one appetizer, one entree and one dessert. The chef always sends out a lovely amuse bouche to set the stage for the meal and let me tell you.. it never disappoints. The space was renovated a few years back, and the whole dining room feels, cozy, warm, and inviting. The menu does change on a daily basis based on what is in season or the ingredient the chef was able to source that day. But I will say.. you genuinely can't go wrong with anything you pick. This chef is talented with a capital T. I have eaten at a lot of great restaurants throughout the country and I was extremely impressed with the high caliber of food I got at this little unassuming restaurant in Del Mar. Appetizers:Duck confit (amazing and prepared two ways)Gorgonzola soufflé (also amazing but definitely rich)Tempura sandals (I had never heard of these but my mom was raving about them) they were so delicious and were served with this amazing green curry sauce Entrees:Rack of Lamb (crowd pleaser for the table and perfectly cooked)Braised veal cheeks (they didn't have the traditional short rib that evening but it's always on the menu so never fear)Grilled beef tenderloin (still delicious but I think we all preferred the above two items over this one)Dessert:Green apple crepes with yuzu and butterscotch (3/4 people at the table ordered this and we're all blown away)Cheese plate with Brebirousse (aka my fav cheese! It was sooooo good)Food: 10/10Service: 9/10Ambiance: 8/10 -- better in the bar but the dining room is very quiet so it's good for parents in town :)
