El Costeño Mexican Food

Some people have told me that gas station Mexican restaurant food is superior. After this trip the El Costeno, I would be tempted to agree. There are lots of options that can cater to all sorts of eaters. The owner who was inside was incredibly nice, and talked me through the chorizo breakfast burrito I was hoping to get, letting me know that it's his grandma's recipe. It's a beautiful thing to carry on somebody's legacy through food, especially when grandma knew what she was doing. The chorizo in the breakfast burrito is cooked with onions and serranos, whose char imparts a smoky flavor on the meat and egg. The tortilla was warm and perfectly stretchy, the cheese melts its way through the other ingredients, and the beans velvety and not overpowering. Well seasoned! I ate my Al pastor taco in their outside seating, which was humble, sunny, and lovely. The taco itself was also fantastic. Nice pieces of pineapple throughout, tender meat, bright yet unaggressive onion moments, and a nice avocado salsa on top. My own subjective side notes: dude was hella cool in there, I like a pastor taco without the avocado salsa on top cause I like to taste that sweet juicy meat (my preference) speaking of which, I could have used a little extra salt on (no big deal though). Overall super tasty, I would highly recommend it. One probably needs about half-3/4 of a burrito to fill up, prices very reasonable. Thank you for the great experience!

Stop by and got some gas and I saw they had a taco shop inside !! The gentleman at the front recommended me their carne asada fries. The carne asada fries was different than any other carne asada fries I have gotten. They came with a pepper seasoning on the fries and the meat was marinated full of flavor! Definitely hitting this spot every I go fill up ! They have lots of seating outside and even a TV !

First time here with my family. Place has good food for being inside a gas station. Carné asada fries are seasoned and crispy, guacamole is good flavor and the meat is juicy. We had horchata is very creamy flavor and sweet love the taste. Well I had the Rockefeller burrito also was delicious.

I never knew this place existed till my neighbor told me it's located inside of the gas station/convenience store. Set up is weird, I'm not gonna lie. They do offer dining area outside the establishment but it didn't seem like they offer full service. Perfect for quick pick up.

My recent experience at El Costeno was disappointing. I called in to place a order over the phone. Call was answered and declined and upon arrival, I was greeted with attitude. The staff member(Lady) handed me my food aggressively, insisting the salsa is inside the bag.Despite the slow business, there's no excuse for such treatment of customers. Respect and courtesy should be paramount, regardless of circumstances.I hope the management addresses these issues promptly with this lady. Until then, I can't recommend to others.

Excellent place for lunch. Good seafood soup supper was great. It's a good place for lunch.

El Costeño Mexican Food is located in a gas station. Now you may find yourself wondering, "Should I try this gas station Mexican food?". The answer is YES! The service is quick, and the food is fresh. They have a covered patio area outside so that you can sit and enjoy your meal. I am obsessed with their Cali burrito, and my husband always gets the carne asada fries. We've also had their fish tacos, and they're great as well! The red salsa is my favorite, but green is also good. Give them a try, and you won't be disappointed (or at least, I joke you won't be)!

Don't let the gas station fool you. After seeing all the military members lined up, I had to try it! The carne Asada bowl was delicious, service was pretty fast for being lunchtime rush. I recommend this spot for all my fellow LEO's nearby..

My grandson and I were getting a smog done next door. The guy suggested there was a sitting area on the other side of the convenient store.. boy oh boy my g-son and I discovered a new place for rolled tacos! They were delish ..... check em out, you won't be disappointed! Upon reading all these other reviews I can only imagine how delish the rest of their food is!

I ordered carna asada fries and asked for no guac, and the cashier looked at me rudely. They charged it to my card and it declined, so I had to swipe it again and it went through. They asked me twice while I was waiting for the food if i wanted "no guac" and each time I said no guac. The food comes and of course it has guac, so I go back inside and ask them to remake it. I found out after i left that due to swiping the card twice, i got charged twice the amount and did not get it refunded. I understand that they were not very fluent in english and may have had trouble understanding what I wanted, but when they saw me get charged twice on their screen, I wish they would at least have canceled the second transaction. I will come back because the food is good and one of the only mexican places I like in the area, but please be aware of the customer service issues.
