What an unexpected pleasure to find Ray's for lunch today! It's a unique combination of tea house, artisan coffee, and handmade dumplings and delicious dishes. The food is all handmade to order. Yes it comes out from the kitchen piecemeal as it's ready. But every bite was delicious. Even the basics like hot & sour soup were the tastiest I've ever had. It's very small, the family who run and staff it are friendly, passionate, and have high standards. Excellent and unique experience!

Cozy and charming cafe/diner that serves creative coffee and tea and delicious, comfort Taiwanese cuisine. My boyfriend and I stopped by for brunch after seeing such great reviews on both Yelp and Google. We ordered the house special soup and were pleasantly surprised with how much veggies and various meats were provided. The broth was so soothing, especially on a cold day. The dish itself made me feel so cared for, as if it was made by my parents. We also ordered an iced coconut matcha latte. The matcha was strong and the drink itself was not too sweet, a perfect drink! Id love to come back to try their Taiwanese beef noodle soup and other drinks. Unfortunately, I didn't realize they were known for their siphon coffee. I wish I got to try that. Heads up, this is not a WFH/study cafe. They have signs to not use your laptop.

I desperately wish I could give the food specifically a million stars. It was made fresh with love, authenticity, and complimentary flavors. It was the perfect meal if you have a cold or are cold. You can see newsprint around the store of the awards several meals have gained because it is just that good. I would say it is in the pricier side, but the quality is unmatched. I mention a million stars for the food specifically, because the older woman who served us was such a sweetie pie, but I don't know if it is her son, who will completely run all the customers away, His mannerisms is off-putting, and make you uncomfortable. I guess there's a school bus stop in front of the restaurant and kid missed it and asked if the bus came, and the guy completely yelled and cussed the kid away. My boyfriend also went up to go look at how the drink was made (after the older woman said excitedly it was fine) to go and sit down and wait for the coffee and a rude tone. I see several other reviews mention a bad temper man it might be the same guy. The food is 100% worth, and i love the small mom/pop shop, family business style, but would be amazing if you can avoid the guy.

Cute small family-owned restaurant. The menu offers a good mix of options and we came mainly for the beef soup. This was super flavorful with big chunks of meat-definitely add the chili oil provided. Also went with chow fun: good size portion and the noodles were a lovely texture but the flavor was a bit lacking- recommend asking for more chili oil to add to this dish.Did not realize before coming but definitely agree with the other reviews that the dishes are all outrageously expensive. We would've probably considered adding dumplings but for Chinatown could not stomach the price for dumplings. Also would've considered getting coffee or tea but the minimum price was $10 which, again for the area, we couldn't do. This is the main reason for the 3/5 stars and probably wouldn't need to come back.

Enjoyed our lunch at Ray's Café & Teahouse. As the dining room is small, with 2 or 4 tops, suggest coming right at open (11:30AM) if you've more than 4 in your party, otherwise expect a bit of a wait (even for a 2-top). Service is efficient with no frills. The spyhon cold brew coffee was tasty, though the "toasted marshmallow" didn't have much of a marshmallow flavor, especially with a splash of cream.Food comes out as it's ready, which means we received our homemade Taiwanese-style beef noodle soup before our handmade dumpling sampler (2 each of vegetarian, pork, pork and chives, and potato). The soup was dark and flavorful--such tender beef! Ours had linguini noodles--I would've liked a rice noodle for the chew. Our favorite dumpling was the pork and chives...such a nice crispy bottom...though they were all folded and cooked beautifully. (The potato was similar to a samosa.)Overall delicious, if a bit pricey. It was nice to see a wide variety of diners, from locals to tourists to those in from the suburbs.

Went to Rays and was pleased overall. It's a very small space with only a few tables, so you may have to wait or come back a different time. Food and drink were very good. The prices are a bit high comparatively to others in the immediate area, but it is good quality nonetheless. Their drinks are expertly made, and tasted delicious. They also sell assorted pastries by the front. Thanks

A charming place to stop by.It's hard to find a place serving good food, especially taiwanese food while also serving great coffee. I came in pretty early around 10 AM so while I saw the signs of no phones/computers there were few here so they didn't seem to care otherwiseThe older woman who served me was great, I ended up ordering the taiwanese beef noodle soup and an iced siphon coffee (the japanese charcoal one)When the food came out you can tell they put a lot of care into it. She explained that it was her own recipe that's been cooking for three days, the dish also came with a side of lightly sautéed pickled mustard greens and homemade chili oil.I loved that it looked and tasted just like a dish you would have at home, the broth is very flavorful and really doesn't need any of the sides. Normally restaurants will give just a few pieces of meat and maybe some veggies. This came full of tender beef and plenty of veggies. The pickled mustard greens had a nice flavor that helped to cut through the richness. The chili oil is spicy spicy, good though! Only thing I would say is that the bokchoy and noodles were slightly softer than I would have liked, but could just be a personal preferenceThe siphon coffee was also great and exactly what I needed. It came with a macaron as well which was appreciated. The coffee wasn't too acidic, I haven't had this type of charcoal roasted beans before, but personally couldn't pick up any specific notes. Overall would recommend coming here, wish I lived in the area or was staying longer to try their other dishes as well

I've been going to Ray's Cafe for about 30 years now and it's my favorite coffee house hands down . Their single origin coffees are the best and they make a cold brew better than anywhere . Would highly recommend the homemade dumplings also

Had a great meal but terrible service. I paid $16 for fried noodles plus $8 for an iced tea. The waiter didn't come back once after taking the food and putting it down. Never gave water or any basic restaurant conveniences. The kid that worked in the restaurant came around much more than the elderly female waitress. At the end of my meal I didn't tip, as with the lack of service and overpriced iced tea which tasted watered down it didn't seem necessary. I wasn't satisfied with my service. The waitress after I paid started yelling at me for not tipping and tried saying it was required whenever you sat in a restaurant. She then started insulting me and saying that I "needed to do something" to pay her a tip. I said if tripping wasn't optional at their establishment they should charge a gratuity. And she just kept saying more insults towards me while the guy behind the counter tried saying it was fine and to let me go. I left and won't be back. Know if you eat here you'll be verbally berated and constantly insulted if you don't tip someone who didn't do a good job of service.

I'd seen the reviews for years but never had a chance to visit. I felt like I was eating in my mother-in-law's kitchen. The coffee selection was global. The high mountain tea from Taiwan was exceptional. It's not cheap but there is a reason it costs what it does--no other tea matches it for taste and quality. The food was home-style Taiwanese--a wonderful lunch. My only regret is they are not open for dinner. Super kind and friendly service and food came up fast.
