For food trucks, Portable Portugy does an excellent job! I caught them at Trophy Maywood today after getting a copy of the menu from Chef Shawn. They offer a pretty good range of snacks, sandwiches, fries and sweets in the $6 to $20 range. I ordered up a littleneck clams starter, tosta mista, queijo fritters. You get a buzzer and it took about 10 minutes for my food. The food is served in generous portions, the highlight for me was the tosta mista, a panini layered with ham, cheese, and fig jam, delish. Overall I was pretty happy with my meal and can't way to try out their pasteles de nata for a future visit. I'm pretty impressed with what they are offering as a food truck and look forward to visit #2!

Ahhhh so, so delicious! I'm from Rhode Island and I'm Portuguese. I grew up eating Portuguese food constantly and in RI there are Portuguese supermarkets, restaurants, and bakeries. Basically it's extremely easy to find Portuguese food there. In NC, not so much! When I saw the Portable Portugy on social I couldn't believe it!! I was finally able to try him out and it 100% did not disappoint. If you've never had Portuguese food before I'd describe it as flavorful, not too spicy, and just, well, delicious. We love a fried egg on meat and a popo sec (basically a tasty, tasty roll). I'll start by saying don't sleep on the desserts here. Portuguese desserts aren't as fancy as say French patisserie, but they are just as delicious. There was an ordering miscommunication with my pasteis de nata and I didn't get it. I will certainly try again next time-- it's basically a small flaky pastry tart with custard. This truck usually has malasadas on Sundays. ORDER ONE! It's kind of like fried dough, but softer, and way, way better! You can thank me later. Don't skip the Sumol either, they are basically fruit sodas, but way better than any American version I've had. For meals I went with the Prego no pao and Portugy bifana, both were excellent. They were both flavorful and you could tell they were 100% made to order. It does take a hot minute to get your food, but that is because they are making everything from scratch, which I appreciate. They do change their menu up weekly and he mentioned he was heading to Massachusetts soon to pick up clams to do some clam dishes. I know we live in a coastal state, but New England shellfish reigns supreme. They generally list where they'll be on their Instagram page! Can't wait to head over again!

Their piri piri chicken is good! It's spicy, but not overwhelmingly so, and it's tender and tasty. I got it on a sandwich that also included a nice-quality soft roll and very fresh lettuce, tomato and onion (I skipped the mayo). The clam cakes (a.k.a. fritters) were very crisp and loaded with chopped clams. They were a little on the salty side for me, but I know that's the way clams are. The Portable Portugy is at Brueprint in Apex a few Thursdays a month, but we found them at Vicious Fishes, also in Apex, yesterday. They had a great, social-distancing set up, which included a table in front of the truck with hand sanitizer and with menus spread out so we didn't have to touch them. Our food was ready in ten minutes, which is quite fast, and the service was super friendly. We need to check them out again soon!

Food Truck Time: The Portable Portugy at TapLine GrowlerI was excited to try this food truck. I ordered the bifana with a side of tater tots. The service was friendly and the food was good. My only complaint was that the Portuguese roll got very soggy fast so that made it difficult to eat.

We live down the street from Vicious Fishes and saw this truck parked there multiple times. Decided to try it today and it was amazing. We tried both of their chicken sandwiches. The piri piri chicken, truffle Parmesan fries, pickles and the spicy chicken sandwich with ghost peppers and candied jalapeños. Everything was made fresh. The rolls were so good, chicken was tender and cooked to perfection. The fries were expensive, but worth it.

They came to Holly Springs on a Friday which was much appreciated during CoronaFest 2020. I got a Bifana sandwich with Piri Piri Chicken & Fries. The sandwich was very good but I kind of wish it had more of the insides... 50-100% more. Tasty sauces! The chicken was AMAZING! Generous portion (three big strips) and the sauce was delicious, spicy (I love spice) but not super spicy (at least not to me!). The fries were also good but I think the Chicken was the highlight. I don't think their Piri Piri Chicken sandwich was on the menu today but I would love that and hope the amount of chicken was the same. I've had piri piri chicken before but I can't say enough about the sauce from these guys.I found no fault with the chicken until the end when I thought it was more salty than it needed to be.I might have been lucky to live in walking distance to where the truck was. I brought it home and was able to use a fork with the chicken. That would have been very messy if I was just using my hands. At first I wasn't sure about the chicken and fries but it was a great combination, especially with the sandwich. I probably would have been wanting more if it was only the sandwich and fries.I'm not a fan of the styrofoam containers but that can be easily changed.

I was fortunate to come across this food truck yesterday at a brewery. Got the chicken sandwich and it was outstanding. Not just a little piece of chicken in there, a real slab of chicken that you could share if you wanted to. Great flavor. I also tried the pastry for dessert and that did not disappoint. Will be keeping my eyes open for this one again.

Everything on this truck is fresh and made fresh. Nothing is frozen. The food while authentic Portuguese also includes twists from the owners background in the northeast. I have at this point eaten almost everything on the regular menu and it is all outstanding. I told the owner and I will tell you all, as a first generation Portuguese American, the best compliment I can give is the food reminds me of my mother's cooking.
