Sauces for the Pu Pu. Sweet and Sour was my favorite, the duck sauce was alright, but the hot mustard wasn't it for me.

Steak tip sub
Sando of the month-Roasted Pork and Broccoli Rabe...loved the extra sharp provolone.
Onion rings- tasty but greasy
For some reason they didn't put sauce on it this time. Still an incredible sandwich. Pricey, but delicious.

The tempura chicken from the Pu Pu platter was one of my favorites.
sandwiches, food
Come to me!
2nd best sandwich is the beef dip. I added giardiniera for $0.50. The provolone is strong with this one. The giard isn't too spicy.

Out of this world! We took a nearly hour round trip detour to try this place while visiting from Utah on a tip from a friend. Got the Super beef to share because it's big, it was so tender and good we ended up going right back to the counter for another. Would be worth it for double the price.

Just ordered food here to go around 2:30 on a Friday. Had to wait, but it was well worth it. Roast beef sandwich was amazing, and the BBQ sauce and horseradish were perfect complements. Onion bun - chef's kiss. Got a whole bag of onion rings for just under $12. Well worth. It ate so many and barely put a dent in the bag. Shared with 2 other people, and we still have plenty left. Not only was it a healthy (ha) amount, but even better, they were probably the best tasting onion rings I've ever had. No need for sauce. The seasoning was fantastic and addicting. Just top notch good tasting food. Hit this place up when you're in the area. You will not be disappointed.Edit: FYI, there is no inside seating. There's some tables outside that appear to share space with the pizza place next door. Just mentioning so you can plan accordingly.

This is an unassuming sandwich that initially makes you wonder if it was worth $15+...but 100% delicious and worth it. The super beef lives up to its name and is stacked with tender beef--chef's kiss. I am not a barbecue sauce fan but the slight smokiness that it adds makes a world of a difference. This one is definitely on my top SD sandwich list now. The store is a bit hard to find and is tucked in one of the brick buildings off of the main PB strip, so keep your eyes peeled. There's not really any space inside to eat, so we took our sandwich home and it held up well for the 15 minutes we spent driving back. Service is fast, efficient, and friendly. I would call in your order and pick it up.

Forget about Arby's this is the best roast beef sandwich I have had in a long time. Thinly sliced rare cooked roast beef piledhome on a soft bun. The onion rings are exceptional. The sauce choices are the perfect compliment. Big Jim's = amazing roast beef!

Just when you think it can't get any better! The SUPER BEEF is one of, if not THE BEST sandwich in town. I'll put it up against any sandwich around. (I recommend you eat here, but for take-out ask for the sauce on the side.)Park on Felspar West of Fanuel, near the Sprouts is perfect for FREE parking.Grab a best friend, or significant other, get 2 SUPER BEEFs (regular beefs for small appetites) and a half order of onion rings, grab a seat outside and indulge! Sorry no inside seating. You'll spend about $40, but it'll be the tastiest $40 you'll spend all week--worth every penny! The French dip is also a killer, killer sandwich. Their au jus is some of the best sando au jus around, and their provolone is bangin'; it's funky in the best way possible.Don't be a fool, and don't just drool, get on down to Big Jim's and tell him that Shay sent you. Oh yeah! Thanks Big Jim, Mrs., and crew!

The last time we were at Big Jim's New England Roast Beef & Sub's was about 4 months ago. Happy to report that Big Jim's did not disappoint in fact, the sandwich we ordered tasted even BETTER than the first time!!This restaurant really lives up to its name and it's every bit as good as some of my favorite New England roast beef sandwich shops I had when I lived in New England.I recommend trying the "Super Beef,"it's an 8"oz Roast Beef sandwich with James River BBQ sauce, Mayo, white American cheese on a buttered & grilled caramelized onion bun. The sandwich has a generous amount of beef you'll enjoy every bite it's a bit messy, but finger licking good!!The staff is very friendly but there's only outdoor seating. The restaurant is not far from Pacific Beach Pier.Give it a try!Happy Yelping :)

Truly legit east coast food vibes! The beef is sooo tender and flavorful! The onion rings are the epitome of east coast. Light crisp breading that stays or falls off the ring and you pick up with a pinch to dip into the delicious mustard. About the rings do not order the full order unless there is four people or better!

Stopped by to try their roast beef sandwich and was pleasantly impressed. Initially it was difficult to find because the shop is recessed back from the other storefront businesses. I tried the junior but it was a pretty good sized sandwich. Thin sliced prime roast beef with (and you must get it) east coast barbecue sauce smothered making the sandwich superbly delicious. Top quality. Service was quick, informative, and friendly, it's more to-go style but they have seating outdoor street side. Casual neighborhood place.

There are always restaurants opening and closing in Pacific Beach. Big Jim's Roast Beef seems to be the most interesting new restaurant so I gave them a try.I ordered a full order of onion rings. That was a big mistake. The onion rings were very greasy and saturated the paper bag they came in. It was too cold to eat outside so I tried eating in the car but that was another mistake as greasy batter started flying. I loved the thin crunchy batter which was heavily seasoned and delicious. These are the best tasting onion rings I've had in a long time. Next time I'd get a half order or less as this was enough food for 3 people.Roast beef sub came on a sub roll. I liked the mild flavor and the sesame seeds added a nice flavor. Lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp. Roast beef was tender and juicy. Very good tasting sub.2nd visit I ordered a steak sub. I liked the mild flavor of the sub roll and the lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp. Steak was tender and juicy. Loved the beef flavor which had a bit of sweetness to it from the marinade and there was a nice flavor from being grilled. Excellent beef to bread ratio. Great tasting steak sub.Employees were nice and got my order out quick. I'll make sure I'm starving next time so I can order half onion rings and a steak sub!

I ordered the Super Beef for $14.56 it was packed, heavy and meaty. I expected it to be a hot roast beef sub, but was surprised to find that the meat was cold while the sauce was warm. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be?The onion rings were crispy and golden, but very oily. We were given a huge portion for a half order. A few of them were battered together and stuck to each other resembling a blooming onion. Upon entering the door you will be greeted by the smell of acetone and nail polish from the nail salon next door then you will start to smell a hint of food cooking from the restaurant. The crew behind the counter was very nice and provided friendly service. I will give this place another try and maybe order items from the hot sub.
