I've been coming to this place for decades. As a former prosecutor and naval officer, it was always fun to come here and wait in line with other lawyers, sailors, civilians, everybody just hungry for a great meal. It's been around so long, I don't know what else I can say, other than you need to come here. When you get to the counter, grab a tray if you're gonna eat here, otherwise you will get an evil glare from the lady behind the counter as if "don't you understand how this works? Eat here, grab tray. To go, we give you bags of stuff." OK, makes sense, but I didn't know! The menu is short and sweet, displayed on the wallabove the women cooking in these vast pots of hot oil. Flautas, tacos, never tried them. I come for the chorizo con huevo. Small, medium, large. They will ask if you want it with rice, the correct answer is yes. She'll throw down some home made tortillas in a basket, they scoop out the chorizo in a bowl, scoop out rice, put it on the tray, and you shuffle left. Sort of like dealing with the Soup Nazi, but friendlier. At the cashier, grab the tongs and add your own chopped onions, cilantro, and grab a lemon if you would like. Don't forget the hot sauce. For all that is holy, do not forget the hot sauce. Oh....and CASH only!!!!The combo just works. Rip pieces of tortilla off and dip it, or scoop the chorizo and rice into it and make it a bite. I'm not judging. I come here every time I return to San Diego. May this place live forever!
