Dukes Old Fashioned Onion Burgers

The best burger I've had in a really long time. Also to add, it's a smashed burger which i usually don't care for but i will gladly pay the tab for this one. Ordered it Dukes way with jalapeño and every bite with the grilled onion was perfect to the finish. You would think from the size of it; it would fall apart but never had the issue and remained all together until it was gone. I know it seems a bit pricey; but for the burger alone and the flavors that come together, it's worth the buy. The chili on the cheese fries were great! Don't know anywhere else i can get it like that and the portion itself was a big serving. I like that they actually used shredded cheese to top it off with instead of nacho cheese. I will definitely be returning for the burgers and explore more of the menu

Once i stepped in the store i already felt the at home vibe which immediately made me comfortable and the woman at the register was nice and friendly which was off to a great start I ordered three items with 3 condiments that are all house made if I'm not mistakenHouse made Condiments: Tabasco Ketchup? , Ranch , Ketchup. My favorite was the Tabasco Ketchup 1. the single onion burger with all fix ins 2. Banana pudding shake 3. Garlic Parmesan fries Prices are kind of decent it totals out to almost $36 But for what I paid for it wasn't really worth it IMOThe portions and the taste of the fries were great no complaints about the fries.The shake was amazing as well almost flawless ! It is slightly on the much sweeter side but the creaminess and taste is up to par overall with the shake.For the burger Just want to start off by saying it's not bad but it's not the greatest? And taste wise for the meat patty itself yes it's sort of similar to Oklahoma style burgers but not all around there as I've lived near and traveled to Oklahoma numerous times but the bun was too much for me.... and also all the fix ins which was lettuce tomato and mustard ? Not sure what the rest was but if I was to order again I'd probably leave the fix ins out but yeah I'm not sure about the bun it's too much bread for the burger which is what I came for and I'm not going to lie was pretty disappointed with what I was hoping for and it did not remind me from what I've experienced in Oklahoma.Honestly if you're looking for a burger that's cheaper and same quality just go to In n out you'll save half off for what i ordered here pretty much.

Let me be clear: I thoroughly enjoy Duke's burgers. The fries are good, the service is friendly. So why the three-star review? Simple: the price point is NUTS.I tried Duke's once because I know that they serve an Oklahoma-style onion burger. While I've attempted this style myself while at home, I thought it would be nice to get one made by professionals. For those unfamiliar with the Oklahoma-style onion burger, it's a Great Depression-era invention. The burger patty is smashed thin with a mountain of thinly-sliced onions. The original intention was to create a patty that is about a 50-50 meat-to-onion ratio to stretch limited beef supplies during this economically devastating time.That's why, to me, the price seems extra wild. One glance at the menu told me that I would need to save up and splurge if I ever intend to order anything other than a single burger, a regular side of fries, and a fountain drink. And even then, it's expensive enough to warrant second thoughts.One single onion burger is a dizzying $16.25. You can also opt to get a kids' meal "value burger," for $12.95. Anything more "specialty," than that (premium toppings, extra patties) puts the burger in the $20.91+ price range. A plain order of fries is $7.45 and if you add a $4.25 fountain drink, a basic "combo," at Duke's starts at $27.95. If you opt for bacon or specialty burgers, loaded fries, and/or a shake, it's pretty easy to get to the $40 range... And this is fast-casual counter service without alcohol.If you opted to go to Curbside for a burger instead, you can get a basic burger with a 1/2lb patty, fries, and a beer for $33.60, including a 20% tip for table service. You can go to Mastiff Kitchen during the hours they serve their lunch special and get a burger, fries, and fountain drink combo for $14.95 or $18.95 with a beer. That same combo off-special is $21.50 with a soft drink, $28 with a beer. Smash & Dash at Aztec Food Hub includes a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink for $18. Johnny B's lunch special is $14.75 for a cheeseburger, your choice of side, and a soft drink or light beer, and averages around $27.40 for something similar at dinner. Even Hodad's is cheaper at $21.50 for a burger, fries, and soft drink.My point is that while Duke's makes a good burger, it is not any better than literally anything else in the area that offers a better value. That's why it's pretty hard to justify going to Duke's. After all, what sense does it make for me to drop $35-40 on a burger meal when I could go down the street and get a comparable burger meal for $18-28 that also includes beer? Sorry Duke's, but the math just doesn't make sense in this economy.

All I have to say is YOU Have to come to this place .. these BURGERS are FIREEEEEEEEEEE !!!! Trust me you won't be disappointed shot out to the guy on the counter that schooled me on the best burgers in town !!! Make sure you try one of there SHAKES they are delicious !! The service was amazing and will defiantly come back !!!

Heavenly burger & totally unexpected. Here's the commentary heard as my husband and ten yr old ate: "I haven't had a burger this good and juicy since... a LONG time!""I know. Usually I don't like burgers but this is delicious. Everything goes so well together."She normally doesn't like burgers just tolerates them, but she finished the whole thing with raving reviews.And the garlic fries!! 10/10Nice MESSY experience of a cheeseburger. Each bite a little different as you struggle to hold it all together and shovel fries in your mouth

I've never had an onion burger, but now I have. The verdict: Yummo. I made the mistake of ordering a me size burger (The double) and it is freaking massive. I feel like wrapping my two hands around it was a challenge. It does make sense why it was so expensive. They are trying to compete with Five Guys on prices. The review...Clean establishment. Jumped on bathroom immediately when someone commented on the floor. Service was fast, efficient, and kind. The burger...they went with a thousand island base sauce. Bun: Great bun, BUUUT all of the grease and vegetables made The whole inside slide right out. It was the ultimate battle and it won, so I had to get a fork. Meat: Black angus for the win. Great fat content. Fantastic cook and on that bed of onions was perfect. Great seasoning. Cheese: good ol' fashioned American ON THE BUN. Problem was that the insides shot out so the cheese didn't impact the burger. If it stayed together, it would have been tremendous. Would I come back? I hate to say it, but no because of price and destruction. Would I recommend it to someone looking for a good tasting burger? Yep.

Just like a good, homemade burger! I'm so glad they make their protein style the way that I prefer: on a bed of lettuce rather than handheld. They are quite generous with the toppings & fries. Very easy to share the fries, because even between 2 of us, I didn't want to finish them (and I can eat a lot).Flavors were on point!Love their sauces (ranch & spicy ketchup are great) Staff was very friendly, not just to us, but in my observation. I saw one man giving stickers to a little girl & the lady working seemed pretty charming. I love that they have tiny lollipops available for free.Whole vibe definitely felt like Southern hospitality. Great value & experience!

Duke's Old Fashion Burgers is a great spot if you're in the area. The burgers are fantastic, cooked to perfection, and packed with flavor. The service is good, with friendly staff who make you feel welcome. And don't miss out on the amazing shakes - they're the perfect complement to the meal. Highly recommend stopping by if you get the chance!

Back in San Diego for 2 days, and I had to try this place. It did not disappoint! I had the single burger, protein style, and shared an order of Spanish fries with a friend. The burger was cooked to perfection! The fries were extra crispy well done just as I had requested. The service was great as was the atmosphere. I can't wait to come back and try more burgers!
