Ramen Umai

Happen to be around the university area and was craving some ramen. There's some really good ramen where I'm from, so my expectations are high. Came right at opening and there were many tables. Service and food came fast. The ramen was okay. Noodles were chewy, soup was ite, toppings were okay and the chasiu was dry. Not on my top tier of noodles and didnt really satisy my ramen itch. Cannot recommend this ramen.

I came back with friends recently and although the service was excellent, just as it was last time, I found the flavor of the food wasn't as good. I came for dinner and it was not very busy. We ordered the shrimp tempura udon and the gyudon. The shrimp tempuras were very burnt, hard to eat, and not very pleasant. The broth was ok, but warm, and not hot. The gyudon also needed more flavor. The portion sizes were again excellent, as last time, but the overall experience was inconsistent with my last visit. Still, Ramen Umai is very affordable relative to the portion sizes and I would likely give it one more chance.

Unfortunately, the ramen tasted nothing like ramen to me.Got the Garlic Mayu Ramen with a Tonkotsu base and was disappointed with the broth completely. It wasn't rich or creamy and tasted almost like a cloudy vegetable broth. The chashu was cubed and dry, not sliced how I expected. The Spicy Miso Ramen also didn't have a strong soy flavor either. The toppings and serving size was pretty generous. Surprisingly, the biggest highlight was the Chicken Karaage. Perfect? The chicken was perfectly crispy and SUPER juicy inside. Simply spiced and paired with a sriracha mayo. Made up for the whole meal. Not sure if I'll return for the ramen, maybe for the apps though. The service was a bit slow and unattentive at lunch hours, though the restaurant aesthetics were nice and casual. Need to amp up their ramen quality amongst the competition in UCity.

This was my second time getting the spicy miso broth ramen from here and it was delicious both times. I love the flavor and the heat level isn't too bad. The meat is always great quality and they never skimp you out on toppings! Service is quick as well.

Came here after seeing the line for Terakawa was really long and knew this place had just opened up where Chix & Chix and Winterfell used to be. The ramen flavor was good but I wish both of our broths weren't lukewarm--that was a bit off putting for me. The jammy egg was well done. The service was good, and there's a lot of seating.

A nice casual ramen place for a university student. I liked that the ramen wasn't too salty. The prices are decent and the tempura appetizer was good. Overall solid, great for a casual meal, nothing outstanding special, but would recommend to other students.

Can't wait to come back here. Loved the food, service, and vibe. From the fancy quality chopsticks, to the classy cups and plates. This spot didn't disappoint. Their standard tonkatsu ramen hit perfectly. The chashu was on point and so was the seasoned soft boiled eggThe chicken karage was like the best chicken nuggets I've ever had. The chashu don was seasoned with the yummiest sweet barbecue-like sauce. Glad the nice folks here have opened up shop.

Service is attentive; food is great! The broth is so comforting. Definitely come back for more! Worth the price!!

BEST RAMEN IN THE CITY! Might be better than my favorite place in New York even. The broth is so rich and flavorful yet not overly salty. Chashu just melts in your mouth and the soft boiled egg is simply perfection.The decor reminds me of a ramen shop I've been to in Tokyo. Super authentic. Their logo actually spells out "umai" in Japanese calligraphy which is a really cool touch.I'm really impressed and will definitely be back. The service was quick and presentation of the ramen is amazing too. Such a great place you gotta come try it, or actually don't... so it won't get too crowded next time I come by lol

Had the spicy miso 1 pounder ramen. The soup was lukewarm and had no flavor. I asked for chewy noodles and it was completely soggy when I got it. The weird part was the soup was not hot yet the noodles were extremely hot.Would not eat here again.
