What a great find! Even weeks later i had to write this review thinking back on how delicious Encinitas Fish Shop is!We happened to stop by on a day they were doing their oyster special, 1.25 per oyster!!! We weren't even going to get oysters but you can't pass that deal up. The variety was great and oysters were delicious. Although it was busy with a long wait line, the line moved quickly and the staff was friendly and kept things moving efficiently. Plenty of room, finding a place to sit and eat wasn't a problem even with the business. Food came out quickly. Loved their house spice rub on the fish. Was super happy we were in the area and found this great spot. Obviously the locals knew the place to go!

I can understand why this place has a long line. We came in and on the menu: different types of fish; Mahi Mahi, Sea bass, Shrimp, etc. marinades: lemon butter, blackened seasoning, chipotle glaze, etc. Then we were allowed to pick a style: plate, salad, taco, or sandwich. We got three Mahi Mahi tacos, one Sea bass taco, on Yellowtail taco, a Yellowtail plate with mixed rice and seaweed salad, and a plate of large fries. Everything was delicious, except the mixed rice, which didn't taste good at all. There are lots of seating options and people are nice. The only problem is that the service is slow.Nice place!

This is a nice, casual, seafood restaurant and it is very popular. You wait in line, order at the counter, and then they bring your food to your table (pay attention, they generally come close to you and then yell our your name). There is plenty of seating, inside and out. As others have noted, be prepared to wait in line. The line can get very, very long. They have one person at the counter who takes the orders. If they had two people, it would be like a gift from heaven to the customers waiting in that line. Just saying. The menu is very interesting. They have regular dishes you can order (like fish and chips, poke bowl, etc.) or you pick your type of fish, your desired seasoning, and the way you want your food (taco, sandwich, etc.). You have a lot of options here. Incidentally, the beer, booze, and wine menu is very strong and interesting . I went with a garlic butter shrimp taco and a blackened salmon taco. You get a choice of flour or corn for the tortilla and I went full gringo and asked for flour. They were freshly-made tortillas and were outstanding. Both tacos come with a bunch of cabbage, cheeses, pico, etc.I also tried a special taco made with both shrimp and tri-tip (Cardiff Crack) and it was good. There is so much going on with the tacos, it is a little hard to appreciate the protein. They are good-sized and two tacos are absolutely plenty for a hungry person. One might be enough for a smaller eater. We also tried a small order of the onion rings and received a very nice sized-portion of them. They were not greasy at all and were very nice. The food is a little on the pricey side but it's fresh and the dishes are well made. I'm not a fan of the long line but otherwise, this is good stuff.

This place was delicious, the staff was lovely, and the space was super enjoyable to eat at. This was exactly what we were looking for. The oysters were super tasty and easy to eat. Both fried fish tacos on corn tortillas were super good. I got mine with avocado and it was 100% worth it, it was the perfect avocado and it was a big piece. I will say we did want more heat on our tacos but they had cholula at the tables to help with that. My boyfriend had the shrimp taco and said it was amazing, I opted for the grilled swordfish and it was super good and really well cooked. I do recommend using their house rub because it was a little plain with the lemon butter. The ahi tuna was truly the star of the evening. It was so, so fresh, amazing and perfectly seasoned. I would eat a bucket of it. Everyone was also super friendly and we were super happy with our dinner. Cant wait to come back!!

Stopped at Encinitas Fish Shop after a day at the beach. It really hit the spot! There are so many menu options to choose from. I ordered the blackened fish tacos and they were exactly what I wanted. The restaurant is very busy so be prepared to wait for a bit. It's worth it!

a very good fish shop, but i think it was missing a little bit to give it 5 stars. mostly everything was super solid here, but i think this is the baseline for a decent fish place. oysters - $1.25/oyster on thursdays after 4pm! pretty fresh and good! no notesfish shop lumpia - i'm a huge fan of lumpia, and i absolutely devoured these. so good, i highly recommend! they are perfectly crispy with delicious filling. mahi mahi plate - my friend ordered this and i didn't try much of it. however, i did try the sides (onion rings and mac salad) and they were not very good. the onion rings were not cooked fully and the onion was a bit raw. the mac salad was a little dry and underseasoned. ceviche - really yummy and fresh. perfect app with the chips. fish shop stew & clam chowder - i would recommend the fish shop stew over the clam chowder. the chowder was underseasoned and a bit tasteless. fish shop stew was really hearty and yummy. fish and chips - super crispy fish and amazing fries!! no notes :)shrimp sandwich - i believe this was a special and it's not on the normal menu. it was good, but i probably wouldn't get it again. in terms of service, keep in mind that the line can get quite long. we went at around 7:30pm on a thursday and probably waited 30-40 minutes before ordering, then another 20 minutes for our food. i'm not sure if the line was also because oyster night. the restaurant is a bit loud but nothing you wouldn't expect. you can either sit inside or outside. overall, i would recommend this place if you're seeking a pretty standard fish shop!

I am always up for a good fresh oyster and the Encinitas Fish Shop does not disappoint. Every Thursday night $1.25 per oyster from different locations. The best oysters are from the Pacific Northwest hands down! Service was excellent and friendly. Ambiance is open, family and dog friendly. Enjoy the outdoor patio during Spring and Summer! Fish Shop stew is delicious and comes with a piece of garlic toast. Smoke salmon sandwich and fries was tasty. Lots of choices on the menu! Don't forget the bar and the Pupil Beer. Check them out!

We ordered a beer, a margarita, spicy dorado taco, andouille sausage clam chowder and a side of Mac salad. Beer and marg was solid. Andouille clam chowder had really great flavor. It was tasty, but definitely was more potato soup like rather than clam chowder. There was also some chunks of roux that didn't get broken down so that was a bit unpleasant. But again, super tasty. The spicy dorado taco. Was a bit disappointed by the amount of fish in there given the size of the tortilla (and the price) but the sauces had good flavor. Fish was WAY over cooked. Quite tough and chewy so the taco was just an all around no for me. Mac salad was pretty good. A bit watery. Which made it lose cohesiveness w the vegs. But meh. However. All of their fried foods looked amazing. This place is a 3 star review for now. BUT. I will definitely be back to try some of the other things because I'm definitely intrigued.
