Why 4 stars? Because it was just a tick off from hitting the spot we were looking for. --- --- ---When we lived in Tampa, there was a nice, sit-down Chinese restaurant called Yummy House. True to its name, it was very yummy. To-date, it was probably my all-time favorite Chinese restaurant, in terms of its consistency and quality. We would visit several times a year and it was always the exact same - awesome.Since moving to the North Houston burbs, we have been on the hunt for Yummy House West. Unfortunately, we have not even come close to finding it. I recently discovered Red Phoenix and was very optimistic that it would fill the long-awaited hole in my heart/stomach. After our visit, I can say that it's definitely not Yummy House, but it is the closest thing we've found. So, that's kind of good, right? We started off with the shrimp toast and wonton soup. The soup was pretty standard (is there really ever a variance in wonton soup?) But I really loved the shrimp toast. I ordered it because it was an oft-mentioned highlight on Yelp and I'm glad I did. I loved the soft center and really crispy edges, as well as the shrimp flavor. I ordered Mongolian Beef with a side of Lo Mein. I liked both of these, but was disappointed that both were much closer to room temperature than what you would consider "hot." The fried rice that my wife and I shared came out last, and it had steam on it. It was also really enjoyable, but I wish my other plates were just as hot. My wife has the sweet and sour pork, which I thought was just okay. I felt like the fried breading was a bit cheap and generic. It was the exact same kind used on our son's chicken nuggets kids meal. So with all of that being said, I'm rounding up on 3.5 stars because I did appreciate the experience overall and I assume the food temperature can be chalked up to the kitchen having a rough night with timing, more than it being a negative reflection of the business overall.

I ordered last Friday night from this location. My bill was $92 for some soup, rice and ribs. When he told me the total I almost fell out; this is why people cook at home. I wont be back.

Classic Chinese with a solid lunch menu, this is good eating. The lunch deals are particularly good including spring roll and a choice of soup. The Mongolian beef was particularly good and not spicy. The hot and sour soup had a different viscosity that bordered on congealed but was rich and resplendent with mushrooms.

Since moving to Texas 10 years ago, I have found only one Chinese restaurant that I would recommend. Now there are two. We picked this place by chance driving home to Katy from Plano. The place had a nice decor. Instead of some god awful music from a guzheng in the background, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata on piano was softly being piped in.We ordered the spring rolls. These were good, really good. Lots of flavor, hand made (not frozen from a box), and freshly cooked. Two sauces came with the order, again made in the restaurant. The duck sauce was sweet and tasty. A nice change from other places that open a can of the sweet and sour sauce they pour over your chicken/pork/shrimp. There was also some Chinese mustard. This was nasty. I told the owner and he also did not like Chinese mustard, but he had customers who loved it.I ordered a spicy beef in orange sauce. It tasted like the standard orange chicken sauce, which was good. The meat was a bit tough but tasty. My son ordered Kung Po chicken. It was also very good.I did not see egg drop soup on the menu so no comment there like I usually do with Chinese restaurants.Overall, the food was good. I wish the portions were larger. It is unlikely I'll go back because I was just passing through. But I am glad we tried this place.

Tried this restaurant and was very disappointed. I went there for a weekday lunch. Food was very bland, sauces were very artificial, fried rice had no flavor and was very dry. I ordered the Crispy chicken (Hunan style), the red sauce was truly overpowering and all over my chicken while the inside of the chicken was dry and hard. It almost felt like the egg soup and the sauces were made from a powder. Sorry, but I am not going back there, probably ever. Service was prompt, and available but I can't justify eating there again.

I go to Red Phoenix for dinner and lunch and thoroughly enjoy it every time. The food is great and the ambiance is a throwback to the way things used to be before the all you can eat Chinese buffet!

I've been coming to this place for a few years now and my suggestion is simple: if you want good appetizers/dumplings/soups DO NOT COME. The wonton soup alone should get this place 1 star BUT the main courses are really good. I come for main dishes and tolerate the other stuff. Nice people, good main dishes, just avoid the soups and things like the "fried wonton" appetizer.

I really enjoyed the interior of this restaurant as well as the service. The tables were very clean neat and tidy, the colors were mostly gold and red and the cushioning was very comfortable. They had a bar area where you could order alcoholic beverages as pairings. The menu was very wide and consisted of a variety of American Chinese dishes. The food wasn't too heavy on the flavor profiles so if you have allergies, this place is great as they don't add a bunch of spices and flavors to their food. I gave them 3 stars because I enjoy flavors more so than anything when I go out to new restaurants and this restaurant seems to focus on the quantity of food and not so much the flavor. Me and my friend ordered the beef fried rice and vegetable Lo Mein. It's served family style so it would enough for a family of four to each have a portion. Plenty of vegetables, noodles and rice.

The food is ok. Really saucy. The restaurant is very dark inside. The shrimp lomein was good but needed more noodles. The string beans could have used a lighter sauce instead it had a dark thick sauce that didn't taste good. The Mongolian beef was also coated in thick sauce. The service was good. The waiter was polite and the restaurant manager came by to check on things. I'm still hunting for a good, more authentic Chinese Restaurant in the Woodlands. Unfortunately this one isn't exactly what I was hoping for.
