Amazing food ... delicious flavor. Meat is not dry and does not taste old. The food came out quickly and service was outstanding. Definitely coming back. Prefer this spot other all other in Mira mesa

Had to try this hole-in-the wall taco shop. The cost of Mexican food here is quite reasonable compared to other taco shops in the area. Ordered "Big Plate" special included beef taco, bean tostada, and two rolled tacos. Overall impression, not bad, seems like a sample plate with moderate portion of food. One item that brought my attention, was the red hot sauce! This sauce has heat! BEWARE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH . Enjoy!

I found myself on Mira Mesa Blvd with some time to kill and I stumbled across Don Lucio's hungry for a breakfast burrito. I ordered the breakfast burrito with potatoes, eggs and bacon. It was huge and for less than $9 it was a deal. The green spicy avocado salsa was great and the burrito was good. I sat inside the restaurant which had old-school taqueria stalls and was comfortable. The service was friendly and I got my food in less than 10 minutes. I would definitely come back the next time I am in the area.

When looking for good Mexican food on the West Coast one doesn't need to seek a full service restaurant. Instead a taco shop like this one will do just fine. I was staying across the street at the Holiday Inn Express which made this a great grab and go meal. This is not your typical Taco Bell or Del Taco. The food cooked here is the same quality that you find at the sit down establishments. Today was a late lunch so I went with my usual, five rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese. For $9 I was stuffed. But I could have easily tried the tacos, burritos, enchiladas or torta. To drink they offer a soda fountain, bottled drinks or aqua frescas. I know that there are chain restaurants like these all over the area but this seemed family owned and operated. Nothing fancy just a few booths for dining in. Just two lights east of I-15 getting here is as easy as any other place. I know if staying at the same hotel again I will be a returning customer.

Having read through several of the previous reviews, I was anticipating better food than what might be considered "normal" Mexican takeout. Don Lucio's food was fresh and served hot, but everything seemed to take a long time with just a small hand full of patrons coming, going and eating inside amongst the somewhat dirty and old furnishings and decor. First out were the 5 rolled tacos with no frills except guacamole and a small amount of cheese sprinkled across the top. Also coming out first was an uneventful bean tostada. Nothing special there either. A good solid 10 minutes (minimum) later I was called for two quesadillas and a single, small yet tasty regular beef taco. Food was really nothing to write about, but I had to leave a review. There is no bathroom for patrons inside and there is no salsa bar. I didn't inquire about hot carrots and the salsas were just 'OK'. The portions were not as large or great as some of the other reviews claim; however once ordering, we quickly realized the warm hospitality and friendliness of the staff. This is very much a hole-in-the-wall taco shop. Small and off the beaten path, but easy to find when exiting the freeway. Similar Mexican takeout experience as most all others in Southern California, just without the drive through. Dicks

I've been to this place a few times and the food is decent. Today I was looking forward to trying a Carnitas taco and I went there at 2:51 PM and they had a sign on the door that said be back at 3:30. There was a lady inside who saw when I parked in front of the store, saw me and smiled, and then sat down, and that is when I saw the sign on the door. I think the business owner should secure his business and fire whoever is in charge. If this was the owners idea, then this place should be boycotted by the entire community. I will never eat there again. Never felt so insulted in my life.

I'm so disappointed that my favorite taco shop is not the same anymore, the beans were a little different and you can tell by the color too. The carne asada was very dry and chewy, the prices are more on the higher side while the portions are still small. Nothing had flavor anymore and my favorite super spicy red sauce was just.... Not the same, it only had the spice with no flavor, the spicy green sauce was the only thing that didn't change.

I was in the area and craving a breakfast burrito. I stop Don Lucio's to satisfy that craving. The burrito was 7 bucks and some change but definitely worth it. My issue was that I waited 25 mins for the burrito! After 20 minutes of waiting, the cook comes out and asks if I'm still waiting for my burrito. I said yes and he made it in just a few minutes. Not sure what the initial wait was all about. They offered me three salsas, one of them tasted spoiled tho. Overall, just another taco shop. THREE STARS.

Service is great! Food is always out quickly. In addition the food is amazing!! I've tried quite a few things on this menu and loved it all, and I can be quite picky. It's a family owned and run business, and the food is well priced. In my opinion it is THE best Mexican place in SD!
