Every year for my birthday i try a new cuisine and I'm so glad I stumbled upon South African food!!!This restaurant is located on Miramar Rd, which means it's easy to pass it if you don't know it's there..With no experience in this type of food, or even the ability to pronounce some of the dishes, I was thrilled to see that there are photos all over the menu as well as on the counter at the register (you can either order at the counter or sit and be served). The server was kind and patient as we asked several questions and picked the best dishes to try. There were three of us and we got;Mild peri-peri wings: these were drenched in peri sauce, but I added a spicier version to enhance itBeef sausage sandwich with chakalaka as a side: the dish was pretty boring looking, a squished hamburger-type patty in a toasted bun.. but when you added the medium peri-peri sauce it was really good! The chakalaka was very earthy (a mixture of stewed veggies and beans), kind of like an oregano taste, but I couldn't put my finger on it.. again the medium peri peri sauce hit the spotChicken Bunny Chow: a savory curry stuffed into a half loaf of white bread. This was our favorite dish of the evening. The chicken was well cooked, the curry was rich with flavor and the bread was a great addition to soak up the sauce and make it a filling meal.Overall we enjoyed the food and recommend this to everyone! The dishes don't naturally come spicy, so you can add additional spices from the self-serve sauce fridge.

My wife and I decided to venture out and try something new and local, so we headed to Bunny Chow. I'm thrilled to say that it was an excellent choice! Right from the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Christian, whose recommendations we gladly followed. We tried the Bunny Chow and the appetizer sampler, both of which were absolutely delicious. The Peri-Peri sauce was a standout--truly mouthwatering! We thoroughly enjoyed the unique flavors of South African cuisine and are excited to share this gem with our friends. Already looking forward to our next visit to try more dishes that we couldn't fit in tonight. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to taste authentic South African food! Thanks Christian for your cheerful service.

Came by on accident but was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was! The Peri Peri chicken was a popular item that we decided to grab and highly recommend it to everyone. The Boerewors is definitely interesting but not for my palate though other who like a more chewy and gamey meat experience may enjoy it more. As a new restaurant I would expect their menu to change some more as they figure things out and want to come back to try more of their offerings.

I stumbled upon this place as I was walking and wanted to give it a try. I've never tried South African food so I was excited. It's right on El Cajon so limited parking on that street but plenty in the neighborhood. When you walk in, it's super cozy vibes and very cute. Service wasn't the best, very slow and server not attentive. I wanted to really like it, but wasn't impressed by the food or service we received. I wouldn't come back here again. Food review: Naan and curry: (3/5) We ordered chicken curry and the naan. Naan seemed overcooked and we barely got any chicken in the curry. For the price, you don't get a lot. Roasted potatoes: (4/5) These were the best thing that we ordered, but still seemed under seasoned. Bc sampler: (3/5) Glad we got this as it came with a nice combo of everything. The steak sandwich was the best part of the sampler. The chicken wings had absolutely no flavor. The curry wasn't flavorful, we actually didn't end up eating it. The kebab plate: (3/5) First off, the kebabs were tiny. They weren't the best flavor. We didn't enjoy these at all. We had to use lots of sauce for them. JBay Honey: (3/5) The beverage was OK. The mint overpowered the flavor for me. Overall, pretty good drink but wouldn't order again.

Came in here to try something new and it did not disappoint. We walked from our home because of the parking . We were greeted right away. Our waitress reviewed the menu with us and gave suggestions. From there we choose the wine flights (red/white) and had the Mixed Grill for two. It came with lamb chops, short ribs, sirloin steak with Peri Peri sauce (sooo good), grilled shrimp, sausage, roasted potatoes(could have chose rice), and veggies. everything was cooked deliciously and they even have a refrigerator full of all sauces you can try.... To finish we had a malva pudding which was an apricot sweet bread with a custard top... omg yummy...The ambience is very organic and I believe that if the restaurant put some extra money into the interior this could be a nice date night restaurant because the food is at that level. We will be back .

The opening day for this place popped up on my timeline so many times organically that I knew I had to try this place. I recently started doing a food map to encourage pushing to new places. As a foodie I thought that would be a fun challenge, as I have tried a lot of places. I had literally just thought about when would I try South African food and I guess today is the day. This review is based on the opening day, with their unlimited buffet and mimosas. The bright colored exterior stood out while driving up. This is a street parking advisory, just be aware they don't have parking. Walked up and the waitress was happy to help us. Originally we were gonna try to do ala carte but decided to do the buffet. The buffet allowed me to try several options and not have to commit to anything. I am hoping the buffet becomes a regular special event. Walked up and served myself. I could not even pretend I remember the proper name for all the options. The yellow rice was good and really enjoyed the lamb curry. I liked the chicken thigh that they served and some "coleslaw" salad was actually really good. Went and helped myself to a mimosa. On the second pass to the serving area I saw a little sign that said ask about the Boerewors. I asked and they explained it was a sausage that they like to cook fresh. Ordered it and continued serving myself. Eventually the Boerewors was brought out and served. It was really good and I ate through my limits. I will be back for the lamb at 5.çççç76

I love the location of this spot. There are so many great things in the area, and this is a great little addition. Parking might be limited, but worth it.We ordered a few different dishes and they were all very good. I thought the flavor of a couple of them was great, but not in the top best African food I've ever had which is why I am giving it four-stars. Definitely worth a visit.

A great date night spot for us when we wanted to try something new. The appetizer platter / sampler was the perfect amount of food for us; the flavors were delicious. My favorite was the variety of sauces, the flavorful rice, and the meatballs. The rating is one star off because the sausage and shrimp tasted undercooked. We ate them but the texture tasted chewy and raw. The service was also very friendly, but a little delayed; despite how small this place is, it was a little difficult to catch a server when we needed them.

I went for a late lunch with my brother on a Saturday; he lives in the area and had been wanting to check it out. We were warmly welcomed and given a rundown of their menu. We both enjoyed the food, and I would happily come back the next time I'm in the area.

Ordered online with total of 70$ after a 12$ tip just to drive from north county to this El Cajon location and find out they have been closed all day. How can a business allow this to happen. Waste of my time and money. More upset about the time wasted because my girlfriend and I were excited to have a nice dinner after a long day of work. Friday July 19 and it clearly states they are open on all platforms. Then for the website to accept orders and give us a real pick up time is even more ridiculous.
