I've eaten more than my fair share of Mexican food, including lots in Mexico, and my two times at this place have convinced me it is not worth your money. Today I ordered hot carrots with jalapeño and a pollo asado taco. The carrots tasted ok but there was just one whole jalapeño with a large amount of very mild and soft carrots. The real disappointment was the pollo asado taco. It was basically a single corn tortilla, topped with what looked like baked or boiled chicken pieces (no color from grilling) and some guacamole sauce, which appeared to be premade from a can or something. No pico de gallo or other toppings on the sad looking taco. I asked for some pico and she said it would be $1.80 extra. It came in a very small container like a salsa cup. The ambiance was simple strip mall without much decoration. This was my last time going to this place.

Carne asada fries. This is a mess. Guacamole very salty Some reason a lot of taco shops in areas with less then 30% Hispanics they seem to try to cut corners on the food and quality Gave me the runs

Anyone remember when this spot was Carmelitas? It was there, in that window seat (that used to be a booth) at the tender age of two years, that I tried my first fish taco. I'll never understand why Carmelitas had to go, but no one that has taken over this location has been able to fill the void. Consuelos has surprised me with their carne asada burritos - they are good. Everything else has been a no. The tacos are made with only one tortilla and it gets soggy and falls apart so it's hard to eat. I've never had a taco from a taco shop that isn't made with two corn tortillas. These weren't street tacos. I paid over $5 for a fish taco, more expensive than anywhere else around, and I can't eat it without a fork. Tried to order carne asada nachos and they came with nothing but meat and cheese (??). Not standard for any San Diego taco shop - if that's their way, cool, but not what I'm looking for, and definitely not worth the price. I wanted to give this place a chance but Consuelos is NOT it. Service has been fine. Go for a carne asada burrito, nada más.

I moved from Mira Mesa to Scripps a few years ago but never stopped by here before today. My partner and I wanted lunch after studying for finals, so naturally we gravitated towards Mexican food. We walked in and there were no customers inside or at their table, so to be honest we were a little worried about the food here, but we ordered regardless.I got the carne asada burrito and my partner got the carne asada street tacos.I don't know if they switched management or something between the other reviews and us walking in, but the flavor of the carne asada was fantastic! Super juicy and flavorful in both of our orders. They were very generous with the guacamole and meat. The lady that checked us out even brought us salsas, which between the two I prefer the red.The burrito was a decent price ($9? I think?) and the three tacos were $6, so we'll definitely be back! Maybe if they recover from the reviews from years ago they could become a 24/7 taco shop and we'll definitely be back often, as we live down the street from here. We're thinking the demographic of Scripps doesn't really know how to appreciate decent Mexican food. We eat convenient Mexican food probably once a week between Cotixan, Vallartas, and Burros and Fries, and we'll be adding Consuelo's into our rotation.

Heyyyy-ohhhhhh! 100th review right here. We tripped down here to lovely San Diego from the PNW to visit family. We had an early flight out of SeaTac so when we finally got to our destination we were starving. Lucky for us Consuelo's came to the rescue. Small place in a strip mall in Scripps Ranch. It has all the stuff you would expect of a place like this. Some reviews spoke of the surly counter man but today he was quite friendly. The Carne Asada burrito was excellent with the right amount of stuff. Then we had Carne Asada fries. Holy cow were they good. Melted cheese, steak, guacamole and sour cream. Sooo good. We will be back there before the trip is over. Next trip I will branch out. Stay tuned for more San Diego yelping!!

Consuelo's was a total letdown. No public restroom, no salsa bar, no ambiance. The pictures on the wall were sparse and uneven. The seating was packed up leaving only a couple of options. The service was friendly, however that did not make up for a lack of authenticity. The salsa was provided after ordering- in very tiny portions, and it tasted like tomato juice with cayenne pepper. I do not recommend this location.

$34 for two, 2 taco plates with 2 small Horchata. The the tacos tasted pretty good but the issue is they nickel and dime you for everything else included refills at $1.75Horchata was watered down.I asked for napkins and I was handed one! Go find a hole in the wall for a much better experience.

I order a breakfast burrito. It was poorly wrapped and it was about 60% filled with food that it bent in the middle. Of that 60% it was mostly egg with a little bits of bacon. I went back to say something and was told that's there portion sizes. The cost was about $10 dollars.
